Friday links: the Flynn Fund

BC proudly announced a record fundraising effort for the Flynn Fund. This is affirmation for Gene D. and the Athletic Department's controversial movement to Donor Based Seating. I also think it speaks well for changing the culture of BC sports from casual to more engaged, passionate fans. I’ve never given to the Flynn Fund and always steered my donations to the school’s BC Fund. However, I may change that policy and will have more background on the Flynn Fund on this blog later this summer.

Here’s an update and interview with some of our recent football commits.

Bill, I think the increase can also be attributed to the fact that O'Brien is finally gone and Jags has breathed new life into the program. Also, those who donated to the Flynn Fund received first priority for ND tickets for South Bend. That was the main reason why I donated.

Have they already released info about ND tickets? I haven't heard anything and I have student tickets still.. and my parents are season ticket holders and haven't heard anything...

I'm guessing all FF basketball season tickets are sold out for 07-08?

Season ticket holders (non-students) rec'd a mailing back in early May about all away games. I think the window has already closed, since they said they will be holding an ND ticket lottery and sending emails to the winners during the 3rd week of July. We're hoping to have a caravan of Eagle backers in South Bend.

Today BC added another commitment. 3 star WR Colin Larmond out of NJ... ranked the 12th best player out of NJ...

Flynn Fund donations went up ecause that was the only way to keep tickets for hoops and football. There are going to be plenty of old folks who had season tics for 20+ years that gave them up because of the 'donation' request. The ND tics were a lottery so even if you paid into the FF you might not get anything- but the money went in up front. I would not mind if we got anything extra for the donation but you do not even get a media guide with this donation and are still not guaranteed good parking for either sport. The home schedule this year is a little suspect as well- it is fun to watch your team win but not as much when it is against non ACC teams Army , UMass and Bowling Green. I am still debating the pros and cons of the GTech trip because the last time down there it was hotter than the sun and they ran out of water and soda! (BC did win though which is all that matters)
