Cutting through the bowl projections

Although some sites have had them all season, everyone is now releasing bowl projections (CFN and SI). Don't get caught up in it. There are two scenarios. Win the division and we play in either the Peach/Gator/Orange. Lose the division (even if it is only two losses) and we are going to a December Bowl that we won't be very excited about. Some put a higher value on the Champs Bowl. I don't. It would be nice for the players but we wouldn't travel any differently than we would for Music City or San Fran.

ATL - I think there is a third scenario not beyond the realm of possibility:

Win out the regular season (3-0) and lose to VTech in the ACC Championship. I know, as Stewart Mandel explains, the BCS doesn't look too favorably on conference championship game runners up, but there is a possibility that we get a BCS at large at 11-2 (Fiesta / Sugar).

Our numbers are still fairly strong. #8 in polls, #6 according to the BCS computers. #4 RPI and #11 SOS.

The other thing to note is that 3 Big XII teams are ahead of us in BCS standings. Its likely that 2 of the 3 fall below BC before its all said and done (Kansas plays Mizzou, and winner plays OU).

There are 4 at-large BCS berths this year. Hawaii is still on the outside looking in at BCS #16. So you can count on the 4 at-large berths going to BCS conference teams. Big 10 / Big East teams probably won't get an at-large, leaving Big XII, Pac 10, ACC and SEC to fight over the 4 at-large spots.

Before everyone jumps on me for looking ahead, just note that I'm throwing this out as a possibility. I'm not counting on it or even looking forward to it.

Go Eagles! Beat the Terps!

"Beat the Terps" is right on. This is what we must do. We know what is at stake here. We are aspiring to win our division and to win the ACC Championship.

In order to do that, we must beat Maryland - and a convincing win would be very nice. Some fans say that The Terps have packed it in - and I say, not so fast. They have had injuries and I don't know if any of those key players are going to be available for BC. They want to stop their losing streak at our expense!

Dunbar and Pruitt are out - so when you think about it, we are without 5 of our top players - Toal, Raji, Poles, Dunbar and Pruitt. We are really going to need Dunbar and Pruitt against Clemson and Miami.

So we have to beat Maryland in their house with a depleted defense. We need to be up for this game - and mad as hell. Let's go BC - beat MD!!!!!!

College Gameday is going to the Williams-Amherst game. Not a win for BC, but I think a great gesture for college football traditions outside the BCS.
