Brad Bates will introduce Steve Addazio to the BC media and community at 3 PM today. We've seen enough of these to know how to pull one off. Here is a simple checklist. (Add any of the other staples that I might have forgotten in the comments section.)
1. Be sure to acknowledge Jerry York's awesomeness.
2. Talk about how important it is to graduate players.
3. Say that BC is your dream job and the only one you ever would have left "_______" for.
4. Talk about your passion and how you can't wait to start.
5. Thank Father Leahy

One big one you left out:
Talk about the importance of winning!
He should at least make a passing acknowledgement of the negative or doubting initial reactions and state that he hears it and that he knows it is his job to turn the doubters around by winning and winning now - not a 2 year rebuild period or any of that nonsense.
Spell out that the annual goal is to win the Atlantic Div which gets you to a chance to play for the conference championship. Win - Orange Bowl or better. Lose - who cares, at least you had a shot on the field. Somewhere in that framework a dream season will happen once in a while.
I've slept on this hire and my feelings are getting worse. Finding out its a 6 year deal makes me think the new AD got played. No reason for that AT ALL!
Welcome and good luck, but I am nowhere near being back on board as a '90 alum, a former season ticket holder/Flynn Fund donor and general fan of athletics and good decisions.
It really kills me that the institutional goal for BC as far as success has really become nothing more than bowl eligibility. I really hate that.
As I mentioned before this is a terrible hire.
I voiced my displeasure via email to development office, and they gave me a quick reply and the office is drinking the kool aid.
As for donations, don't hurt ice hockey. You can specify this and donate.
I think his strengths seem to be recruiting and motivating. His weaknesses seem to be on the schematic side, in terms of play calling, game-planning, and adjustments. Hiring smart, competent coordinators is crucial.
Ryan Day back at Offensive Coordinator? Why?
FIRE EVERYBODY
ROFL APPARENTLY KEVIN ROGERS IS BACK TOO! GREAT TO SEE ADDAZIO LEANING ON THIS NATIONWIDE NETWORK OF COACHES LIKE BATES SAID
this is absolutely awful
This is a joke, right? We're really bringing back the coaching staff that drove the program into the ground? What a punch to the nuts this past day has been. Bates doesn't know what the hell he's doing. What an awful hire.
We had a clean slate - a chance to hire a new AD and a new football coaching staff. Instead, we got Brad Bates and Spaz's coaching staff. Can't wait for those games against USC...Also, how is it that all of the "inside sources" were 100% wrong when it came to predicting finalists for both AD and Coach?

Dave Shook @DShookCSL
For perspective: Ryan Day's last 3 offenses have finished: 110, 112, and 109 in total offense among FBS teams. HIRE THAT MAN RIGHT NOW.
Wow. Ryan Day is back. Bates really is stupid.
This is getting worse by the hour. We now have all of our old, failed coaching staff back?! Why not at least keep Marten if you are going to just bring back frickin Kevin Rodgers? This sucks.

Keith Pompey @pompeysgridlock
Sources also expect defensive coordinator Chuck Heater, assistant head coach Kevin Rogers and offensive line coach Justin Frye to follow.
Chuck Heater's overall defense was #92 last year.
However, in 2011, Temple had the #11 defense.
Heater was recruiting coordinator at Florida, and at lesser schools before that. My guess Siravo is out and he's the new recruiting coordinator and DC.
also, apparently they are trying to poach some former Temple commits and have them commit to BC. 2 guys chose Temple over BC:

Chuck Heater is an old GOAT -- 60 years old. just what the kids want...
And a Michigan man... I am sure that was part of the charm offensive used to SNOW the impressionable MR. Bates:
Here is a wiki blurb on Chuck Heater
Chuck Heater (born October 10, 1952) is an American football coach and former player. He was a running back for the University of Michigan from 1972 to 1974 and finished his playing career as the fifth all time leading rusher in Michigan Wolverines football history. Heater has been an assistant football coach at ten universities since 1976. He has been affiliated with College Football Hall of Fame coaches Bo Schembechler (as a player), Earle Bruce (as an assistant at Ohio State and Colorado State), and Lou Holtz (as an assistant at Notre Dame). He has been on coaching staffs of national championship teams at Notre Dame (1988) and Florida (2006 and 2008). He is currently the defensive coordinator at Temple.
serious question: when was the last time a BCS school hired a coach coming off a 4-7 season or worse?
Chizik maybe
I doubt Chizik is getting a BCS job. Also, when's the last time a BCS school hired a coach coming off a 4-7 season or worse, and allowed him to bring multiple assistants who were previously at the school when the losing was going on? I'm going to say that's probably never happened.
holy crap..he must have read this blog before taking the podium!!!
Got all of them! 11 minutes in.
Chizik got hired by Auburn after going 3-9 and 2-10 at Iowa State
ah right, good call.
