Addazio recruiting like Cortes

Legend has it that when Spanish Conquistador Hernan Cortes got to what is now Mexico, he had his ships burned. Like many historical anecdotes, I am sure there is some embellishment, but the lesson is simple: if you want full commitment, a leader needs to make sure his team has no other choice. That is sort of how I feel about Addazio's QB situation. First he landed a dual threat QB and now he has basically told our highest rated recruit Tim Boyle that the system is going to favor dual guys.

Boyle liked BC from the very beginning and has stayed true despite the terrible season under Spaz and the coaching change. I feel for him. That doesn't mean he is owed anything. Maybe Addazio is doing him a favor. He's now free to go where he is wanted.

As for what it means to BC...I hope Addazio has something in Walsh or has another ace up his sleeve. I don't know if Boyle would have been special, but he was a nice insurance policy. Now we are all in on dual threat QBs. It makes you wonder how we are going to use Rettig this season.

Sports reporting is basically fraudulent because of the need for ACCESS. You only get the party line.( coverage of BC's athletic director from 2000 to 2012) The same problem exists in business and politics. It's at it's worst when media and law enforcement combine to vilify an individual and threaten his freedom. One understands why Washington and Lincoln hated the press. Don't believe what you read in the newspapers.

Pushing Boyle out? really?? Sounds dumb. Kid really wants to be an Eagle, but now might go to Pitt. Hope he comes anyway and shows Daz what he has got on the practice field.

Sounds like BC football is going to be awful for years and really boring to watch -- like Army football.

So Brad Bates, why is it that you hired Daz? So far Daz has attracted no 'hot' recruits (none with another ACC offer, for example) and instead has lost (and pushed out) our better recruits.

oh, and Brad, why is it that you went with a 6 year deal again?

Being from St. Louis, what about Christian Suntrup, redshirt freshman qb going into year three? Maybe, he should move on as well.

Daz was the preordained pick to be BC's next football coach back in the Summer of 2012. Bates had very little, if any, say in hiring Daz. This hire appears to come from the top guy and a couple of BOT members who have the top guy's ear.

What you say makes sense of all of the irrational things that happened in the search; e.g., asking opinions of a VIP group and then ignoring them about Daz.

What more can you tell us?

Let me guess, Daz goes to Daily Mass and so do his wife and kids?

Leahy has been the one constant during the BC football plummet...

Boy, I don't know how I feel about this. BC's identity over the past 30 years has been big, hard-working lines, smash-mouth running and pocket passers. Every team is looking for dual threat QB's. How will we differentiate ourselves from others? What will be our identity? Can we be successful and can we recruit the talent necessary to run this type of offense?

Our defense is also going through a transition from bend-don't-break to a more aggressive style. I think most BC fans want this but do they realize this usually comes with frustrating, big play touchdowns when an overly aggressive team is out of position or misses a couple of tackles? I welcome this change but I realize we will get burned much more than we are used to from a BC defense.

Since the entire identity is changing, are we willing to be patient? It will take at least 2 years and more realistically 3 for Daz to get the personnel in to run these systems.

Saw Suntrup during the spring game last year. He looked small, had a knee brace and unassertive under center.

He definitel could have improved since then.

EagleBoston - Have you seen the last few years of BC Football. The bend don't break defense gave up one big play after another. I was at the WestPoint game this year and there was no bend, it was all break. I will take aggressive at this point.
