Bowman's big night not enough against ND

Ky Bowman is an ACC player. We just need about eight more like him. He scored 29 -- including 5 3-pointers -- in BC's loss to Notre Dame. To make things that much more frustrating, two of Notre Dame's BC-connected players Bonzi Colson and Matt Farrell scored 20 and 19 respectively.

Other parts of the game that felt frustratingly familiar: BC had the lead again at half and couldn't maintain it. Chatman couldn't score. BC's bigs had trouble on D. No one else stepped up to help Bowman with the scoring burden.

After the game, Notre Dame's Mike Brey had nothing but praise for Christian and the job he is doing. But I don't care what Brey thinks or what he says. These coaches are always very forgiving and patient when it is another guy losing. Other coaches made the same sort of comments about Donahue. BC has nearly a week off before taking on Florida State next Monday. I hope Christian is productive with that time. I don't know if it will make a difference at this point.

Another moral victory. Game came down to rebounding, something BC is terrible at.

JC is a great first half coach. And the laundry man in the second half: his team folds, every time

JC has taught so many players to have grit and fight to the end to win. - Problem is those players are on the other team.

Oh man.

I'm trying to sell my Falcons and BC t-shirts for .25 cents or best offer. Any takers?

The team desperately needs to add another big with their one of the two remaining scholarships (assuming nobody transfers). They've got the one 6'10 kid coming in but losing Jeffers will hurt. Tava fights, but we're getting killed on the boards playing him at the 4. Need a legit 6'8 kid with skills who can play the four on offense and fight for boards on D. Got the stop w/ 14 second left only for ND to get the offense board and kill the game off with FTs. Would've loved to see Bowman or Robinson get a chance to tie/win on the last possession.

If Christian can keep the core of this team from transferring (Bowman, Robinson, Turner, Chatman) then next year should be fun. I could see Robinson leaving if he thinks Bowman is going to be the go-to guy and wants to go where he can be The Man (and a place where more than 100 people are cheering for the home team. Yikes).

At least BC has the fan support. Lol.

Next year they may get 3 or 4 wins in the ACC!!!

It is funny to look back at what people were saying at the beginning of the year. A lot of posters on this board thought they were going to be much better than they were last year. Typical BC fans, they don't really know much about sports.

They are 200% better than last year.

The thing is, this team is much better than it was last year. And it's two best players are a freshman and sophomore, respectively. There's room for this program to grow, but we need to improve the frontcourt play.

The Ga Tech game was discouraging; last night's game was unsurprising. They're still on the right trajectory. I think a lot of people underestimate the scope of the rebuilding job that Christian was asked to take on, made all the more difficult by the impression that his hire gave in recruiting circles (i.e., that BC was unwilling to make the financial commitment needed for a successful program in the ACC).

Last year's team was unwatchable. This one is led by two guys who have very bright futures. That's not enough but it is a start.

The spinelli and Heath hires show the school is committed. Especially spinelli. He is a big time recruiter. He left Maryland on his own to come here. He is doing a very good job.

Jeffers has developed a lot this season but he still doesn't have the size for a post guy. In addition to having no size, BC's ability to block out is horrendous, which is on JC. On a side note, I find it amusing that ATL linked an article to Eddie O's recruiting wars at LSU rather than the BC game recap.

Cause LSU is awesome.

Our big guys are OK. They cannot jump though. Major problem.

We need to stop making excuses based on the "admissions standards" at BC. There are plenty of schools with academic reputations equal to or better than BC that compete in Power 5 conference basketball. Duke does it, ND does it, Stanford and UVa do it. If BC isn't willing to relax the standards for a handful of premier recruits, than they should move to the Patriot League and follow the Holy Cross model. Look at Northwestern this year...with an energetic young coach, and a few good recruits, they are on their way to 20+ wins and an NCAA berth. No one is saying We should become a basketball factory like Kentucky or Louisville. Look at the Villanova model instead. They get good talent, and give a few players the academic support some athletes need to remain eligible and graduate if they don't leave early for the NBA?
This approach doesn't hurt the overall reputation of the school, it enhances it by making the hoop program a point of pride for students and alums. BC decision makers seem to have lost that important point.

I think Gene made some bad hires that we are still trying to fix. This administration has invested heavily into the BB and fball coaching staffs. More than they have ever before. The coaches needs to produce. This may sound trite but I don't think Ky Bowman, RB from Lawrence Academy or Harold Landry are going to BC on academic scholarships. The coaches need to get more players like that. They have been given very good compensation packages and they need to earn them.
