Addazio's pitch to Lowrie

As I mentioned, it appears like we are targeting a 3rd QB for this class. I also suspected that one or two of our current QB commits might look elsewhere. It seems like Mackay Lowrie is now firmly on board with Addazio (nice job by the growing BC 247 site). This is how Lowrie described Addazio's plan for QBs:
"We talked about the offense quite a bit," said Lowrie. "We talked about what he's looking for in a quarterback and how he wants a guy that can move around in the pocket, do some QB-read stuff."

That doesn't come out and say we need dual-threat QBs, but the read and mobility talk do indicate more of a run-based offense. I just hope we are not rigid in the first few seasons. You can adapt an offense season to season yet still keep the same core plays and philosophy. What we need is some efficiency, scoring and excitement.

Hope we are not headed to becoming a bad version of Georgia Tech. Talk about very boring.

Note to Addazio: BC is exciting when we pass. See Fluite, Doug; Ryan, Matt; Foley, Glenn etc.

Also, fun and exciting to score and win.

I think BC is most exciting when we win games. Not saying Addazio/Day will with an option offense... but if we are winning 8-9 games instead of 2... at this point I could care less how it gets done.

Being from St. Louis, I am interested in any comments about Christian Suntrup (rsfr #13 of Kurt Warner)Chaminade Prep. He is a mobile qb who was highly recruited by Nebraska.

i'm with Hario -- if we win I really don't care about the means. if we become a run-heavy team that controls the clock and we are winning, are people really going to complain that we aren't producing Glenn Foley anymore? come on.

even though some continue to allege Day is a "Spaz" guy, Day was hired to be on Jags/Logans staff and is, according to the players who played on those teams when Logan was OC and Day was WR, Day is a "Logan" guy who will run a similar offense. those offenses had that zone-read all day, but they still passed. the 08 team with Crane and Davis at QB had 448 pass attempts to 518 rushes, so it was a balanced attack.

just win baby.

A ball control, run-between-the-hash-marks offense is 1950's football. Let's bring back the Wing-T formation!

Yes, it is boring. very. And, it is innective at winning football games. It is not an offense capable of getting quick scores, and an offense that is ineffective in drawing in recuits.

However, we do need balance to pass. If we are running enough to avoid being one-dimensional like last year, then Hurrah!

EL MIZ, are you serious about DAY? Didn't you read my prior posts on this?? I thought i set you straight about this already.

Let me try again: Day sucks as a OC

Look at his performance last year as OC at Temple. One of the worst performacmes by any OC in the UNITED STATES.

mod 34B - do you not get enough sleep every night? is there a reason why you are eternally grumpy?

i did read your previous posts and didn't find them convincing. i doubt the other fine readers of ATL would enjoy another tit-for-tat on who the real Ryan Day is. we'll see come September.

regardless, i wasn't even addressing whether or not Day would be a "good OC" -- i was drawing an inference from who he had coached under to try to conclude what the offense would be like. isn't that what this post was about -- Addazio's pitch to Lowrie and what sort of offense it would be. can you follow that train of logic?

he was "one of the worst OCs in the entire UNITED STATES"???? wow, thanks for sharing that! are there Offensive Coordinators outside of the United States? i think you could've just said "he was one of the worst" and your point would be made.

that said, it would be completely irrelevant to the discussion at hand. you don't like Day, congratulations. try to focus on the discussion instead of just typing in all caps about how bad Day is as a OC.

MIZ, I think you are taking my comment a little too seriously.

MIZ, there are offensive coordinators in Canada. Right? No? eh?

I bet DAY is better than some of the Canandian OCs. Yeah. Eh. right.

While you 2 guys above are having a p---ing match, & seem to know so much...did it ever cross your mind to answer a legitimate question posed above about QB Christian Suntrup. Many others are probably interested as well, since he was considered an excellent recruit 2 years ago...& was redshirted last year.

Joe, no one really knows if Suntrup is good or not. He was not on the depth chart this year in any game - not a positive. He's never played in a game and apparently threw only a couple of passes in Spring game.

It is a mystery.

m34b, any possibility that moving from the MAC to the BE could have had a major effect on the performance of the Temple offense?

From personal knowledge, I know that the players have a great deal of respect for Day. My guess is that they know more about the situation than you.

I just went back and watched Suntrup's high school highlight reel. He appears to have a strong and accurate arm, good mobility, rolls out and throws on the run very well. At least he did in high school. Hard to reconcile that with his being third or fourth on the depth chart behind one guy who's best play is the QB dive right and Shinskie. I'm not ready to throw Rettig under the bus, anyway, but it's hard to get excited about Suntrup.
