Addazio goes conservative, still gets blown out

There are many questions about BC Football right now and very few answers. One answer we did learn Saturday was that Steve Addazio learned nothing last week against Notre Dame. Faced with the decision to play aggressively and upset a heavy favorite, he once again played not to lose and punted repeatedly from Clemson territory. It kept the game close for a while, but it also handcuffed his own offense. And in the end it didn't make a difference. Clemson crushed BC again.

I am not giving up on the season, but I don't see another ACC win on the schedule. All the potential toss-ups don't look that way anymore.

I will have grades and second viewing thoughts up late Sunday.

turned the game off after the second punt on 4th and 2 in clemson territory in the 1st half. Daz is the typical pretend strong man coward. what an absolute wimp. and Clemson almost covered anyway!

Cuse just beat Central Michigan 41-17. if we win/by how much will be an interesting barometer for the Cuse matchup later this season.

that said, i circled UCONN on the calendar at the beginning of this season as Daz's potential Army game - recall in Spaz's final season it was Army beating us that seemed to finally turn the tide to "will he get fired" to "when will they do it." assuming a W vs. Central Michigan and then L's to VT, Louisville, VA, FSU and NC State, we will be 2-8 heading into the Uconn game. will the team have quit by that point? will the Daz excuse train be in full tilt?

Dillon and Brown and White at least getting meaningful reps for the next coach.

ATL, for God's sake, stop with the groundless optimism. You should be leading the charge for Daz's immediate termination. Just once, show some leadership.

Georgia: I don't think midseason firing is a good idea. Is Coach P going to turn this mess around? Hold the recruiting class together as long as you can and make a change after Cuse.

Geezer eagle said...

Really? So why do teams with winning traditions who refuse to accept failure, routinely fire their coaches in mid season? Hello Les Miles, just to give one example.

ATL_eagle said...

LSU is the perfect example. They fired without a clear plan. Couldn't get the coach they wanted and then ended up with Coach O.

Meta and Pete were complaining about large amounts of criticism. If of the players very wrong
and unfair. If of DAZZLE-NOT it shades to Shilling for Leahy and co.
Criticism of troops in Vietnam war very unfair of leadership perfectly on target.
Things WILL STAY LOUSY and DEPRESSING UNTIL "THE HEIGHTS are liberated from SPAZDAZIO !!!

Unlike us, they still have a winning program with solid recruits. How bad would we lose to them this year?
Daz and his program, his recruits, and his coaching, are total failures. He must go now. We are already at Rock bottom. Regroup and start over from scratch.
Please, my friend, stop trying to put lipstick on this hopeless pig.

Bravesbill said...

That's such a weak excuse ATL. The recruiting class is gone regardless of when Daz is fired. Like I've mentioned before, if kids are going to leave, they're going to leave. It doesn't matter when the coach is fired. Unless you want to fire Daz after signing day which would be terribly dumb. Plus, seriously, does it even matter if BC loses recruits at this point given the low quality recruits they have?

Bravesbill said...

On another note, you knew the game was over when Daz turtled and called R-R-R-P when BC got the ball with the chance to go ahead. Clemson got the ball back and the rest is history.

Geezer eagle said...

ATL continues to be a Daz apologist
Just mind boggling.

Loeffler can leave anytime, as far as I'm concerned.

How can you call plays like that?

No moral victories here. This isn’t anywhere close to “Ever to Excel”.

Clown show got to go. Time to sprinkle paper clips on a desk in Bristol, Daz.

All things considered, I think Petrulo is doing pretty well in Baker's place. True Freshman studying Finance, not Tourism.

Geezer eagle said...

John/JBQ, you and ATL continue to fiddle while Rome burns. Please take off the blinders.

John said...

Georgia Eagle- I hate Addazio's shit show and will not be sorry to see him go.

We've been going downhill since 2009 and I like to see it change soon.

Meanwhile, I'll always root for players, especially young guys just getting to college and trying to figure it all out, never mind starting against Clemson at a position you have never played.

JBQ said...

@Georgia Eagle: Since I am Irish, fiddling is a compliment. I would like to see Daz gone yesterday. However, you have to look at things from Leahy's Ivory Tower. That three year extension is like an albatross. With the original contract, he could have been fired with no repercussions. The extension changes that. Actually, I think that he will be back next year. The team is looking better. For three quarters, they held the number two team and defending national champion to a standstill on their home field.----I have stopped letting it bother me. Leahy has a socialist agenda with an acknowledged Communist Jesuit superior general in Sosa (not the baseball player who is bleaching his skin). It is all about social justice and not wins. The Dazzler is giving them what they want at the highest point on the Heights.---Leahy will just not eat 7.5M in liability. I think that Jarmond will give him one more year with a clear set of benchmarks that will be used to fire him after next year.

CT said...

The Daz experiment is over.

This is just Purgatory.

He is wholly unfit to coach with the big boys. I mean, yeah, Clemson should kick the FG (championship game). Right.

Next.

Geezer eagle said...

JBQ, perish the thought. You just described the nightmare scenario. I agree with you about Leahy. Let's pray Jarmond turns out to be more than a social justice hire.

Unknown said...

Didn't Leahy have to approve the absurd , dumb extension.? If so he bears the responsibility!

XPhaktor said...

Those kids fought their asses off today and every single chance for momentum was blunted by the scared coaching tactics of the rudderless leadership. The punter just got himself drafted. The secondary was aggressive to the ball. The defensive line held their own in the trenches for almost three quarters. That is on the players. The offense? Predictable and bland. No wrinkles. No opportunities for Brown to use his athleticism. Power, dive, dive power for the running game. Clemson was dying to be upset today and the coaching staff on offense ensured the game for Clemson by repeatedly putting the game in the hands of the defense that slowly tired and broke after all the conservative playcalling that kept them on the field. I said last week that an interim coach would be aggressive, take chances and let his athletes make plays. Who knows the outcome if the Eagles had a guy in control that was...you know, in control.

There has been a bit of a recent trend of mid-season HC dismissals but for the most part most schools wait until the end of the season unless they think there is a solution from within or if they still have aspirations to turn around the season. BC does not fall into either of the two categories so Daz will likely finish the season.

Just because BC waits does not mean that Jarmond is not already developing his short list. I am quite sure that he already has his top picks in mind. I am also quite sure that Leahy has given authority to Jarmond to drop Daz assuming that he continues to underperform or else Jarmond would have never accepted the job since hiring a HC is the signature stamp that any AD can make during his tenure.

BC has ample dollars to buyout Daz and they now have a new AD to recruit and sign a new HC. The only thing that saves Daz at this point is a winning record of 7-5 or better and the chances of going 6-2 over the next 8 games is slim and none.

CT said...

The only non-dude is the HC.

Ha. What a scam.

Loser:

“We battled hard, we were physical, we wanted to drag them into the fourth quarter — we dragged them into the fourth quarter,’’ BC coach Steve Addazio said.

Loser, part 2:

“I’m very, very concerned right now, with the amount of injuries we have right now and what we just took in this game,’’ Addazio said. “I don’t know the extent of them right now. I just have to get my arms around where we are. It seems like every week, we have to restart something.’’

The only fucking loset is you and your son.

Daz is right. He is getting hammered with injuries.

Brownie and the O are real deal ACC talents that Daz recruited. Next year BC is going to be hot. Hell we toook the Natty Champ in Death Valley to the mat for 3Q. We scared those birches good.

I am surrounded by fucking morons, ncluding Georgia Eagle who has become a whiny bitch and (S)T(D)GS

I don't care how close they were for most of the game, they still got blown out on the score board and that's what matters. It doesn't matter when Clemson scored the points, the point is that they scored enough to still blow out BC. BC football is a joke.

14-7 then it spirals out of control like Notre Dame.
When they went down I said let's see how they respond. They didn't. Just like their HC makes excuses they gave up.

Dazzler needs to go.

BC 86 said...

Left the notre dame game in third quarter demoralized, flying back from Clemson now, proud of our football players and fans at game

Geezer eagle said...

Knucklehead,
Most likely the same shit-heal who drove Mod34 away. Just ignore him. We know who he is.

John said...

How can ATL allow another person to register under the same name - "knucklehead"? That in itself is not right and a serious flaw in the registration process if true.

knucklehead said...

GE, Right on. Not going going anywhere.

Frankie said...

LOL, well said

TGS said...

BC 86 being proud is a great indication of how far BC has fallen. There was a time we expected to beat good teams, not just stay close for three quarters before getting blown out.
Christ, just ten years ago we were #2 in the damn country, now we have fans proud of losing by 27.

knucklehead said...

The concern I have with that game was that we fell apart after it was 14-7. . . Like I said yesterday before we gave up the lead. Letting it get from 14-34 or whatever it ended up being is pathetic. Just like Dazzler had excuses for everything the players gave up.

Walter said...

Haven't posted in a while here but pretty disappointed with BC football. I really liked Daz's enthusiasm at first, especially given that many/all people see BC as a stepping stone and nothing more. I give Daz credit for seeming like this was truly where he wanted to be.

However it's just not enough. When I was at BC (matt ryan years) it felt like we were in every game. That has not been the case anymore, and it feels like EVERY game there is questionable timeout management and a dedication to a run game that just isn't there.

It's time for a change. I would love to know how we rank in terms of money spent on head coaches vs results on the field. We have the resources and location to compete and there just have not been any results.

JBQ said...

@Walter: Hear! Hear! Good to hear you back.

Geezer eagle said...

Walter,
Wise words of wisdom. You summed it up nicely.

knucklehead said...

Right. But everyone there seems to have an excuse or a gripe. Jarmond goes on ESPN and the tonality of the conversation on the sideline was negative. From him and the reporter.

Too many crybabies managing things over here now between Leahy ie Mr.Apathy, Dazzler, Christian and Jarmond.

It is going to be a long haul if we dont hire A+ level coaches. With management focused on $$ I don't foresee good hires coming in.

dixieagle said...

Walter, exactly right. We are getting 0 bang for a lot of bucks.

TGS said...

Surprising some are just now realizing the Daz is a lost cause. He is now in his 7th season as a head coach. All time record is 38-41. He most assuredly (if allowed to finish the year) will end up below .500 in 2017. This will mean 3 seasons out of 7 with more losses in wins, while compiling a 7-6 record in three other seasons.
As I've said before, he should have been gone after Wake fiasco in 2015.
If it were up to me, I'd have fired him after he lost a bowl game to a Penn State team with practically no scholarship players.
So welcome aboard the anti Daz train Walter, but what took you so long?

JBQ said...

Let's change the rhetoric and look at what Matt Ryan did today. The game with the Lions was one of the most bizarre on record. Detroit had first and goal from the one after PI in the end zone. On fourth down from the one, Stafford threw a touchdown or so everyone thought. The play was reviewed and the receiver had his knee down short of the end zone. There were eight seconds left and then there was a ten second run off.---Mattie is now 3-0. There was one bizarre penalty after another in the last 30 seconds. Kind of beats worrying about what is happening now at BC. Mattie is big time and once upon a time so was BC. It could happen again. You just have to believe as corny as it sounds.

Steve Addazio is the Jeff Fisher of college football. Look at Jeff Fisher's career coaching record.
