More Hoops schedule info and other links

The dates and opponents are now known for Basketball's trip to Brooklyn. BC will face Kansas State November 25 in the Barclays Center. BC will then face either Richmond or Maryland in Day 2 of the event.

Former BC Athletic Director and BC grad Chet Gladchuk won a prestigious AD award. Gladchuk's post-BC career has been fascinating. He did many things that used up goodwill and the Henning-gambling issue ultimately cost him his job, but he has used his second chances to really turn other Athletic programs around.

BC is still putting the hard sell on New Jersey Defensive Lineman Mike Tverdov.

I visited New York over St. Patrick's Day and was able to see an NCAA matchup (Villanova v UNC-Ash) at Barclay's Center. It is close to being one of the wonders of the world. I was in the "nose bleed" area but every seat has a good view. There are something like 9 subway lines with connections. The plaza is out of this world. Brooklyn is a bad place but Barclay's is super safe. BC fans should take the opportunity to see one of the games.

Brooklyn is a great place JBQ. You know not of what you speak.

Gladchuk was easily the best AD in BC history. He hired York, Coughlin, Skinner, Inglese and TOB. They were the best coaches BC ever had in football, hockey, men's and women's basketball. No one could have done a better job. What he did at Navy is just a continuation of an unrivaled record of success.Curiously when he was in Chestnut Hill he had bad press. His total incompetent successor had a good press. What does that say about the media? Was that because Gladchuk kept confidences while others were leaking to the press and betraying their employers trust? Was it because he fired Jim O'Brien, the Globe's inside man at BC? The gambling scandal was as big a fraud as the Duke lacrosse rape case. Nothing happened in either case but a media frenzy and wilding ensued. Gladchuk never wore out his welcome he just didn't want to be relentlessly defamed by the jock sniffers at the Globe who lost a source. 2. Congrats to the baseball team and good luck against the Caines.

@moderb: All of the crime is in Brooklyn. @NEDofSavinHill: I agree on the assessment of Gladchuk. Both DeFillipo and Bates have been major disappointments. Navy has been very professional in their approach to sports since the arrival of Gladchuk. The hiring of Ken Niumatalolo was a major coup.

NEDofSavinHill - you are right on with Gladchuk . And how that "Little Midget"that followed him prospered with the Administration is beyond me. I am afraid the current AD is not equipped to do the job either though not sleazy like the "Midget". Oh yes , THE SCANDAL - are u kidding ????

JBQ, do you know where the most violent city in America is (based on 2014 murder rate). It is your city - St. Louis.

NYC as of 2014, was enjoying an historic low crime rate and ranks #64 of America cities for murder rate.

So, you still got Brooklyn wrong (except for Barclay Centre). I am not recommending you go to some of the truly nasty parts of Brooklyn, but there are tons of really nice spots in Brooklyn, even for a hayseed from the Midwest. :-)

There were certainly many good moves made by Gladchuk unlike recent history at the heights. Which is a good lead in to below.

I just went to my 40th reunion, good fun. I encourage all of u to go to your reunions. I'm a class volunteer so I got to go to a preliminary reception, for several hundred people, at which Fr. Leahy spoke. He encouraged us to ask questions, so I took my chance. In his talk he said the school seriously studies the previous 10 years and then plans accordingly for the next 10. His basic theme was that everything at BC is in order. So I asked him what he planned to do going forward about the crummy performance in our 2 Marquis sports based on the results of the last 10 years. His answer was complete spin. He lead w/ the new practice facility and pressed me to lead the effort to get a naming donor. He went on to say results for the last 10 years haven't been bad. Then he riffed on the current baseball success and all the other good things going on in the minor sports. He made no effort to specifically answer the question.

Bottom line is like Nappy has been saying for a while we have an empty collar at the top of the athletic pyramid, who doesn't much care how we do. IMO, things will be status quo till he exits.

Love the Barclay Centre. There really are no bad parts of Brooklyn these days. Millennials are moving in everywhere, including Bed Sty, and Bushwick.

@mod34b: Just ask any residue of Brooklyn Dodger fans. Brooklyn is not New York. This "hayseed" always has a good time in New York. St. Louis indeed is the most violent city in America and it is getting worse every day.

@Hoib: I am saddened by the response of Father Leahy.

Hoib - Fr Leahy is a politician. He'll never give you a straight answer on such a topic. He did the same with me several years ago. but that does not make him an "empty collar." His priorities are not in an order sports bloggers like, but he is going a great job on his mission: first rate education at BC.

I think an interesting question to think about this year is whether Bates's contract will be renewed? I hope it won't be.
