BC adds a punter to recruiting class

Recruiting class are not just about stars and ratings. It is also about backfilling positions, especially in unique areas like Special Teams. It looks like Addazio found his punter of the future, as Texas kicker/punter Grant Carlson committed Wednesday.

Ignore Carlson's low rating. His position ranking (5th overall) is signal that he has enough leg. If a guy has enough leg, he can refine technique and improve (with BC's coaching and private special teams coaching). Carlson also kicks too. Maybe we will luck out and he'll be an asset in both.

BC has recruited plenty of good kickers and punters over the years. When they struggle it is rarely about the leg and all about the head. We won't know if Carlson can hack it at this level until he takes the field. Good luck to him and welcome aboard.

yay, punter kid, but we really need a kicker.

not this gentleman Knoll misses PAT DOOMS BC vs PSU And, sadly, no BC fan was surprised he choked.

Lest we not forget, BC was the worst kicking team in the nation last year. oh my

Thanks ATL.

I see we beat our Army and Cornell for this kid! Whoa!

But I did see this from "kicking world" which suggests kid has a lot of promise, partiuclarly in the PAT department:

Grant was perfect on PATs (62/62) his entire sophomore Varsity season. He is one of the best kicker/punter combo guys in Texas and one of the top 2016 kicker/punters in the country, and our best all-around prospect right now. He was crushing 50+ yard field goals in 8th grade and has developed into an excellent kicker who made Varsity as a sophomore and can kick back to 60+ yard FGs with ease. He kicked several touchbacks and routinely puts the ball 65+ yards deep. His punts are long and stay in the air well, with great ‘wobble’ on the decline. Kohl’s kicking has him as the #2 (punter) and #4 (kicker) in the Class of 2016. At our December 2014 Kicking World Showcase Event, Grant finished #2 Overall on Kickoffs (69 yard avg), #1 Overall on Field Goals (made all kicks back to 65 yards), and #1 Overall on Punts (45 yard Net Avg). Grant is above and beyond ready to excel at the FBS level and is well-deserved of a scholarship. Overall, the best combination kicker/punter in our program.

Wow -- I wish you the best, Grant and I hope you find that Boston is a fantastic college town and Boston College is a fantastic school.
