Wade redshirt bigger deal than Hilliman

Despite playing in multiple games, Darius Wade and Jon Hilliman both received medical redshirts for last season. It is good news for everyone that they now have more playing time, however, with regards to program building, Wade is the bigger deal.

Hilliman is going to play and probably play a lot next season. Even coming off of injury, he will still be BC's best running back. The medical redshirt gives him one more season, but it doesn't impact his immediate future nor does it really change his status at BC. Maybe he will transfer as a fifth year, but more likely he will continue to play out his eligibility if he is happy.

Wade is a different story. With Towles coming in, his opportunity to start is challenged. He might have to sit for another year. If he had not received a redshirt, sitting might not make sense. It would only leave him with one more season of eligibility. No worries about immediate transfers. It would also be ideal for his health and learning the new offense. BC needs long-term stability on offense, so by having Wade develop slowly -- and happily -- BC and he can hopefully benefit in 2017 and 2018.

Wade could really develop by being the backup to Towles.

Hopefully there is a plan to get him some meaningful snaps this year so we're not rolling the dice on a totally green QB in '17

I wouldnt want to see the same carousel with Wade and Towles this year that we saw with Smith, Flutie, and Fadule last year. But a reasonable effort to get Darius some further experience should be a part of the plan for this year. He has prepped as the starter a few times already, working behind Towles can give him more time to get to a full 100% healthy, adjust to Loeffler, and get ready o win the job in 2017.

I watched them scrimmage and was impressed with Wade and not Towles Wade more athletic threw a tad bomb and had nice runs. Towles is huge.

Towles is here for the masters degree. Said it when they signed him. I think he had 9td passes and 17 ints last year. Not impressive.

If the line "comes together" then one of QB's will be decent. It is all about the development of the line.

Towles is not here to sit. He's going to start in Dublin. I know many were not fond of what TOB used to do, but a similar plan should be implemented. Perhaps not as stringent as TOB (1st drive of 2nd half or whatever he did), but he should be get meaningful snaps throughout the season, and major snaps when appropriate, especially considering the dog shit OOC schedule, should be plenty of opportunities.

SOS, the Smith/Flutie/Fadule thing was not by design. I think Addazio made the best of an awful situation by giving Smith and Flutie a crack. My only argument was he waited too long to start Smith (it was evident much earlier that Flutie was trash). The rest was dictated by injury, again not by design and not Addazios fault per say. I think it's safe to assume that we will never see something like that again.

Knucklehead, I don't think it's fair to evaluate PT based on last year. It sounds as if the UK locker room was extremely dysfunctional. The year before, in his first full year starting, he threw for 14 tds to 9 int ( 9/14 in year 2). I think his time at UK was very similar to that of Rettig here in the sense that he has lacked continuity at the OC position, but compounded by locker room issues. I'm in the camp that thinks Towles has ability, but regardless of that, has the most in game experience if anyone n the roster. He has a strong arm and can move very well for his size, he's no doubt the best QB on paper to start this year

Mod once again you're dead wrong. If you still fail to see the pure numbers situation on the OL that Spaziani left here (and the direct correlation it had on last years offense), then I really don't know what to tell you. You enjoy referencing the recent Gridiron Club event in many posts, Addazio have a pretty fair explanation during that. They couldn't take any OL on the transition class. The previous year, Spaz took 3, only 2 still remain in program. Addazios first OL class are only juniors. So what should have done, bit the bullet and played young guys the first 2 years instead of last year ? This OL was bottoming out at some point, it was just inevitable.

Since all you do is whine and complain about the same nonsensical garbage every time you post here, explain to me your solution for what Addazio should have done over his first 3 years with the offensive line (understanding of course the idea of roster construction). Outside of recruiting 3-4 5th year OL last season (which isn't feasible), what is your solution ?

Mod34 - you take a lot of heat and much criticism , but for the most part , I totally agree with you. His poor recruiting and trying to control the Offense has been the major problem for the sad state of affairs in BC football . Why do so many people try to blame all of our problems on Spaziani - That is pure b/s !!!! And regarding the O-line, why would you be recruiting a kid who weighs only 240lbs - please , look at ND - how many O/Line recruits come in at 240lbs. The smallest is probably 6'4" and 285lbs. HIS RECRUITING IS AWFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
