Owens to Maryland Football

When he tweeted out a pic of himself in football cleats, I said BC should see if Garland Owens was serious about playing a new sport. It appears that Maryland took it seriously, because the former basketball player will spend his grad year playing football for the Terps.

According to reports out of Maryland, he will be playing Tight End and is just waiting on Admission's at Maryland.

I don't know if BC looked into him playing football for us. Clearly the Admissions component would have been much easier. But I don't know where Addazio is with scholarships and if he wanted to use one on a project like Owens. We have decent depth at TE and WR. Would he have made a difference? Probably not.

Good luck to Garland. Thankfully we don't have to play him this year.

Wish him well but strange. They are getting a good athlete but tantamount to a freshman with only one year of eligibility. Actually, probably worse than a freshman as he hasn't played in four years. Considering the basketball talent we have cultivated in recent years,
Addazio should look at that program as a potential source of some big athletic guys with potentially better football skills than basketball.

He graduated from BC. Taking advantage of football opportunity and graduate school opportunity.

That's a good point - he's from Maryland and this may simply be a way to get into a UMD grad school and get all or some of it paid.

Has to have good hands which is something that is lacking in BC receivers.

Good luck Garland. In 10 years I will not have remembered you played basketball at BC.

I second Napolean on this one. Good point knucklehead.

Growing up in MD, I always liked Owens. He may not have reached his potential on the court, but he always held his head high and did what was asked of him.

There is a decent amount of precedence of basketball players finding success in a grad year on the football team (Jimmy Graham, for one). I wish Owens conducted this experiment at BC, but I wish him luck, and hope to see him in the NFL a year or two down the road.

mod, stop being a cry baby. I have been confronting you directly for years. You think that is going to change now, especially when I have also been the subject of a copycat. You are the idiot. A total imbecile.

ATL, PLEASE investigate this situation. Mod has been hacked. He is one of your most loyal and knowledgeable contributors. DO YOUR JOB and remove the copy cat. Knucklehead may be rude and annoying but I doubt he is behind this.

My money's on that imbecile Tony whatever as being the imposter. Pathetically, this probably serves as the highlight of his lonely day.
