BC can't hang on against FSU

It is fitting that the regular season finale played out the way it did. So much of what happened had been previewed with each game. That meant lots of turnovers late, an extremely thin bench, all scoring comes from the Big 3, Christian has no answer as the lead slips away, etc. Despite leading most of the game, BC could not answer Florida State late as the 'Noles won 85-76.

Because of injury, BC's thin bench got even thinner. Hopefully the team recovers or Tuesday could be the end of the season.

This is splitting hairs, but as a freshman who wore an earring to broadcast my first women’s basketball game in 1996, the late/great Dick Kelley from the athletic department told me I could broadcast games or wear an earring but I couldn’t do both. Each time Christian had a meeting with FSU’s coach and the refs down the stretch, I thought about that comment in regard to Christian never wearing a tie. Coach Hamilton looked put together and his team played that way down the stretch. Clearly just wearing s tie wouldn’t add 5 wins to this season, but I think it’s not too much for the athletic department to ask/put in our head basketball coaches contract. As it stands the casual look ain’t getting it done either.

Al Skinner often did not wear a tie. Mike Brey never wears a tie. Neither does Tommy Amaker at stuffy Harvard. Bob Huggins wears a windbreaker. This is 2018, not 1968. Personally, I think coach's should just wear golf shirts like they do in the Maui Invitational, but that's just me.

On another front, BC's RPI is now 100. Given that the NIT field is only 32 teams, and every conference champ who slips up in their conference tourney and is not selected to the NCAA tourney as an at large is guaranteed a spot in the NIT, I don't think they are getting in without at least two wins in the ACC tourney, and maybe three. Syracuse, ND, Louisville, Nebraska, Penn State, Davidson, Ok State, Utah, Stanford, Oregon, Washington, Alabama, Georgia, Miss State, Marquette, BYU....there are a boatload of teams that are in line for NIT spots ahead of BC. BC could enter the CBI tournament if they are looking for extra practice time and to continue their season, but many schools do not participate in that because it is usually a money loser. Teams have to pay to enter that, and the games are played in empty arenas against non descript mid majors from God knows where. A BC-South Dakota CBI matchup would not exactly move the needle.

I'm not worried about a dress code. I'm worried about wins.

It’s not about the tie, it’s about stature and presence. JC lacks both. Nice guy, but light on leadership qualities. Gym rat.

Christian is a schlub - with or with a tie

Al Skinner was a mega winner without a tie. Christian has lost Deonate and Steffon.
The remainder would probably not make ACC teams.
If Hawkins gets a red shirt and Robinson returns we could be very good 3rd or 4th ACC.
Should Jarmond decide to replace JC I'd take a gamble and go with Jared Dudley ,
Danya Abrams and Howard Eisley. Dudley Abrams BC front court greats Eisley back court.
Recruiting would be fantastic. And if I'm right and we win big I think loyalty to BC
and a good salary would keep them on the Heights.
Hurley of Rhode Island another possibility

I agree - JC looks fine. I'd rather see a smile once in a while and more courtside energy than a tie. These are kids, relatively speaking, he is coaching and he needs to light a fire and keep it positive. But all irrelevant compared to wins and losses. He's most fortunate to have earned another year with a mere 5 extra conference wins compared to where he stood at the beginning of the season (i.e., 2-34 in the last two years in ACC). He and his staff have a terrific opportunity next season - let's see if they can make the most of that opportunity by applying their skills and making substantial progress in the W-L column such that nobody will give a crap about wardrobes and courtside demeanor.

What an silly outdated sentiment to have the coach wear a tie. I don't give a sh*t what Dick Kelly said. Just b/c he said it doesn't means there is any merit to the ideaa. More proof that BC and its fans are backward and narrow minded.

Instead of giving Christian another year to prove once again he’s not a legit power 5/ACC caliber coach, imagine what a long term solution would do with the roster he’d be inheriting next year on the Heights.

Our program is a joke...

JC and staff will get next season to move the dial well beyond 7-11 in conference and reward BC's patience. If not - then the patience will have surely run out. Not sure what Jarmond's expectations will be for next year - probably NIT and a deep run in that tournament at a minimum. I think we are treading water with JC - truly hope he proves me wrong.

BC needs the tourney next year. Interest is back, home court advantage is back. They have the talent to match up 5 on 5 against anyone in the conference. Just lacked the depth to put games away and execute without their core 5 guys on the floor.

Speaking of Al... how is his science project going down at Kennesaw State? After year 3 the wins are the same, but I have not seen any tape. His style should translate well to the A-Sun, but he needed some time to build that program and get some scholarship worthy players in.

Skinner's three seasons at KSU:
10-20 6-8
14-18 7-7
11-20 7-7

Always wondered why no other major program picked him up. Was it the Ryan piece? Or was it generally believed that his best years were due more to having Coen and Cooley by his side? It's easy to look back fondly after experiencing the Donahue and early Christian years.
