BC's problems going viral

Friday was a rough day for BC on the field and on the court. It wasn't much better online.

I don't think BC should overreact to this sort of stuff, but these sorts of wake up calls are valuable to a place like BC. We know Bates is out. Barring a miracle finish, Addazio should be too. Yet if our decisions makers think twice if Addazio finishes 5-7, these sorts of comments can serve as the stark reminder that BC needs a new direction.

Gave his own son a scholarship, that was enlightening, although I think I already knew the guy was a toolbag. Too bad his son needs to be pulled into this, though it sounds like other former players agreed with the tweet that scholarhip was not merited.

Jags is NOT the answer. He has stunk in every job he has had since BC and can't keep a job. Seems like a lazy guy who won't put the work in.

Also got to question the character and commitment of a guy sending a tweet lobbying for a job while coaching at another school.

Say what you want but I am loving Jag's trolling. BC deserves every bit of negativity it gets. As for the article, there's always a punching bag in every conference (usually a private school). Vandy, Northwestern, Wake, Baylor (before the last 5 years), Purdue. Might as well add BC to that list now. Every conference needs its punching bags though that the powers can beat up on. That's the biggest reason BC would never get kicked out even if it could.

I like the trolling part by Jags, but not the part where we consider him as a candidate.

We are an absolute laughingstock in the big 2 sports programs and agree that we deserve to be called out for it.

At least Daz is making progress towards the top spot on the coaches hot seat list. Now sitting at #3. Not sure how the two guys above him deserve their spots more than him, solely based on higher expectations at those schools.

jags is a douche bag. he should STFU.

No boundaries.... what is he now? some kind of spokesman for the ghost of BC played past...

BC can handle dumping DAZ without input from that mentally unstable clown.

NEWFLASH to Jags : you are never getting a sniff and never coming back to BC. u made your stupid choice years ago. Seeya.

same Luke At deCock.. what a freakin name. he too must be a wack-o

If BC doesn't make an effort to turn the ship around the ACC can simply tell BC that the other members plan to publicly ask BC to leave the conference in the best interests of the school and its athletes and until BC does so will no longer play BC in basketball or football (while agreeing to hold BC harmless financially). The adverse and humiliating PR impacts to BC of such a threat if carried through would quietly force BC to negotiate a reasonable exit from the ACC on a "voluntary" basis. Let's hope it never comes to this but we should not assume the ACC is powerless. BC needs to get off its ass. Shit happens.

Turn it around BC or get the hell out of the ACC. Tired of the embarrassment.

Why would we pay $90K to Nicholls State when we probably didn't even get $90K of ticket revenue? Can't imagine the TV rights were worth more than one dollar.

Is there some revisionist history going on here? Everyone hate Jags because he won games and made a run at the NFL, but loves Tom Coughlin because he won games and made a run at the NFL... the only difference is that this blog didn't exist to rip TC for exploring better options, and the AD never would have fired a guy for winning and bringing positive exposure to the program.

You can pretty much point to that moment as when the rest of major college sports realized BC was not interested in winning and we became a Mark.

daz-sucks-really-bad stat:

in his 4 years at BC he has beating ONE ACC team with a winning record.

Daz has lost to every ACC team except Miami and UVA - but only because he never played them

BC is embarrassing itself in major sports. That is clear as day. But so, too, is the fact that there are literally thousands of problems with Steve Addazio's approach to football, and his decision to give his son a scholarship is not one of them. The people arguing otherwise are both wrong and without class; they are a hindrance to the general argument that something might be done.

Imagine Daz self righteously arguing that now even the critics are attacking his family. Then, know that he'd be right. That's gross. Take that part pf the post down, please.

The AD in question, GDF, was an egotistical clown who simultaneously ruined the hoops and football programs by thinking he had a clue how to run those programs better than the coaches...of whom he was jealous. HE wanted the credit. Therefore, he should STILL get the blame.

Having said that, HUGE difference between Jags and Tom Coughlin. Jags inherited a team coming off a 10-3 season (9-3 the previous 2 years) with Matt Ryan at QB. Coughlin took over a team that had gone 4-7, 2-9, 3-8 the previous 3 years. Nothing obscures the argument that Addazio has run this program into the ground...or CONTINUED running it into the ground! Good times.

Point being, Coughlin left it in a better place. Jags? Not so much.

Addazio giving his kid a scholarship is such a non-story it's comical. He was a scholarship player at Syracuse, hardly a D3 backup as McCaffery states (which is ironic because he SUCKED). BC had more than enough room after Spaz's years of under recruiting, filling some depth at a blocking TE is a non-issue.

The attacks on Adazzio's son are unnecessary especially coming from a kid who wasnt really DI talent either. Recall that his son was a scholarship player at Syracuse before transferring.

All that said, the fact that there are even conversations, as unrealistic as they are, that BC could/should be booted from the ACC, is beyond humiliating. Who ever thought we would see the day. The fault is actually well spread between Leahy (who clearly doe not, nor ever did care about athletics), to Bates (the worst AD in the country) to Gene (egomaniacal assclown who forced out the two winningest coaches in BC history), to Adazzio and Christian (two horrific coaches), to the alumni (who are not vocal enough in their outrage), and lastly to the current students (apathy appears to be the norm).

This is an entire gut and rebuild job. I was shocked just as much by the stat in the article that BC has one a single ACC championship in our time in the conference, while VT and Miami have a combined 20+. Its humiliating even beyond the two high-profile sports.

Hire Tom Coughlin to be the AD. Hire Brian Kelly if ND cans him.

After over 50 years of loving BC sports; I am done.

How about a letter from all of us appealing to to Fr Leahy's Christian spirit of fairness. Ask him to appeal to the ACC to allow BC to exit the Conference without penalty in light of today's Epistle...sort of a Pauline privilege to beat our obligations re. the Grant-of Rights. St Paul, I think would admonish BC in light of the following and Fr Leahy has an obligation to perform or leave the burdened community.

"2nd Reading: 2 Thessalonians 3:7-12
All should try to earn their own living and not be burden to others
You yourselves know how you ought to imitate us; we were not idle when we were with you and we did not eat anyone’s bread without paying for it; but with toil and labor we worked night and day, so that we might not burden any of you."

The administration can then allow BC to become the androgynous, politically-correct university that the good Father envisions.

Look at the upsets this weekend where the number 2, 3, 4, teams fell to underdogs. Listen to Addazio talk how BC by losing by 40 or more cannot possibly beat a ranked team. Look at top ten teams coming to BC and playing to Half filled stadiums. Don't you think all that is known to the trustees and president. Look at their reaction. Yes, look at it. They don't care or it is what they want. Do you think the head of the trustees has ever attended a BC game this year? BC ain't what it used to be. Get used to it.

Agree with Mod34b on Jags - totally - what a jerk for tearing down BC. HE WAS A CLOWN and is still a CLOWN - actually worse that that !!!!!! A TOTAL FRAUD !!!!

Dazzlers kid would have gone to BC for free regardless of football. Employees children are admitted 99 times out of 100. Who cares if he also was on the football team.

His father is not a good headcoach.

Who is friggin Jeff Jagodinski to say BC deserves better? We deserved better when he was sneaking around behind our backs angling for the Jets job.

He is an idiot.

Deacon,
You don't know the history of TC. He was offered by the NFL the year before he left. He came back to beat Notre Dame after Lou Holtz embarrassed BC with an onside kick in a 52-7 loss.

He also got Alumni Stadium upgraded to what it is today.

He also drafted BC players for years after he left the school . . . Jaguars and Giants.

He had the best interest of the school in mind in everything he did.

bceagle91 said...

Knucklehead, you have to work at BC for at least 5 years before the kid can go tuition-free (the family still has to pay for room and board and books). That said, I'm sure he could have negotiated that into his pay package. If you're going to drop well over $2 million a year on a guy, you can find another $50k for tuition.

Just sad reading the denial on the part of the BC alums on this board to admit the obvious. BC is entirely irrelevant. Worse, they are a laughing stock. A politically correct cesspool of an institution that has entirely abandoned its roots.

Ever to be awful.

Justin Simmons (YEAH BC - Rookie) just blocked an extra point for Denver and they ran it back to win the game against New Orleans . Very happy for Simmons , but he killed me in my pool !!!!!

Very upset with the state of BC sports but to suggest getting kicked out of the league is extreme and a bit ridiculous. I tweeted as much to the DeCock guy and he basically admitted what I said. So maybe a bit of clickbait with that article. On the other hand, might not be so bad to have the media turn up the heat on BC. Maybe it'll motivate the powers to be.

My sense is that change is coming. I don't think the current poor performance is lost on the higher ups. Last year was a red flag. There was hope this year for improved performance but instead it served as confirmation that change is required. My guess is that they terminate Bates early and announce a new AD. The first order of business for the new AD will be to fire Daz. Timing will be tricky since most college coach hiring occurs in December.
