John Lamot joins recruiting class

Do you want good news or bad news? The good news is that BC added North Carolina athlete John Lamot to the 2016 recruiting class. Lamot was an Elon verbal where he planned to play QB. At BC he will play Defense (probably a linebacker). The bad news is that he is an unrated prospect and another late addition that doesn't seem to have much attention from any other FBS program.

As much as I would like BC to land five star prospects that everyone wants, I am okay with the Lamot decision. He's been to BC's camp and the staff has been watching him a long time. They know what they are getting. I also have more confidence in how we use prospects on the defensive side of the ball. If Don Brown believes the guy can play, who am I to doubt?

It will be interesting to see how BC fills out the class. We know there will be transfers and a few under the radar types. Hopefully they flip an elite prospect too.

Hmm. This is NC kids is not so promisingdiamondd in the rough?? . But fair point on D - brown rule

Per Rivals, BC picked up another no-star commit Friday . Mike Palmer from Maine. 6'1 160 lbs. ATH. He has interest from Cornell and other Ivies, but no offers. He did have an offer from our new rival Wagner and Army (with that 5 year hitch in the Army) We got this kid.

How did we get so lucky to get to no star recruits with to real other competitive offers?

Simple: Daz. He excels at recruiting. Ha!

Now half of our commits have 2 stars or less,

BC is 12/14 in ACC in recruiting and #60 nationally (among lowest P5 programs). BC also has just about the lowest quality recruits in ACC

Going 0-for-ACC has its consequences.

Is Daz into Spaz-land bad recruiting already??.

This getting real bad.

My comment to Eagle in Atlanta (not trying to be sarcastic)- if Lamot had been to the BC camp and they had been watching him , then why did they wait until mid December before making an offer ??? Despite my respect for Don Brown , maybe , just maybe ,is there a bit of panic on the staff !!!! I am very worried !!!!

Its tough to recruit anywhere for a 3-9 team. But for a program like ours in a conference like ours its even more difficult in view of recent history, facilities, location, overall atmosphere, lack of phys ed degree/core academic requirements, etc. It will take a monumental effort plus some good luck to get us out of this hole we dug for ourselves. I'm afraid that it will take years without a major realignment of priorities and top down management of athletics at BC. Hope I'm wrong (as I don't expect major change) but its difficult to be optimistic without new blood, new attitudes and new expectations.

Curious why GT is so low in recruiting - last in ACC given locale? ACC recruiting ranking

Style of offense? Paul Johnson personality?

CT or ATL maybe you have some idea?

There needs to be a serious, objective assessment of BC's athletic department and an institutional commitment to making the changes required to return to more consistent competitiveness.

No staff changes on a team that ranked last on offense in the FBS, recruiting of FCS level talent .... Sounds like more of the underachieving same.

Complete joke. Another non FCS player given a scholarship b/c BC is desperate. Guido is spot on. If we know so much about this kid, then why did we offer in December?

I was very disturbed today when I realized that one of the local Catholic school powers in my area, in Northern New Jersey, coached by a BC grad who went on to have a brief NFL career, did not have any one of their "star" players considering BC as a future destination. If we can't attract talent from a natural source like this then we are truly in deep doo-doo. This coach also was awarded the Scanlon while at BC.

@Henry K: Well said and very disturbing. We stole an "Elon" recruit. How sorrowful is that?

On the other hand, it looks pretty clear BC just asked and he jumped to say yes.

Offense, yes. Johnson literally doesn't give a flip about those rankings. He's also not recruiting the same kids as UGA/SEC-the academic thing plays a big part at Tech. Skill guys just stay away.

I've always wondered why BC doesn't try to own the Jesuit High School football programs. They are generally some of the best in their cities. A lot of times they won't have "elite" recruits, yet they win consistently. (Loyola Chicago just won the largest division in Illinois. Had shut outs in half their games. Only 2 kids have D1 schols - a DT to Northern IL and a TE to Northwestern) But given we aren't getting the elite recruits anyway, shouldn't we be mining the fields for the kids that have the desire, discipline and potential to grow into major college football players? Plus we know the rigor that they have been through. Generally, they aren't going to be academic or behavior risks. Why doesn't the BC Football staff run a coaching clinic for Jesuit HS football coaches every year? Bring them on campus and create those relationships. Get the heads up on a rising sophomore or a kid a coach swears by even though his metrics don't jump off the charts.

It seems like a natural pipeline and it takes advantage of what we can do - develop kids over time and give them a great education in a place with the values that they and their parents are used to from High School.

Agree with OrdEagle.

Hey BC - Duh!

What is the ROI on Lamont? Fucking zero. Waste of time and money. Save the scholarship or give it to a student who got into the school on their merit.

This shit is ridiculous.

Jesuit schools and catholics in general.

O'B went to see Jeremy Trublood and stumbled upon Kiwanuka. Same Catholic school.

Time will tell of course. Although coaches change, BC always gets the same quality. Must be something to that. Admin?

Well said ORDEagle - our built in advantage should be with Catholic High Schools - but we don't seem to ingratiate ourselves there. I have also suggested that the school sponsor a summer coaches clinic for CHS coaches. Establish connections - get to know the faces - build relationships. Having a couple sports minded Jesuits help with the recruiting of some of these CHS kids would also help. The parents of these kids sacrificed to pay tuition to a Catholic school. They would like to hear from BC.

CT said...

They don't do that already? Catholic schools are a dime a dozen up north. Down here in the south, we're getting there. You guys keep moving down here.

mod34b said...

Catholics schools up north are fading fast.. i'd say a $1 a dozen.

having gone to Catholic HS, i do not know a single person who graduated from Catholic HS (or BC for that matter) that sent their kid to a Catholic HS. I am sure there are BC grads that did send their kids to a Catholic school, but probably not more than 20% did so (guess)

Recruitment of the class and all the lectures of the students are rendered and implemented. Its impact and consequences of the future are engrossed researchpaperservicesreviews.com and implemented. If it is done and advanced, the techniques of the right and bight terms are dealt with. It is the pertinent and persistent tinge of the individuals. It is the feature of blogs.
