Denis makes All America team and other links

Congrats to Lukas Denis who was named to the Camp All America Second Team. I know BC has always developed and scouted well, but I do think Addazio's hit rate on underrated talent has been pretty good. Denis was only a two star and BC was his only Power 5 offer.

Although there are not many spots left, BC is still in the mix with a few different New Jersey prospects

Dillon mentioned among the ACC's best running backs.

If Vine does come back, Addazio will be ready.

Congrats to Lukas!

As for Daz as recruiter, note thstBC currently has the lowest avg stars for its 2018 class recruits among all of P5 teams. The bottom of the barrel.

Yes Daz has recruited some good players. But he is not a good overall recruiter on a class-wide basis. Let’s stop that myth. TOB was a far better recruiter - to offer a contrast.

The guy from NJ and the Lawrence Academy link have improved the player quality. More wins will improve it further. Meaning the players and coaches both need to perform better. Mantra of someone very successful in the industry.

They need to recruit a field goal kicker pronto, tonto.

You also have to keep in mind that when a kid accepts an offer from BC his recruiting ranking goes down. As compared to the Clemson’s and FSU’s of the world, where the kids ranking shoots through the roof. If kids like Denis and Lamot prove anything it’s that “gold stars” are overrated

Congratulations to Mr. Dennis and to his coaches.

Speaking of Lamot, I'm still wondering about his status and availability since he was injured in the Syracuse game.

I hope he's okay, but I have not seen any information. That guy is good!

Denis - sorry.

NYCEagle, i get that an offer from Clemson or the SEC often results in a recruit getting stars added.

But enough of this whine that only BC recruits lose stars. What about recruits from Kansas, Rutgers, Syracuse, Iowa State etc. do they lose stars too?

As it is, BC average recruit rating is below these teams - even with a great second half of 2107 season

NYCEagle said...

I think on a national scale BC’s reputation is more tarnished than any of those names, with the exception of Rutgers. People still relate this team to the 2015 0 for 8 in the ACC conference team

NYCEagle said...

An objective rating for a high school player should be weighted more towards his tape than his offers and I’m not sure that’s the case all the time

Heights said...

NYCEagle, you are crushing it. Nice name.

NYCEagle said...

To further prove that point, a high school recruit by the name of AJ Dillon was once downgraded from 4 stars to 3 stars on several recruiting services upon announcing he was decommitting from UMICH to come to BC! Think Michigan doesn’t regret telling him he was a linebacker not a running back?

NYCeagle. very unpersuasive points.

Mod
I agree with your overall point that Daz is a bad recruiter (with a few obvious exceptions like Dillon), but I disagree with your reliance on recruiting services and star rankings to prove your overall point. Those services are a joke. We’ve had many 2 and 3 star recruits who have become all stars at BC and even in the NFL.

If you want to show that Daz is a bad recruiter, just point to the offensive dumpster fire of 2015, his record of embarrassing blowout losses, and his 1-13 record against ranked teams. Those are all indicators of a pervasive talent gap.

Knucklehead said...

And his offensive line getting straightened out due to injury. Bottom line for the turnaround this season.

mod34b said...

Tim. I agree that the recruiting ranking are quite flawed, but they do provide a general, rough metric to compare programs. And I agree, seeing how the recruits actually perform is the best metric

CT said...

You stick Hilliman behind that line and there is no turnaround.

Matt said...

The recruiting should be better but there is no question that this team has talent and now in year 5 it’s all Addazio’s guys so you have to give him some credit. It’s not a bottom of the power 5 roster as one commenter suggested. We crushed three ACC teams this year despite losing several starters. You don’t do that without having talent and depth.

To say O’Brien was a much better recruiter is crazy...that’s some serious revisionist history.

True three star student-athletes should gravitate to elite FSB schools like BC, Stanford, Northwestern, and the military academies. To shun these schools runs the risk of spending their careers on the bench if they choose the football factories. Why Don't the coaches , parents, and players see the obvious?

Geezer eagle said...

In other words, go to BC and become a possible star or go to Ohio State and risk sitting on the bench. Wake-up, recruits.

Knucklehead said...

CT, No. Another planet zippy comment. He had his best year since 2014. Not sure how he gets a 5th season.

njbcfan said...

Or go to Ohio State where you can compete for a National Championship.

Knucklehead said...

They do Georgia. But you have to do homework and the play isn't as good on multiple levels.

Geezer eagle said...

NJ, are you obtuse? Did you understand anything I was trying to point out?

CT said...

3.8 yds per carry vs Dillon’s 5.3.

Ok champ. Watch the games.

CT said...

And he-Hilliman-ran the ball 100 times in the first 6 games. Plenty of chances. He avgd. less than 3.5 yds per carry.

Dillon does need to learn how to catch the ball.

Never said the oline didn’t play better. But Dillon’s big play ability coupled with his speed and physicality changed everything. This blog sucks. Congrats. Take your meds.

Dillon changed everything..GO BC

Go eagles. Keep crushing it!!!

Knucklehead said...

No CT. The discussion was about Hilliman. He had his best year in 3 years with this line. Plus the line wasn't straightened out until the 4-5 game. Wake up and stop blaming others for your whatever your problem is.

CT said...

The 4-5 game was when Dillon took over.

Yes, Hilliman had his best year in three years. By 100 yds or so. I just will never believe you actually watch any games. Stick to Latin?

But these days you can’t back off once you’ve dug in. I get it.

That is correct. It is also when Bakers replacement Petrula started to take effect. That injury and line change was the key. Yes Dillon is legit. With zero line(pre Petrula getting acclimated - week 4/5) Dillion is not as good.

Hilliman. Yards per carry way up. Eye test, receptions have been best in career. Maybe one turnover.

Watch everything. Read everything. You name it.

Boston Herald(Good, fair and consistent coverage of the Eagles). Chapter 11. The moderate/conservative alternative to Globe might be on the way out. They should go online exclusively during the week and distribute on Saturday and Sunday. How about that for an on the fly corporate restructuring/business plan?

John said...

We're there any other changes that took place in addition to AJ Dillon and the maturation of Been Petrula in his new role?

Did Frye abandon schemes that weren't working/were too complicated?

Just wondering - quite a turnaround.

Also, with all due respect to Jon Baker, he may have a tough time cracking the starting lineup next year if he comes back. I hope he does as we need his leadership too, as well as veteran depth.

John said...

Man, if you don't check auto-correct, it's brutal. ☺️

NYCEagle said...

We’re going to have 7 starting offensive lineman fighting for 5 spots with Baker and Elijah Johnson coming back. I sense a lot of jumbo sets being implemented with 6 offensive lineman or a lineman lined up at fullback
