More awards for Lombardi and other links

As you would expect, Matt Lombardi won the 2010 Hockey East Tournament Most Valuable Player award. Muse won the goalie of the week award.

Future Eagle Kevin Noreern keeps racking up the player of the year honors in Minnesota.

BC is one of many schools recruiting 2011 QB Christian Suntrup.

Lenny Walls is still hanging on and playing very well in the CFL. Good for him.

I'm thrilled with the success of BC Hockey the past two weeks. I do question what Muse did to win the award other then being on the winning team. Not only giving up 6 goals, but for the life of me I don't remember him making a big stop in the final. I don't remember mumbling to myself "Great Save"

I hope it was just the type of game that a fast pace was dictated both ways. We need Muse and the defense to step up in the NCAA and limit our goals against.

Muse has been shaky this year, no doubt. I guess he won the award because he had a shutout the night before, given that the Maine game was not his best. In his defense, BC did face 8 penalty kill situations, some of which were 5 on 3, and he did make some big saves on those kills. To kill all but 2 of those is still pretty impressive.

The D will need to play like they did Friday if they want to beat North Dakota (of course, Alaska is first).

Exactly, JP. Sweeping UMass and shutting out Vermont meant all he had to do is win.

To be fair to Muse, while he didn't play great--there weren't any soft goals. There were some really great shots and a couple screens that any goalie would have missed. Can't stop what you can't see. Give Maine credit, that team battled hard for their lives. Good test for our boys, thrilled we got the #1 seed in Boston.

The Maine game was bizarre in that 13 goals were scored but it never felt like either team was playing bad defense or the goalies were off. Definitely too many penalties on both sides, but otherwise it has to go down as one of the best played 13 goal games ever.

On an unrelated note, just wanted to share the BC themed cake toppers we had designed for our upcoming wedding: http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=26915634.

Thought you would all appreciate them!

That cake is awesome! Congrats!

And by cake I obviously mean cake topper

As for the hockey, here we go again with North Dakota. What is it, 4 years in a row we have met them in the tourney (up until last year obviously) with us going 3-1? That scares me. They are sort of due against us, but I love the way this team has played down the stretch. Unfortunately, if any team in the nation has played close to our level this last month or so it is ND who is 12-1-0.

I don't mean to be overlooking AK-Fairbanks, but I don't know anything about them so hard to comment on them. I am really excited for the tourney to start though

Lastly - as for the Muse thing, don't forget they have to give the award to someone - can't give it to Vermont or BU Goalies who both gave up 3 goals in their only game of the week in losses, and cannot give it to Maine goalie who allows 8 goals in the week and goes 1-1. Only choice is to give it to goalie who allowed 6 goals and went 2-0.

AK Fairbanks upset the great Dave Emma-led team in 1990 or '91 that was odds-on favorite to win the national championship - they had a lot of burly Canadians, which is probably the case this year too. They did it at Kelley Rink, where we were undefeated that season.

Saturday's meeting will mark the first time in BC's 87-year hockey history that the two teams will meet. BC has never played Alaska-Fairbanks, Blist - it must have been another team from Alaska.

Blist - it was Alaska-Anchorage. This is the first meeting between BC and AK-Fairbanks and this is their first ever trip to the NCAAs.

IF, and that is a huge IF, we get by alaska on saturday, it will be the 8th NCAA tournament meeting between the two teams in the last 12 seasons with 5 of those coming in the frozen four. our record over this span is (5-2 with us winning the last three) here's the recent history:

1999 - BC 3 NoDak 1...giuliano scored and put a kid through the glass in this game to send us to the frozen four in anaheim

2000 - NoDak 4 BC 2...heartbreaker in the championship game in providence. seeing mottau sliding on one knee into the empty net still gets me

2001 - BC 3 - NoDak 2...for all the marbles in albany. kolanos' game winner was so epic...this capped the revenge tour to the national championship that included wins over the teams that eliminated us in the previous three frozen fours (the other two being maine and michigan)

2005 - NoDak 6 - BC 3...quarterfinal game and the least competitive game we have given them in recent years

2006 - BC 6 - NoDak 5...won a great one before moving along and losing to a great Wisco team for the championship in milwaukee.

2007 - BC 6 - NoDak 4...second straight year where we beat them to go to the championship game before losing that absolutely gut-wrenching game to michigan state in st. louis on the night before Easter. this one still induces nausea

2008 - BC 6 - NoDak 1...the most lopsided game of the bunch...lead to our opportunity to stomp the irish in denver

Geez, Alaska-Anchorage, thanks. Sorry to waste everyone's time with my poor memory.

I agree with the Chinese guy. Very insightful.

Eagleboston -- good point about the insights of the chinese guy (first post on this blog) .

I decided to use the google translator to translate the chinese words to english.

Quite a hysterical translation, when you see what the link is for (you can guess). makes you wonder!

Here it is:

"People must first learn how to do a camel, and then can do a lion"

Let me know if anyone learns to "do a camel" (matthew2, seems like your speed, maybe??)(it's a joke my very angry friend)

Where's Tiger Woods when you need him? ha!

Blist - it wasn't a waste of time - in fact it got us thinking about the tournament and collegwe hockey in general - a good thing.
