NC State thoughts

Nice win. NC State is not nearly as good as they were last season, but it is still an ACC road win. Also glad to see Dudley back. Here are my thoughts on the game:

-- Dudley moved well considering his foot. Based on how he described the problem in the Globe, I am concerned that he will miss more time. The biggest difference he made was playing the key when NC State went to zone. Over the past few years, Jared's been the baseline runner against zones with Craig in the key. We tried plugging Spears into Smith's role against zones, but he doesn't have Craig's hands (yet). On Saturday, Dudley went to the middle and we were able to attack and score. A nice adjustment by the staff.

-- One of Sean Marshall's best games. He needs to be closer to the boards, since he is a very good rebounder for a 2 guard. But it should be noted that even on a "hot" day, he went 9 for 22.

-- Rice improving as a PG. Another solid day and he can handle pressure now.

-- Spears' turnovers remain costly. He needs to do a better job of anticipating passes and holding onto the ball.

Now let's continue the solid play against Wake.

-Saw the first half, and then went upstairs figuring the game was in the bag
-Read the recap on Yahoo and noticed that Marshall had the double-double. I was happy about that. But 9 for 22 on FG's and 3-7 from the 3pt line. At least he made his free throws
-Nice pickup Eagle
