As the Heights reported, an announcement on the new coach should come within 48 hours if not earlier. Multiple people are reporting that the finalists are Notre Dame Defensive Coordinator Bob Diaco, Ball State Head Coach Pete Lembo and New Orleans Offensive Line Coach Aaron Kromer. Based on all the gossip, Diaco would have to be viewed as the front-runner.
I would be happy with Diaco. I would like the Lembo hire and defend it thoroughly. I am not onboard with Kromer. For now, I am hoping for a positive conclusion and a new start for BC football.
UPDATE: Two minutes after I posted this, NECN said Lembo is not a finalist. Stay tuned. Based on who BC has eliminated, it is looking more and more like Diaco or some left field candidate.

Sign up Diaco and get him recruiting!
I gotta say even with all the debate... this is as excited about BC football I have been since 2010
Kromer over Carmichael Jr. as a candidate doesn't make much sense to me.
For those concerned about Diaco's lack of HC experience look no further than Wisconsin's Brett Bielema. Played on defense under Hayden Fry at Iowa - check. Spent ~5 years as defensive position coach at BCS-conf team - check. Successful ~3 years as BCS-conf DC - check. Has 66% Big Ten conf. winning % and has taken Wisconsin to 3 Rose Bowls. I would take that in a heartbeat.
Agree on the Bielema parallel. Diaco would be the perfect fresh start for the program. The critiques of his handling of the press make me LOL -- Bc doesn't even get full-time coverage from the Boston media, and you literally could not be any worse than Spaziani at dealing with the press. Diaco is a HR, get it done Bates!
I would be happy with either of them, Lembo was my least favorite!
Diaco just won Broyles Award as best assistant in the county. I hope that doesn't complicate matters; e.g., raise the price...have others make offers, etc.
Wisc just lost their coach to Arkansas - let's hope Diaco has signed already.
I'd be thrilled with Diaco. But picking a coach is an inexact science. Look at Saban's years at Michigan St:
1995 6–5–1 Un-ranked
1996 6–6 Un-ranked
1997 7–5 Un-ranked
1998 6–6 Un-ranked
1999 9–2* Ranked 9th; left before Bowl Game
I'm don't know the circumstances / talent of those MichSt teams - but you can get a talented coach and get some average results.
That being said, i'm trilled Spaz is gone and hoping we catch lightning in a bottle
Ah shit
Bret Bielema to Arkansas. Shoot, that means Wisconsin will make a run at Diaco. Alvarez is a former Hawkeye and Notre Dame assistant coach. Well, it was fun for awhile to dream.
I'd be OK with Kromer. Diaco probably will go to Wisconsin. Ned says that Tom O'Brien is the third candidate. Don't believe it.
It's my fault for posting the Bielema comment an hour before the news broke. Hopefully the Badgers go for Paul Chryst instead.
No way Diaco signs on now, he would be crazy at this point!
Damn wooo pig sueys! Diaco would most likely rather step into the great situation at Wisconsin rather then step into the Spazpoo reclamation project.
I bet Doeren is kicking himself. He would have been perfect for the Badgers.
Yea I cant imagine Diaco signs up for BC without at the very least inquiring about Wisconsin if not full on just going for that job.
Bates may lose out by waiting too long on all these guys
This could get bad for Bates, should have fired Spaz mid season, we could have started the search sooner and gotten ahead of the game. I still think Kromer would do a good job. I think it is giant kick in the nuts if we turn to Lembo at this point.
The way to go on this coach search is not the way BC does it. Eight names given to the Trustees? What is that all about? If it's the AD's call let him make it. Too much delay and wasting time. Find a guy you like and go for him. It should take a few days. It's all pretty much a guessing game anyway so you do your best. Yeah, Diaco is being elevated to sainthood now that BC may not get him but he could be as bad as Spaz who was a good defensive coordinator. BC should stop procrastinating, decide on who the AD thinks is best and make him an offer he can't refuse. What's the problem?
Our only hope is if Diaco wants to get closer to his home state of New Jersey. Also, the pressure to win at Wisconsin is much more intense than at BC.
I still cannot believe BC is in the running for Golden. Can someone explain how we could put together a competitive package AND buyout his 7 year contract with Miami?
I am not worried about Diaco to Wisconsin. Barry Alvarez has his own network of "his guys." Diaco is not part of that clique.
Another plus for BC is that Wisconsin is in the same division as Ohio State and Penn State. Both programs are better than Wisconsin historically and could make it difficult for a coach to break through. I'm starting to talk myself into believing that we are a better fit for Diaco
I am waiting with "Bated" breath here. Let's go Brad, sign up Diaco.
The idea that any potential head coach would shy away from a job where the "pressure to win is intense" is just nonsense. More to the point, we don't want that guy. It just took us four years to get rid of one of them. Seriously. It's not a selling point for BC, unless they're looking to bring someone out of retirement.
Beilzma was not hired to rebuild wisconsin though.
Diaco will be a great hire but his job will be a cake walk like Beilzma's has been.
Mod, you are naive if you don't think that is a consideration. Winners want to win and if there are impediments, and OSU and Penn State are legitimate concerns, they will explore options where you can win quicker to set them up for the next job. A guy like Diaco will look like a hero if he can clean up Spaz's mess. Replacing a guy that ha been to 3 straight Rose Bowls is added pressure.
The relevance of the Arkansas hire may be the escalating salaries; i.e., the Wisconsin job paid $2.5 million per year.
The Colorado job went for $13.5 million over 5 years.
Even BC's increase to $2 million per year is going to fall far short for the "name" candidates.
Unless BB pulls a rabbit out of a hat, we are looking at an NFL coordinator-one way or the other.
The threat of OSU and PSU are going to dissuade someone from taking over at Wisconsin?? Hasn't Wisconsin lapped everyone in the conference except OSU over the last 10-15 years?
Using that line of thinking, wouldn't FSU and Clemson scare someone away from wanting the BC job? Two historically better programs.
Heard Addazio is the choice.
SI.com reporting it is in fact Addazio:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/pete_thamel/12/04/boston-college-steve-addazio/
Addazio is it. Announced
Addazio down according to thamel.
Just got the season ticket holder email from Bates:
As a valued member of our community, it is with great pleasure that I share with you first that Steve Addazio will be announced as the next Head Football Coach at Boston College this evening. A New England native, Steve joins us from Temple where he has served as head coach the past two seasons. Steve brings to the Heights a background of football success that includes two years of head coaching experience and six years on a Florida staff that won two national championships. More importantly, his value system will lead our football program in ways that will make us all proud to be Eagles.
We ask that you join the BC Community in welcoming Steve to Chestnut Hill. A press conference to formally introduce Steve is scheduled for tomorrow. You may follow all of the action on bceagles.com.
Thank you for all you do for Boston College. Go Eagles!
Sincerely,
Brad Bates
