Clearing up the latest Globe article

The Globe had another update. Parts were spot on. Others were off. I'll do my best to clear up which is which.

1. Spaz is clearly the favorite. In fact, in my opinion the process and short timeline stacks the deck in his favor.

2. London and Holtz will be interviewed. I am surprised the Holtz thing got out. It had been floating prior to this report, but I figured he'd be more careful keeping his name out of the press given his own recruiting needs.

3. Norvell and Addazio are highly unlikely to even get interviewed. I don't know why Blaudschun even included their names. Not that they couldn't be good candidates, but unless they hop on planes to somewhere on the East Coast this weekend, they are not going to fit into the interviewers schedule.

4. There are other candidates getting interviewed who haven't been leaked. My guess is BC is protecting their recruiting efforts in the case that they don't get the job.

At the end of the day the main focus of the article is right -- all signs are pointing to Spaz.

Earlier this week, the EI publisher posted on the pay board saying Norvell and Addazio were going to be the first outsiders to interview. Blaudschun might be talking to the same people.

The Globe article pool is smaller than first thought line is meant to keep hopes down about an outside hire. Some people really want to this end quickly to get the spotlight pointed at someone other than themselves. Where is the gutsy AD now?

Can anyone tell us why Spaz would not be the favorite and ultimately land the job? I keep hearing this echo from the last search that there were reasons he was passed over...what could or might have been those reasons? If it's his age, I think that sucks. Or is BC trying to get a young guy who's currently a head coach, or grab another NFL guy because that attracts kids from the blue chip level? Are we looking for a Pete Carroll type? Someone else's Frank Leahy? An understudy of a reigning genius? Obviously it's impossible to measure a "BC Lovability Index" and all the intangibles--but if we could what exactly would the Dream Coach look like? Just askin'...

I think Gene is looking for someone who's a good coach but is also personable and willing to be the face of the program. I'm not sure that's Spaz.

B-ball and Hockey both lose again.

Its the "Curse of Jags". We haven't won a men's BB or Hockey game since our AD fired Jags.

BTW what's with interviewing Lou Holz's kid? The "Sins of the Father" are not the sins of the son? Was Gene here when Lou pulled his infamous onside kick? [grin]

Why would Addazio need to jump on a plane? Can't Gene interview him and any other candidate at the coaches convention tomorrow in Nashville?

Speaking of hockey, I went to an AHL game tonight and Cory Schneider was in the net for Manitoba. He gave up one goal and that included a 5 minute overtime and a shootout. He looked phenomenal and I'm guessing he will get a shot at the NHL.

Herzy endorsed Spaz and that's good enough for me. Clearly he can recruit as the defense has had some talented players these past few years.

@ Eagleboston

Schneider has already played for the Canucks this season. I watched him get put in vs. my Flyers and he only gave up 1 goal. Did a phenomenal job.
