In-game comments post: Wagner

This game shouldn't be interesting. Yet I know that just by thinking (and writing) that way invites all sorts of jinxes. I want to see a dominant performance that starts to erase the problems of last week. We can do this!

For those at the game, can you estimate attendance.

Go Wagner

Darn, I can't get the game. It's on some network called "ACC Network Plus." I have to sign in to our cable account and my wife has changed the passwords so many times, I have no idea how to log in or if it would even work if I could. Why can't they just make it easy and put it on ESPN3?

Towles just isn't good. Neither is the O-line.
I'll take the TD, but there's no reason he should have to be scrambling around so much against Wagner.
Commentators are literally laughing about Towles not seeing open receivers.

Another good return negated by a stupid/useless block in the back.
Great coaching.
Towles sucks.
3&out.
Nice punt.

sounds like Washington needs to spend a lot of time with his special teams unit working on what is the back of a person versus the front. That is two huge returns called back to a block in the back in successive weeks.

Is Scott Mutryn the sideline guy for the BC broadcast?

Bravesbill said...

EB you can get the game on ESPN3.

OK, 2 nice throws there. Gotta give him credit.

Just woke up from a long nap. Does BC still play football? Are they as good as they used to be? Do they still play top national opponents? If they do still play football, who are they playing today? ND? Alabama? USC?

Thanks,

block in the back, unsportsmanlike conduct, kickoff going out of bounds, sideline interference.....All in the first half.

And Knoll just had a 20 yard punt to the Wagner 45. No idea if it was partially blocked or a case of the shanks. 28-10 at the half. Nice lead, but we'll be playing 15 minute quarters in the second half this time. Not quite Howard redux.

Scoreboard watching - Wisconsin crushing Michigan State on the road. What does that say about Notre Dame?

Now that I'm awake, also wondering what ever happened to two old time eastern rivals we used to smoke on an annual basis. Did Rutgers give up football? In this day of conference alignment they must have been left out in the cold.
And how about Temple? Still around? I remember a few years ago the joke in AD circles was if you want to get fired, hire a former Temple coach. Thank God BCs too smart to do that.

You know I'm thinking that the game they played against a Wagner-type team last year had to be called before the end of the game. That it itself should tell you how badly Bates and the coach have brought BC down. Think of this -- if they had gone 12 and 0 this year playing U Mass, U Conn, Wagner, and Buffalo they might not have been in the top 25.

It is sad the guy who runs this blog wants to see "a dominant performance that starts to erase the problems of last week." What is a dominant performance against a team that probably would lose to a top high school team?. Will it erase the last four years or do we look at these clowns week by week -- "hey, we had a good season - 6 and 6 - we go to a bowl - give the coach and AD an extension." Where is your pride.

128 teams in FBS division.
39 Bowl games.
For you BU math majors out there, this means there is a 61% chance of making a bowl game.
The Daz got an extension by being in the top 40%. Awesome. Then he lost to a Penn State team that had 3 players on scholarship.
Atta boy Bates!

Our Athletics Department is working hard - doesn't this just give you goose bumps? http://www.bceagles.com/news/2016/9/23/boston-college-athletics-bostons-college-campaign-adds-new-street-team-members.aspx

Why didn't Nick Saban think of this? Brilliant.

The mascots are the creation of known designer and puppeteer Randy Carfagno. Combining a passion that began at the age of five with a professional career spanning over 36 years, his work has appeared on Broadway, television, in feature films, theatre and commercials. Described as whimsical and meticulously crafted, Randy's prolific work reflects a wide range of styles and abilities.

Carfagno developed and honed his puppet building skills by working with the best in the field. He has appeared on Broadway as a puppeteer and has also built and performed in multiple shows with international marionette master Bil Baird of Bil Baird Marionettes. Carfagno also worked on numerous productions with Jim Henson Productions.

Everything is okay. We're back on track. We're trending upward. We're going to get to bed early tonight. We didn't have to travel so we're well rested. Head coach, too. Offensive line is growing. Good to go in 2019. Hard to rebuild at BC. Class requirements and all. We're getting there. Have to find a WR. Hard to recruit skill positions. Speed and all that. Okay? Anything more? On to Buffalo.

Napolean Bonapart - yes it is nice the athletic department is going to do nothing about the pathetic football and basketball coaches and concentrate on coming up with new mascots. Their choice of mascots is on line with their choice of coaches. It seems very strange a supposedly Catholic school would select two of the biggest anti-Catholics.

Here's a little history. Sam Adams told a group of Mohawk Indians that the law “to establish the religion of the Pope in Canada” would mean that “some of your children may be induced instead of worshipping the only true God, to pay his dues to images made with their own hands.” The silversmith and engraver Paul Revere created a cartoon for the Royal American Magazine called “The Mitred Minuet.” It depicted four contented-looking mitred Anglican Bishops, dancing a minuet around a copy of the Quebec Act to show their “approbation and countenance of the Roman religion.” Standing nearby are the authors of the Quebec Act, while a Devil with bat ears and spiky wings hovers behind them, whispering instructions.

Good job BC athletic department.

Napolean and Baldy - interesting that BC takes two prominent anti catholic revolutionary war figures, turns them into cartoons and says all is well. i guess this is your source baldy THIS

maybe BC can erect a statute of Oliver Cromwell for St Paddy's day.

The athletic department is truly bunch of dopes.

Just got back from game.

Running game was good.

Wagner called some good plays offensively that would have been effective if they were more talented. Their schemes were good and our defense did not recognize them. That is my one concern coming from this game.

"Sam Adams believed that "much more is to be dreaded from
the growth of Popery in America than from the Stamp Act." Harvard
College sponsored a series of lectures devoted in part to
"detecting, convicting and exposing the idolatry, errors and
superstitions of the Romish church." In New York, John Jay (later
the first chief justice of the Supreme Court) argued that
Catholics should be denied property and civil rights unless they
denounced "the dangerous and damnable doctrine that the Pope, or
any other earthly authority, hath power to absolve men from their
sins."

Does our AD Bates know that BC was founded in (and in response to) an environment of strong anti-catholicism in MA and, partly, as a place for irish catholic students who were regularly turned away by the likes if harvard etc.

So now through our sports department we celebrate two historic anti catholic figures. ??

actauly far worse than the effort to portray BC as "Boston's College" - in sync with those in bars in Southie

Yes, my source is easily located on the net. Anyone with half a brain in the athletic department could have found it; worse, I thought it was common knowledge those early patriots were no fans of the papists.

I only wish you had not mentioned the Oliver Cromwell statute. Some in the athletic department may think that is a good idea. They'll no doubt confuse him with that other guy Oliver Plunkett.

Holy shit. What a disaster this thread is.
