BC adds California Tight End

California Tight End Patrick Brown committed to the football team this weekend. He's a three star with lower tier FBS offers, but still represents a good get. We have invested more time in California of late, so it is good to get a commitment. Brown plays for Cathedral Catholic which is a strong program in the San Diego area. Hopefully he won't be the only California product in this class.

Agree with Mod, this guy clearly isn't going to be a 10 time NFL MVP let alone a Heisman contender as a true freshman. If we're not getting guaranteed Hall of Famers then what's the point? I bet Daz is just sending offer letters to every backup high school player in the league and paying off recruiting services to rank them as two and three star recruits. That way he can sucker the fanbase in to thinking they're real players. Wouldn't surprise me if this kid doesn't even exist. Ponzi scheme masquerading as a football team. In two years we'll show up for the opening game and there won't actually be any players!

If memory serves me right, almost every NFL player from BC over the past 30 years were mere 2 or 3 stars.

Without doing research , I can think of two former players who were 4 stars - William Green (running back - under TOB ) Brian Toal (Linebacker / fullback) out of New Jersey - Wasn't he St. Peter's Prep (father coached there). There are also probably others- some started as 3 stars and quickly changed to 4 stars. Though we are not going to compete with the so called elite schools , we should still extend offers and especially put extra effort with local kids who are 4 stars or close to that rating. For coach Addazio to say at the Gridiron Club meeting that BC is not that kind of institution that will attract 4/5 stars is conceding defeat and represents an inappropriate outlook. Obviously , you spend the majority of time where you think you can be successful in getting quality and character as TOB did often. And we were able to recruit many three star quality recruits. We never recruited as many 2 star athletes as the current staff.

I grew up a couple miles from Cathedral Catholic in SD, they moved from downtown to the suburbs when I was in high school. I played at the public school and now they steal all of the good players from us. Our football team has never been the same, so I have a bit of a grudge against the school.

That being said, they're definitely the best Catholic school in the SD area and we got a recruit from them last year too. There's actually a lot of goodwill for BC in California (I think it surpassed Mass as having the most incoming freshman). Catholic schools in CA are ripe for the taking (after they realize they can't play at Notre Dame). Hopefully this becomes a pipeline.

Miguelito, Cathedral still isn't as good as Saints! Both Cathedral and Saints basketball programs are pretty good too. Trey Kell, now at SDSU, is probably the best to come from either program the last few years. Add Mater Dei from the south and a few schools from Orange County (Servite) and Temecula and that could be fertile recruiting territory for both sports.

Bravesbill, you're right St Augustine did beat Cathedral this year. I'm not sure what the overall record is between the two teams..I always though Cathedral was better but I might be wrong

Ha no worries. Just had to point that out. Class of 2001 here. Back in the day they were Uni and were still our hated rivals.

Miguelito you were right- Cathedral is WAY better than Saints at everything (me and my bro went to Uni, my dad went to saints, tons of cousins also lol). One of the best rivalries out there.

For the record Uni wasn't downtown. It was more central (Linda Vista / Bay Park) but not downtown. Saints, in North Park, is much closer to downtown.

The football program has been putting out more players lately, which is great.

BC has long had a strong footprint in southern california, including me, there were 4 kids from Uni alone that were in my class at BC. 3 guys on my team were from San Diego area, 1 more guy from Orange County. I knew 3 other kids who played sports at BC a year older than me from Torrey Pines. 1 from Bishops. And thats just off the top of my head. BC can definitely recruit socal if it puts some effort in.

and you can never even compare chicks from OLP to the ones at uni thats not even a conversation.

Saints owns Uni (Cathedral will forever be referred to as Uni) in most everything. Uni did produce good baseball players back in the day (Quentin, Zito)though. Saints also is a feeder school into BC, which should consistently be tapped.
