Louis-Jean declares for NFL Draft

BCI first tweeted it out, but Albert Louis-Jean declared for the NFL Draft. On the surface it is a curious move since ALJ never lived up to his high school recruiting ratings and never showed NFL potential in his two seasons at BC. But given the hot water he had with coaches (suspended for Nova and missing the Bowl), there is probably more to this story. Maybe he and his family decided to roll the dice on the NFL instead of transferring somewhere. He only has two years remaining and transferring would eat up one more year of playing time.

As a non-factor in the secondary, I don't think this will impact the 2014 season. I also don't think this is the end of things. There will be more attrition as guys who were recruited by Addazio Spaz start to look for greener pastures. I also think there will probably be another guy or two who is buried on the depth chart that decide to explore other options.

Best of luck to ALJ. I don't expect him to catch on with an NFL team, but I've been wrong about these things before.

I am not worried about ALJ's injury

Sophomore Albert Louis-Jean suffered foot injury and will miss several games. Obviously this is not good news, but it is not the end of the world either. ALJ has a lot of potential, but he was just okay last year. I think Asprilla was a better true freshman. I think we'll be fine with Jones, Williams or even moving Noel back to corner. The key to the defense this year will be pressure up front. It won't be about our corners.

I hope ALJ makes a full recovery and comes back better than ever. I also hope that if the recovery is slow, that he redshirts. We've been burned too often with guys coming back too soon.

BC Eagles United launch, Media Day follow up and other links

BC launched a new portal website for their social media called BC Eagles United. Currently it serves as a hub for all of BC's Athletics social media sites and will have games and other rewards opportunities. I don't know if it will take off, but I applaud BC's effort to create a new way to promote BC sports.

Outside of Pantale, Rettig was the main focus of Media Day (Globe and Herald).

Our Brockton DBs have been playing together for five years. Brian Miller and Bobby Vardaro also received coverage from their local paper.

Tom Coughlin and the Jay Fund gave out a college scholarship to a Florida girl. Of course the highlight of her day was meeting Herzy.

We need some young offensive linemen to emerge. Perhaps Bobby Vardaro will be one of those names. If Richman is out a while, the redshirt freshman could start this season.

KPL expects BC to win the conference.

Everyone is saying the right thing about Montel's return, but reading that he is still icing his knee multiple times a day worries me.

This ACC preview does not mention any BC-related storylines.

Ron Brace is missing key practices as he recovers from surgery. Hopefully he will have a big year with the Patriots.

Can Andre Williams get enough carries this year? I actually think it has less to do with Montel and more to do with our offensive line and WRs. If BC shows any improvement in the passing game, it will allow for longer drives and more possessions, which would mean more touches for Williams.
