ATL_eagle Scouting Service, Part 3

This looks at the two probable first rounders.

Gosder Cherilus, OT

The scout's take: Great frame, good power, natural leader...needs help in pass protection, prone to mental lapses.

My take: Gos did not have a good senior year, but he's still capable of good things at the next level. Before the move to the left side, Gos was excellent at RT in 2005 and 2006. If he stays on the right side in the NFL he can be great again. The scouting report also mentions his mental lapses. In 2006 the mistakes were a nuisance. In 2007 they were an embarrassment. Hopefully maturity will cure this bad habit. I also agree with the scouting report...Cherilus is average in pass protection. Gos can live up to his potential in the NFL. The only thing that might hold him back is his focus.

Matt Ryan, QB

The scout's take: Great frame and leadership capabilities...lacks arm strength, forces plays.

My take: At this point, I've said it all. Matt is not perfect but he is a damn good QB. If I have any complaint it is that he is a little too pumped up early in the game and often takes a series or two to settle down. Like Gos, maturity will be a big factor in overcoming this tendency.

2 in the first round is a distinct possbility: would be first time since 2002 with Green and Colombo.

I really hope it works out for Gos- would be nice to see his returning year rewarded on draft day.

Good for Rutgers, not giving in to ND... do the Fighting Irish not want to play one real AWAY game? This football program is becoming a joke

Good for Rutgers for speaking up.

But before you criticize big, bad ND, also remember that it takes two to tango, and UCONN did have a choice to do what Rutgers did and say no.

From what I gather, there were no guns held to heads.

As long as the plebians keep buying into the media driven Notre Dame propaganda there will be a silent acceptance of these ridiculous neutral site games.

Notre Dame football disgusts me. It is the perfect storm of arrogance, greed, and mediocrity. Not to mention one of the root causes for the current BCS system.
