BC wins 4th scrimmage handles Howard

BC won 76-0 and it wasn't even that close. The only bright side of the day is that everyone got to play.

I have a feeling that the debate about the merits of playing Howard will continue until the end of the season. If BC wants to prove the game was worth it, then they can come out strong against Florida State.

I will have grades and second viewing thoughts up Sunday...although I don't know what you can make of this sort of game. For those who attended the game, what was the atmosphere like on campus?

ATL, I like reading your second viewing thoughts and grades. But in this case I don't know how you can possibly grade today's performance. Our top performers weren't even the starters and we cut the game short.

This game does nothing except satisfy exercise requirements for fat lineman.

NMSU played Florida last weekend. Is that why they canceled us?

Wow. We knew this was pretty much w scrimmage. Better be worth it.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Smith is the starter by the end of the year. At the very least he needs to get reps in every game, a la JT Barrett. Hard to get too excited about the team after this game, since we could've given the GT-Cumberland game a run for its money. But this weekend has proven that you still have to show up and play to win(Auburn), and just because you scheduled an FCS team, you aren't guaranteed to shut them out and run away with the game (many teams). Kudos to the team for playing til the last whistle and not running up the score.

I've got it! The big take aways!

We have depth at PAT kickers (yeah baby! We are back) , and they rock!

Jeff Smith is faster than anyone on Howard

Our guys came to play! They knew it would be no contest, and they were not afraid. with great swagga', ala Miami of old, they crushed the opponent

It was all sound and fury signifying nothing

Also, Al Groh needs to not use his yelling coach voice while he's an announcer.

I liked that freshman Michael Walker was touted like a star by the announcers, that senior Sean Burke (a true scholar-athlete) got to score a touchdown (first and last, most likely), and that no one got hurt, apparently. Otherwise, let's never do this again.

Atmosphere was weird pre, during and post game. No excitement obviously going in and the crowd in the stadium showed it. Fairly impressed with students as they were pretty full and seemed to stay in until the half.

The biggest issue is this creates no excitement. If we beat NMST or Georgia State by 50 I'd be more excited than beating Howard by 76. All this makes me thing is rather than prepare more for FSU, were less prepared because our starters never had to go more than 40 yards to score and most times went less than 10. We learned nothing, they learned nothing and now we have to try to go from the worst possible opponent to one of the best. Its not going to be pretty...

What a difference between these two opponents.

We had better be ready for Mr. Cook, RB, FSU.

But then again, they had better be ready for all of our RBs.

Go BC.

I think this game was a disgrace. I hope this never happens again. Us against the Pats would have been less of a mismatch. I think Daz agrees. "We've got a big-time game coming up. Hopefully the speed of the game won't hit us in the mouth."

Dan said...

Agreed. FSU is #16 in rushing mostly on Cook's back. We are #15 on our stable of RBs.

We're lucky non of the Howard kids didn't come out of the game in a wheelchair, or worse yet dead. Anyone who has ever played organized full contact football, I don't care what level, knows what I'm talking about. Instead of trying to be cheap and make statements about COA, how about making a statement about player safety,bY announcing we will not play anymore of these types of games, that's something we could be proud of.

Nutty Hoib, are you referring to your days of danger while playing with a leather helmet?

In the last 60 years, 2! Unfortunate souls died from contact in an NCAA football game.

See this Wiki on Football deaths

No players from Howard were in danger from Bc players from death or maiming at any greater level than any other football game . So over-the-top ridiculous

Get off the soap box.
