Press Conference: check

I liked the press conference. In general they are hard to screw up, but Addizio clearly has passion. I think he will be fine and will explain later tonight. I will also share my thoughts on Brad Bates' first major search and decision.

Not super thrilled with the hire, but at least excited to hear that he has some ambition. When Spaz took over, BC had won 6 straight over Notre Dame - 6! By the end, he was giving the team "pep talks" about how playing Notre Dame was like playing a NFL team, basically implying, in front of everyone, that we had no chance. I love the change of attitude. I hope Addazio means what he says.

ATL- are you really that easily impressed? Or better question, do you really think high school kids will be dumb enough to buy that clown show? I just don't see how anyone can be enthused by this hire, particularly with the news leaking that he is bringing much of his former (and or former) staff back here. This is literally as close to a combination of TOB/Spaz that we possibly could have imagined.

What would have impressed you? Exactly what "clown show" do you mean? Share your idea of how it might have gone to impress you?

Did you interview any candidates? Were you present when bates did? Do you really know what went down with Golden and Diaco?

Truth is you probably just like to act like you have a clue.

TOB had a very dry personality and Spaz lacked emotion. Addazio is a huge upgrade and I thought the press conference was about as good as it could get. Love the excitement.

Joseph,
What would have impressed me is if he came across as being authentic. I didn't get that. I saw a guy who likes to hear the sound of his own voice. There's a difference between real enthusiasm and hamming it up. I saw the latter. Our own Chuck Amato, basically.

I posted this in the other thread, but it applies here too (thankfully, more positive people are posting).

My God, I hope you people don't have sales jobs. What a bunch of negative Nancys!

What more do you want in a press conference? He said the right things, he was pumped (unlike Spaz), he has a vision for the program. He mentioned not just ACC championships but national championships. He wants the team to be a family. He wants to get alumni and faculty involved.

Get behind this guy or get the hell out. What is the point of all the bitching anyway? Do you think Bates is going to turn around and say "Geez, Fr. Leahy, I spoke to former BC players, NFL people, college coaches but the social media crowd is just not behind this guy. I want to fire him and start the process over so all of the Twitter and blogging alumni will be on board with this." Ain't gonna happen. For better or worse, he is our guy. You had 24 hours to bitch. Now it is time to stop!

eagleboston - do you really think the coaches and players are going to read the negative comments on this blog and say - "geez, maybe we shouldn't try so hard?" Ain't gonna happen. People should say what they are thinking.

I would like to know what he is being paid. The Wisconsin to Arkansas express is being paid 3.2 mill for six years plus something like 700K in incentives. Spaz was paid a little over a mill and that was too much. Is this a "whistle stop" for Daz or is it the real deal? That is what he needs to prove and the PR has to crank it up. Love and loyalty are open to proof. He did great things at Florida. However, there is just something here that doesn't ring true.

We also need to seriously talk about our hoops team

Doornekamp,

My point was that people have had ample time to complain about the hire. But, at a certain point, the bitching is very annoying and we have reached that point.

Further, everyone on ESPN thinks this is a good hire. These are people whose job is to follow college football. What do the bloggers know that the ESPN folks have overlooked?

You're trolling us now. ESPN's "experts" are pretty famous for being wrong and terrible about every sport.

Ample time: We suffered through 4 years of Spaz and now we are looking forward to 6 years of Daz.

Its not whining to question what has happened.

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. George Santayana

I will complain until I hear an adequate explanation of how BC arrived at this point; i.e., hiring a 4-7 coach from Temple, who intends to bring back assistants who failed here under Spaz.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. A. Einstein.

I just think we should all appreciate that our new head football coach is the spitting image of Sgt. Slaughter.

Also, I have been pretty down on this selection, but you know what, reading this (I have not yet seen the actual press conference), you can't help but to feel positive. He definitely brings a much needed change in attitude if nothing else.

Call me a doubting Thomas, ut I'll believe this was a good hire when we are bowl bound this time next year.

Re: the new BC head coach's age that seems to concern a few, mainly younger, folks...well, as BC compares to #1 Notre Dame...Addazio is 53 @ Kelly is 51. Diaco is 39 & Day is 33. So the Head Coach & just one main Coordinator combined gives BC a 4 year younger differential.

Rumor has it that Temple Defensive Coordinator Justin Frye may be coming along, who is only 28 years old. Notre Dame's Offensive Coordinator, Charles Martin, is 48...an obvious difference of 20 years. So just with potentially 3 of the top Head/Coordinator coaches, there may already be a younger age difference of a whopping 24 on BC's side.

It's been stated that Addazio is a hands off Coach (unlike Spaziani), which may translate into ideal in-the-trenches relationships between the new regime and our young student athletes.

Just sayin'. Go Eagles.

When he was winning national championships at Florida he was dreaming about being the HC at Boston College? Really? That's as far as I got watching the press conference. Why he was introduced by Thomas P. O'Neill (son of Tip) is a total mystery.

I don't know how this guy or any of the other candidates would do at BC, but the BS is certainly strong in this one. I'm rooting for him anyway.

Chicagofire,

I hope we are in a bowl too. However, it might take us a couple of years to rebuild. This is a true turn-around, as opposed to a success-sustaining situation. You have a bunch of players who literally do not know how to win.

I think we have hope next season on offense, but the defense is clearly way, way below par. It might take Addazio 2 years to bring in recruits and get some depth on defense.

Joseph, your posts are old and annoying. Eagleboston, you're trying to prove your arguments by citing ESPN blogger posts?! Seriously? You're not even referring to anything written by Heather Dinich. You're referring to the other non-HD girl Adelson (or whatever her name is). That's utterly laughable.

For everyone who says "look at Florida" go to www.firesteveaddazio.com. Enough said. Game. Set. Match. Watch temple games from last year and tell me your impressed? And that's AFTER Al Golden. Terrible hire. If he hired new asst coaches I may have given him a chance. Same coaches who failed here already. When ACC folds and we get stuck in MAC you all will see the light.

Temple clobbered Army 63-32 while BC lost 34-31. Strangely, Montel scored 7 tds and rushed for 351 yds. I believe that Bates was only the agent for a deal done quite some time ago. Temple was like a "government in exile" preparing to reinstitute control (Rogers, Day). This may not be bad. Pr just has to kick in. As a Navy vet, TOB wsa brought in from Virginia to reinstill discipline after the gambling scandal. It was not necessary for him to be a giant success. He just had to "dig out of hole" and the Marine did that job. His job was also preordained. It appears that that is the way that BC operates. Those that were interviewed were only part of a sham. It's called a conspiracy and if PR can kick in, then it might be a good thing. The trust in Jags, still love him and his family, burned the U. Diaco would only use BC as a whistle stop just like Leahy in the 40s. At least Daz is bringing his Irish wife with him. What about his son the tight end at Syracuse?
