Lots to digest in this BC win. Garrison goes down with a broken leg. Another flat start. Confusion leading to burned timeouts. Yet, on the flipside, Jones looked good in the backfield. The Defense dominated. Rouse looks really good on Special Teams.
The season seems like it will really come down to how much in-season improvement we can get from Towles and the Oline. At times things look good but moments later it is a mess.
BC has matched last year's win total. I hope they're not done.
I will have grades and second viewing thoughts up late Sunday.

I did not watch game. But 2 things jump out.
1. 57!l rushing attempts and 147 yards 2.5 yards a carry against the worst rushing D in FBS.
Was the OL terrible.? These are pretty bad numbers. Last 2 Buffalo opponents each ran for close to 400 yards a game
2. Punting. 30 yards a punt?? WTF is that for FBS football ? Why did grad transfer punter satchel ziffer quit? He atleast avg'd 41 yards
How many total yards for Buffalo?
Buffalo had just 67 total yards. 5 first downs, 1-11 on 3rd down. Had the ball just 17 minutes. I can't remember the last time I have seen that.
Unfortunately, we can now look forward to an embarrassing defeat on national TV this Friday night. We will probably lose by 3-4 touchdowns. Nearly 2 years now since the last ACC win.
Looking more and more like another 0-8 ACC season. Honestly, with the possible exception of Syracuse, I don't see us winning another game.
Buffalo was playing "...an 11-man front", which, when faced by our offense, the TV announcers said reminded them of a high school game.
Sean Coyne, a senior at Portsmouth (RI) High School [Mike Cloud's alma mater], the town next to mine, kicked a 58 yard field goal last night. Wonder if BC has checked into him?
Clemson will hold us to 65 yards rushing if we're lucky. So will Louisville.
Maybe 65 yards total.
They will come out flat in our empty house and only score 4 TDs in the first half.
The good news is that we're highly unpredictable and hugely dynamic on offense. And if we're not...well, we're young, our Oline is inexperienced, and we'll be a new team in 2018. Or so.
BTW -what really is the story with the punting?
Was Knoll simply pinning them back deep in their own territory? That might explain the horrid average for the second week in a row.
The rushing stats are pretty lousy as well.
On a more serious note...Clemson's defense will watch our tape after this UL game and chuckle.
Clemson is unsportsmanlike.
They should have taken a knee, but instead went 73 yards in 30 seconds to score a TD at the end of the half.
Not very nice. Who do they think they are?
Addazio has the right idea, not Clemson. You play not to lose instead of playing to win.
When you play to win, it's downright unsportsmanlike.
John, I could be wrong but I think the weather conditions were pretty bad and that may have affected the punting.
"Something wicked, this way comes". Will Addazio survive the embarrassment?
It's not just the weather. There were about three 20-something yard punts vs. Wagner
macros -- exactly.. BC now last in ACC in punting and #119.
but oddly, Knoll has some decent punts in the early part of the year, and now is awful.. 3 in 20s vs Wagner and a a bunch f 20/30 yard punts
And Daz seemed to have chased away Satchel Ziffer.. the grad transfer punter who can punt in the 40s. Maybe something odd happened with Ziffer??
Scrimmage time over. Reality returns on Saturday.
friday
we r doomed
I said after the Dublin game that punting would be an issue this year.
If punting was our only issue..
If punting was our only issue..
I think the big disgrace will come Friday night. The score will be bad enough, perhaps. But what will be really bad is a half-filled stadium, and half of them will be Clemson fans.
What Mr. Brad Bates failed to see is how an Athletic Director can absolutely lose a pretty loyal fan base. Howard, and Wagner, etc. were simply the straws that broke the camel's back.
Just look at the dramatic and precipitous fall in attendance. It's as if Bates has conspired to do this - has tried to do this. Certainly, if he were doing a good job, our stadium would be rocking and rolling this Friday night - and we'd have a chance to win.
Instead, we'll have 30K if we're lucky against the #3 team in the country on ESPN.
Once enthusiasm has been killed. it's tough to get it back, Brad.
BTW - if Clemson easily stuffed Georgia Tech's rushing attack, what will they do to ours? Stay tuned for news.
I'm sorry to be so negative.
I have been to two Georgia Tech games this year - both losses to Clemson and Miami.
However, the welcoming atmosphere, pricing, parking, tailgating, etc is much better than ours. Brad, I can park closer to Bobby Dodd Stadium in a covered garage for $20, than I can at lower Brighton for $40. I can get tickets for less. And I don't have to walk a half a mile from my seat to a men's room.
What's the point? Lower the prices, Brad - welcome the fans, open up the campus, win some ACC games, make some sensible stadium improvements, and bring back the fans. I hate to parrot a certain person, but you seem to be a low energy individual. Somehow, bring us some energy.
"Thanks for coming, enjoy the game, enjoy the campus, have a nice picnic/tailgate with your friends - we really appreciate your support", etc.
Sorry - when I'm fed up I ramble.
Big Jack, You're not being negative, you are being realistic. Right now, our situation is pretty grim. But the handwriting was really on the wall 8 years ago, when GDF gutted the football and basketball programs. I still wonder what his motive was, but the important point is that he sent both programs in a downward spiral that continues to this day. Following a prolonged period of indifference, the BC administration made half-hearted efforts to fix the situation with Bates and 2 mediocre hires, Daz and Christian. Now we have just about reached bottom. I think that if we thought the administration cared, we would just put it down to a bad patch, but no. They are waiting to get invited to some bowl held in Toledo at 8:00 the day after CHristmas so they can tout "progress!!!" and ask for more $$$. This would be based, of course, on victories against UMass, Buffalo, Wagner and [maybe] UConn and Wake. 8 years ago, WE were the 2nd ranked team in the country. BC threw it away. Except for the kids on the field, there is no pride left, certainly not in the administration.
I've been feeling down about no longer giving a *@%* about BC football...or hoops, for that matter...when they used to be my passion. Then I read BJK, always a beacon of positive energy in the past, and I realize I'm just sick of the bs. Why should I care so much when the BC BOT and Athletic Dept don't give a shat.
Thanks for systematically and callously ruining one of the most enjoyable aspects of life, at least the leisure time part of it, for me.
Clean house, and start at the top with the Jez Prez
We should all be grateful that the biggest things we can gripe about are a football team in decline. First World problems!
I'm with you Baller.
Eagleboston - yes there are big problems in the "real world". That's why our enjoyment of our school's athletic program was so important as diversion. And it's fun and so forth. But the downward spiral has got to stop. Because it's no longer fun and something for us to be proud of.
So we complain and can only hope it will change. We are at the point of "been down so long, don't know what up is".
Wow. i read an article that said BC's attendance has gone dowm to the pits at the football games. Do you believe that seen out of ten of the lowest attended games ever at Alumni Stadium have been since Addazzio has coached the team. Does anyone know how many people attended the Buffalo game? These figures alone should tell you what has become of BC football. Maybe it is because guys like Ned of Savin Hill have been right all along about the team.
BJK - Knoll must have some injury. he was hitting decent punts in the first few games. not awesome....but 40 ish...
of course the grad student back up left the team... not good timing to lose the back up
Baldy, the attendance was listed at a bit over 24,000 per the box score on Buffalo's web site. The Globe had "NA" for attendance. I spoke to someone who went and he said that figure must have included fingers and toes. Dismal day, weak opponent. Ever to seek bowl-eligibility. And likely fail.
