Davis final 2 and other links

With less than a week before signing day, Addazio is making a final push on some key targets. One is Florida Running Back Robert Davis. He will be in Boston this weekend. Currently he favors Memphis.

This didn't get much attention but a pipe burst in the Yawkey Complex over the weekend. The water damage was extensive, but fortunately no people or equipment will have to be moved.

BCI wrote a good piece on how BC can emulate Stanford's football success

For those wondering what sort of offense we will have, Tim Boyle's coach thinks our QBs will run 15-20 times a game.

Gerry Ward will represent BC as an "ACC Legend" at this year's ACC Tournament. Congrats to Gerry. (Does anyone else chuckle when these guys who never played in the ACC are tapped as "Legends"?)

Sometimes, you have to look at the targets being used to see how well the gun works. Robert Davis appears to be a good target because his father is involved. The kid appears to be ambitious. He backed out of Cincinnati because of a coaching change. I hope it works out for BC.

I love the piece on Stanford. I have said it over and over again, there is no basic reason why BC can't go the same route. Stanford is tough academically and is in a huge pro market. If the administration feels that it will enhance the university, then it can be done. This is true in every sport both men and women. Will it happen?

Forget emulating Stanford.

Boston College needs to regain the success IT had 5 years ago.

that pic of Boyle throwing looks an awful lot like Matt Ryan's great form... Also from quality high school, think it's a mistake to let him get away

Sorry, but I will always believe in "ever to excel".

SD is the coach. Until he fails on the field, or I have proven to be a qualified coach, I'll go along with his decisions. I love the name "boyle" (sounds like "hard boiled") but if he doesn't fit , so be it. I agree he does look good as a pocket passer,

More likely Boyle is at BC in 4 years than The dazzler. Come to BC kid. You'll make it work!

Next year will be interesting. If Dazzler's goal is a mobile QB who can run 15 times a game, BC lacks a QB who can do this.

Rettig can't run. Bordner can't run. Suntrup? Dudeck for QB??

For any species of the dual-threat, spread, zone-read, option-schmoption thing to work you need two things: a mobile, nimble OL and some speed - at least at RB and WR/TE.

Obviously our OL 2012 was horrible - probably the worst in FBS/AQ land. Maybe it was bad coaching in 2012, but how much can these guys improve by this Fall? Is Win Homer the next star BC OL? Hope so.

There is some speed at RB and WR - but it is thin.

Will Dazzler work with what he has in 2013 without forcing a spread type offense on a squad unable to do so? Or is he planning for 2014/15 and just laying a base in 2013? I am thinking next year is already written off (at least Dazz was honest with Boyle - a good sign)

By the way, it is reported that Dazz gets $1,600,000 per year for 6 years = almost $10,000,000. BC is stuck with Dazzler for at least 4 years if he sucks ....less if he is a success (can't hold him back from his "dream" job, can we??!)

Hey BC, you cheap bastards, when you have 100 juniors coming in for a Junior Day, keep the damn heat on at a reasonable level the night before so the damn pipes do not freeze and burst. That place is so damn Mickey Mouse -- it pains me to see how stupid they are.

Joseph said...

Negative, negative, negative. My guess is that SA wants to win and has at least some idea on how to do it. That does not mean that he has the talented players, but he is not stupid.

Why in God's name are you so sure that they turned the heat off? Do you know for sure that they are that dumb. Any chance that there was a malfunction of some sort.

One dopey poster says hat we are paying the football coach too much and are therefore profligate, and the next says BC is cheap. Both are as stupid as they claim others to be.

Maybe we couldn't pay the heating bill because of what we pay Adazzio

Conference partnerships or alliances may be significant in the future. The Big 12 has talked to other conferences about the idea including the ACC. It may be to the ACC's advantage to explore this idea. The Big 10 reaps substantial rewards from their own network. If the Big 12, Pac 12 and ACC formed an alliance for scheduling ( ACC plays one non conference game yearly against a Big 12 opponent and one against a PAC 12 team and the Big 12 against an ACC and Pac 12 then the Pac 12 plays ACC and Big 12).This arrangement provides great non league matchups. More importantly this Pacific-Atlantic Alliance(PAA) with three power conferences could be the basis for a strong tv network. The PAA would reach about half the homes in America. Could it double or triple the revenue of the Big 10 network? 2. It has been reported that ESPN is frowning on the ACC forming it's own network while working with the SEC to form one. Whose side are they on? If the alliance can be formed and ESPN tries to obstruct it how would an anti trust suit in Dallas TX look with 36 Colleges suing the tv types from NY? My money would be on the colleges. ESPN would be markedly more malleable in negotiations. Bowlsby has an excellent idea. It may provide a mechanism for the ACC to limit the negative effects of their weak tv deal.

An inter-conference "Challenge" similar to what the ACC/Big-10 do in basketball would be fantastic.

Com'n, admit it. You're really Fr. Leahy, aren't you?

About the heat...so typical of BC's "step over dollars to pick up a penny" mentality. That mindset has never changed and likely never will. Neither will BC's institutional refusal to admit a mistake; see: Spaz.

Now we have Daz chasing off our top-ranked recruit. To what purpose? The lefty kid from Ohio will be interesting, but he is not a "run first option " quarter either.

SHoulda hired Lenny.

The effin' pipes burst. Prime evidence that the idiots turned the heat down too low.

Wow, TheGuru, plumbing pisses you off!

I could have lost the same amount of games for a lot less money. [grin]

Joseph said...

Boy, am I glad that you are not a cop. Evidence ,eh. No possibility that something went wrong with the controls? No possibility that there was a basic design flaw in the system? No chance that a contractor or employee made a mistake? No, in your super negative way you have to assume that the pipes froze for the reason that you like. And, you may be right, but you don't know it.

Lenny, SA has not lost a single game yet.

I think we may have a "glass half empty" basic philosophical disagreement here.

Since BC has not gone undefeated since 1939-40, I think even you might admit that Daz will lose games.

My only assertion, that I could lose those games for a lot less money, must stand. Although if BC and Mr. Bates fell for $1.6 million a year for six (6) years for Daz, who knows what you or I might command as salary.

Joseph said...

and I could lose games for zilch. So what? the BB boys did ok today but the ft still stink. How about 100 shots per day for everyone. I really works.larry bird spent hours at the free throw line every day.

At the old Roberts Center, BC had a couple of baskets that were just large enough for the ball.

Each player should shoot 100 free throws at those small baskets everyday - especially when they are tired.

Such practice would have to help - we haven't been this bad from the line since Jim O'Brien's terrible teams cornered the market on brick-laying.
