End of the Week Rant: BC better honor the 2007 team next season!

With Jags popping up around the BC blogosphere, I was reminded of something that needs to happen. Next season, BC needs to honor and welcome back members of the 2007 Atlantic Division Champions!

Jags is clearly still a lightning rod among BC fans, but that is not the point. Having some sort of gameday event would be about honoring the whole team ten years after their great run. I know BC is honoring Matt Ryan this season, but he wasn't a one man team. Think of how great it would be to have Silva, Herzlich, Albright, Tennant, Brandon Robinson, Purvis, Larkin, and the rest all back. Have Callender catch a pass in the corner! Have Aponavicius kick a chip shot!

Who knows if Bates will even be here next fall? I also don't know if Addazio will want reminders of other teams' successes during his make or break fifth year. But I don't care what they want. The team deserves it and it would be nice to remember when this was all fun.

are there no Game Watch posts anymore because no BC alumni have game watches due to the miserable on field product?

I stopped with the game watch post because BC and Facebook made them obsolete. Most regional BC clubs have active Facebook pages. And BC also posts their game watch info too.

ATL, as someone who found a great group of alumni through your posts, and now runs the game watches, I'd beg you to bring the weekly posts back. BC's information is never up to date, and they don't promote enough.

Its not so much for the people who are already in the group, as it is for the new comers who haven't found a home in their new towns.

Boy, there sure is a lot of buzz about this game - NOT. We'd rather talk about Jags, I guess.

As I recall, Penn State leads the pack by hanging 50 on us twice at Alumni.

My senior year - 50 to 28 and Doug Flutie's sophomore year (1982) when he threw for an amazing 520 yards, but we couldn't get into the end zone much, and scored only 17 points. Meanwhile, Penn State scored 52! Paterno said he didn't take the foot off the gas until well into the 4th quarter, because Flutie scared him to death.

So, as far as I know, 52 points is the record for an opponent against us on our home field.

Let's hope that Clemson doesn't get the record, and surpass 1982. And that was an exciting game, at least. We didn't feel as though we got completely pasted because of our 600+ yards of offense that day.

When Spazadufus got crushed in Blacksburg in 2009, I was absolutely ashamed - something like 45 to 7. If you were to tell me that his replacement would get crushed in the same stadium in his 4th year as Head Coach 49 to 0, I would not have believed that to be possible. That was a disgrace.

Therefore, even though it's a home game for us, it's very difficult to believe that we have a chance of respectability tonight. Real attendance will tell the story of how far we have fallen with a team ranked as high as Clemson. Fan apathy is tough to reverse, but Bates and Addazio keep doing their best to make it worse.

I hope I'm wrong and that our players go wild for Welles tonight.

Go BC - shock the college football world. Players - please be self-motivated tonight.

Let's not honor a team that didn't get to the BCS.

Ten years is much too soon to bring back a team. You have to wait until at least 20 years.

Furthermore, Coach Addazio is getting blamed for the sins of his players--particularly the ones that his predecessor recruited. I have run Coach Addazio's game plans through a simulator I designed. Coach is a clean 5-0 in game plans this season. The players underperformed by net-60 points in the Virginia Tech game. Net MINUS SIXTY!!! The simulator indicated they score first (when the player who shall go unnamed fumbled, hold Tech, score again, and then run the clock out for a 14-3 win.

So will the players step up tonight? Will they finally get the job done, to play at a level deserving of the decided schematic advantage that Coach brings to the field? Or will he have to rage at them for their failures--just like Wells Fargo management raged at the line employees who put the bank at risk?

I hope, for the players' sake, that they decide to be dudes rather than dudettes.

Jack - you'll be delighted to know that there are many very polite southerners seen on the street of boston today wearing Orange with little blue tiger paws!

I talk to one Clemson guy. A very nice southern gentlemen. He laughed and said he heard that there might be more orange than maroon & gold in Alumni tonight.

Clemson fans travel, and they travel well.

Jags could really talk a good game. He was and is quite a charmer. In the radio interview, he says that he could come back and within three years have the team relevant again. He could and can charm cats out of the tree. I'm sorry but the Dazzler has the outgoing Marine personality of TOB without the Marines and without the wins. This is year four for the Dazzler. BBs contract expires at the end of the year. BC would be smart to help him pack and bring in TC on an interim basis. Actually, BB doesn't even sail the ship. His assistant Jill Hegarty actually does the nuts and bolts. Her husband I presume runs the hockey program. She at one time was Director of Football Operations. She is a charmer in her own right. Actually, she deserves a shot at being considered for athletic director. With feedback coming from Clemson, Louisville, and Florida State, Addazio could very well be elsewhere next year and not into year 5 of one disaster after another.

Lacking any real recent success we should have a special event to honor a team that went to what bowl game? Was it a top 4 bowl game? I can't remember. Great players on the team. But it is a team sport and a second tier bowl is just that. I feel sorry for the players. They deserve more than they are getting.

They should have held the Welles game later in the year. Against Syracuse on account of the NY connection would have made sense.

This game is going to be an embarrassment and to have his name connected to it is shameful.

56-6 Clemson.

I agree knuckle, holiday weekend many students will be going home. Some two hours before game time and Shea field is empty, so much for that tail gate experience.

Henry K - are u at the game and know that Shea Field is really empty. BC must blow up the entire operation. FIRST - can u imagine the scene at Clemson before games - they do not have FOOLISH , RIDICULOUS regulations about not being able to park until 2 hours before the game.!!!!!! Going back there next year !!! I am feeling guilty about not being at the Heights ,since I have had tickets for years . I hope and think that GREAT weather and the #3 team in the nation coupled with Welles Crowther night should attract 40,000 fans. BUT BIG POINT -WHERE IS THE MARKETING IN THE BOSTON MEDIA - BC CAN NOT GET 98.5 ,WEEI etc TO TALK IT UP AND GET "SPORTS FANS" to come and watch CLEMSON !!!!!! Fire the marketing department as well as so many others !!!!! Totally unacceptable !!!!!

It's the epitome of atrocious!!!

We're going to get smoked. Fuck Addazio and Bates!!!!!!!!!

Spread is Clemson -18 and Over is 44.

Yes and Yes.

No not at the game. I'm a former season ticket holder who won't return until they fix this mess. I went on BC website and looked at Webcam's, one shows Boston skyline and Shea Field, and when I looked Shea was pretty empty, looked like more security than patrons, and it didn't look much better an hour later. My son works downtown Boston and he said downtown was crawling with Orange. Very sad, perfect night for football.

Honor the '07 Team? Please. I've said for years that team underachieved relative to their talent and the weak ACC at the time. Very lucky to win the VT and Clemson games that year - and utter choke jobs vs weaker FSU and Maryland teams. Then Beamer completely took Jags to school in the ACCCG.
Very overrated year in my opinion ' '08 team accomplished more with less.
