BC gets 2018 kicker with familiar name

Addazio added a kicker to his 2018 class with Connecticut's John Tessitore. If the name is familiar it is because the Choate kicker is son of ESPN and BC's Joe Tessitore. Kickers don't usually make or break a recruiting class, but I feel like Tessitore could be a big shot in the arm. With his commitment we will get more media attention and favorable mentions from ESPN. Joe Tessitore does a good job supporting BC without crossing any lines at ESPN. Now his colleagues will have a free pass to mention John on various shows and game broadcasts.

I also think John has the chance to help Addazio build this class. He is a son of an Alum. He is a New England kid. He is a true student athlete. He can use social media and other tools to help sell other prospects.

Congrats to John and the Tessitore family. Joe called the most famous kick in BC history as a student. Let's hope John makes and even bigger kick during his time at BC.

Has all the makings of a good story. Would be nice to have a big time reliable kicker coming off the bench to win big games while his proud alum Dad describes the action from the TV booth.

Wow. Ever to promote. I knew you bled the colors through and through, but this post is awe-inspiring.

BC, hire this man!

Daz is now offering scholarships to a tiny unheralded kicker because his father is famous.? Oh boy. This not going to go well given Daz's history with kickers, extra points and FGs

C'mon, Mod. It's a feel good story. Embrace it. I usually agree with most of your posts but your constant negativity needs to take a break.

He can't be worse than what we've had. Let's give the kid a chance.

Hopefully, the Dazzler will be gone by Thanksgiving.

Georgia. Glad you feel good. I'll try to post some cute dog/cat videos. Some make even me feel good. Omg. Some are so so so cute. :-)

But the reality is that BC needs better players. And a story about giving a rich kid from a prep school in Connecticut with a famous father an offer, is not a feel good story. But BC does have a habit of admitting children of the rich and famous. So it goes

There is no media upside. This isn't a feel good story. This is BC fans desperate for something to talk about - especially if it can be twisted into being remotely positive. Kinda sad actually.

Maybe it makes sense to recruit kids from high schools that are as expensive as BC. We'll then have a team that will mirror most of the current student body. I'm going to look at some puppy pictures now.

This is an example of an incompetent trying to ingratiate himself with the media hoping it indirectly helps him. This is out of the GDF playbook. Befriend everyone at the Globe. Hire the Fenway group. Let the media profit and your employer suffer as long as you are portrayed favorably. Good press poor results A desperate tactic to try to save your job.

Guys, I would rather have a legitimate student-athlete with average athletic ability than a criminal thug who embarrasses us and will never stay past his sophomore year - assuming he ever sees the inside of a classroom

mod34b said...

Not many - if any - criminal thugs at BC. A good thing.

So choice is not between Daz's buddy's son or a thug. Lot of better choice than a unranked kicker. (In march 11 months before signing).

Truthfully all kickers are pretty unheralded except the top 2 or 3.

And we will never attract the 4&5 star recruits so don't hang the kid before his trial.

BC does attract some 4*s. Right? Not many but a few each year. But yes BC'd bread and butter is the underrated 3* not the overrated 4*

Just in case people aren't familiar with high school football anymore, Choate has had something going on for a while with their coach Spinnato. Just check out national signing day LAST year.

This year will be a similar sight. It is not cool for a bunch of adults who haven't scouted all of America to give their uninformed opinions against a 17 year old kid, one who has obviously worked hard athletically and academically to get to BC. Congratulations to John on a job well earned.
