Once you start playing Top 10 teams, you get more attention. First CBS talks about the game (thanks to Phil for the link) and Yahoo weighed in too.

Tranquill's turn in the spotlight as the Globe and the Virginia media profiled him.

The Notes section of this article reports that McCluskey should be back on the field Saturday.

Here is the H Dinch BC prediction list for 2009 (so far). She is 1-2 in BC ACC game predictions (3-2 overall on BC predictions). Let's hope she will be 1-3 after this week.

Week 6

Virginia Tech 24, Boston College 21 (OT) -- It’s supposed to rain, and we all know what happens when it rains in Lane Stadium -- the Hokies win. Virginia Tech’s defense will show up for this one and force Dave Shinskie into 25-year-old freshman mistakes.

Week 5

Florida State 24, Boston College 21 -- Those within the program seem convinced they’re better than they have played this season, and it’s not a question of talent or speed. It’s a matter of immaturity and costly mistakes. If the Noles have any pride, Bobby Bowden said this week, they’ll be ready for this one.

Week 4

Wake Forest 17, Boston College 14: This is the kind of game that will involve something along the lines of a blocked punt for a touchdown, or some other non-offensive way of scoring. BC’s defense isn’t the problem, but the issues at quarterback will be too much to overcome.

Week 3

Clemson 21, BC 17: Clemson has better athletes, more team speed and a better overall skill level, but don’t underestimate Frank Spaziani’s defense. It should be a better game than some might think, but the Tigers have home-field advantage, have found consistency at quarterback and found many positives in their loss to Georgia Tech.

Week 2

Boston College 31, Kent State 10: If they did it last week, there’s no reason the Eagles can’t do it again and start off 2-0. It will help to have starting right tackle Rich Lapham back, as he missed last weekend’s game against Northeastern with an injury. That makes four of five starters back up front from a year ago, and the Eagles’ offensive line has an average height of 6-foot-6 and they weigh an average of 306 pounds -- a total of 1,530 pounds.

WEEK 1

Boston College 28, Northeastern 7: Northeastern finished 2-10 last year, and, like BC, is breaking in a new quarterback. Still, the Eagles have enough pieces in place on the offensive line, at running back, wide receiver and in the secondary to keep this a textbook opener. Plus, with Frank Spaziani coaching, you know you’ll get the most out of the defense, even if some of it is in a rebuilding mode.

I seem to remember a different outcome last time I watched a rainy BC-VT game in Lane Stadium. Plus, I think Shinkie and the rest of the team is getting pretty used to playing in the rain this season. I'll be suprised if BC pulls this one off, but "rain" is a pretty lazy rational, HD.

I would have taken Stewart Mandel's prediction of a loss more seriously had he got our starting QB's name right.

Thank you, Eddie George, for picking BC on Yahoo. I'll ignore the fact that you confidently said the weather will be "no rain, and in the mid-fifties," when weather.com says that it will be 62 degs. and a 90% chance of rain at kickoff. I like your style, my man. Pull it out of your ass and hope it sticks.

As much as we sometimes rip on the OC for some (a lot) of the conservative play calling this season, it is interesting to hear how there do seem to be a lot of things he would like to do but doesn't feel comfortable with. Wonder how we would have handled the second halves of the last two games had they come later in the season when the offense had progressed a little further and Tranq had more sets and plays that he thought we had a very firm grasp on.

Something tells me, we will get to find out....
