Addazio lands two recruits in void of the Spring Game

The Spring Game cancellation didn't mean much from a football standpoint. Essentially it is just one less practice. The bigger loss was from a Marketing standpoint. BC invested a lot of effort and money into making it an event for fans and recruits. The fans -- especially BC ones -- understood the cancellation. The question was would recruits? Based on Steve Addazio's Saturday, it seemed like they did.

BC received verbals from Massachusetts Linebacker Kevin Cohee and Massachusetts OLineman Jon Baker. Aside from the continued recruiting momentum, what I most appreciate about Addazio getting these two is the local connection. Through our coaching changes, BC has lost out on local talent and has been seen as a secondary program. Addazio is clearly changing that.

I know there were many recruits who traveled up to BC Friday for the Spring Game. While they didn't get to see our program, they did get a memorable weekend. How could you be on campus for those celebrations and not think BC would be a good place to play? We will never know exactly if or how Addazio incorporated the Boston Strong movement into his pitch, but I am thankful he stayed focused and made the most of the situation.

Very impressed with Addazio's recruiting so far. He is protecting New England and landed a couple guys in the ACC region. The best of Boston was featured prominently on national news (what other city could knock off a far more deadly tragic event in Texas?) and he can capitalize on the national spirit backing Beantown. I don't get too excited about recruiting as we can never truly judge a class until their junior year, but you just get the sense he is pulling in better athletes than Spaz.

Boston really rose above the tragedy. My wife is a Boston native and even though we are a thousand miles away, I have been amazed at how many people have come up to us and asked about her family and said they are thinking about Boston and very impressed with their law enforcement. We all know Boston is special and hopefully we can convince athletes to come be a part of that wonderful city.

I'm with you. I think the most important in not only pulling guys (Spaz couldn't even fill a full class), is that Addazio is selling the program.

Even if this class doesn't pan out, at least BC's reputation seems on the rebound.

I completely agree. BC has been a great program without top flight recruits. We developed the guys who showed up and managed to turn many of them into 1st round picks. However, that was because that was the hand we were dealt. Daz clearly is not willing to settle.

I love that he is stacking the deck in our favor.
Likely these recruits won't all pay off, but if Daz can develop players the way he recruits them we will be winning ACC championships in no time.

It's always difficult to judge high school talent based on youtube video highlights, but Cohee looks like he'd make an awesome fullback. Granted, the video doesn't show him playing fullback at all, but from the TE position he makes great blocks, catches well, and runs like a fullback after the catch. He's certainly built more like an LB/FB than a TE.
