More tournament projections and other links

Collegerpi.com has BC playing Memphis in one of the play in games. I actually like that matchup...of course it won't happen that way.

Southern Pigskin took a look at current ACC QBs and then went back to examine their ratings as recruiting prospects. Rettig is in the middle of the pack. Maryland's Dan O'Brien, who was on the ACC All Freshmen team, was lightly regarded out of high school.

Adam DePietro enjoyed his visit to BC. BC also has early interest in Ohio athlete Demitrious Davis. Jamil Pollard is talking up football and academics, so hopefully that will play to BC's favor. Alex Albright's cousin Sid Anvoots doesn't have a BC offer but did root for the Eagles.

ATl, I think that says it is either BC or Memphis ranked #11 playing Tulane...not BC playing Memphis.

Wrong, Cliff. In this scenario BC would play Memphis in one of the NCAA's new "First Four" games. With the expansion to 68 teams the last four at-large bid teams play each other in play-in games just like the last four auto-qualifiers do. So, the winner of the BC-Memphis game would then advance to the traditional bracket, though the game versus Temple is now actually considered a second round game.

I forget what game I was watching last night, but they showed the commentators "first four in" and "last four in" and we were in the latter of those two..

They showed that graphic during the BC-VT game Tuesday night except it was "First Four In" and "First Four Out" with BC in the 1st 4 Out column.

Actually, the Anvoots kid does have a BCS offer now. He got one from Louisville this week. Hopefully BC will step up and do the same!

CBS Sportsline has VT in that same play-in v Memphis. They have BC in at 11 v. UNLV

I was shown this new ACC football recruiting website the other day. It's not bad either if you're trying to get your off-season football fix.

You have to wonder if the ACC conspired behind closed doors to engineer VA Tech's win over Duke (getting them in) and then our win over Va Tech (probably sneaking us in). Damn good way to get 6 teams in the tourney, over 4.

Or, maybe V-Tech was really amped up to be playing on national TV in primetime against a top team in the nation at home...so that adrenaline and excitement allowed them to beat Duke (along with their talent).

Then, they were emotionally drained after Duke (maybe celebrated into Monday) and came out flat against BC/did not take BC that seriously since they had just beaten Duke.

I say no to Scott's theories.

Scotty-boy, if we were talking about professional wrestling, you might have a point. But since it is not, I would return to the Obama birther issues to get your conspiracy fix. (he was born in Kenya, and indoctrinated as a Marxist in Indonesia.....he is going to screw us all!!!)

VT flatness was utterly predictable after beating Duke. It's practically automatic. Take another bong hit Scott.

I have never believed in that "emotional hangover" stuff - I think it's just a convenient story line. We beat Virginia Tech last time out, too, in a much closer game - but I think it's a disservice to us and them to chalk it off to some sort of emotional roller coaster that did them in.

We beat VT because they are not good. They lost to Georgia Tech (current record: 11-17) and lost two games to UVa (current record: 15-14). They are 108th in the NCAA in points per game and 178th in rebounds per game.

VT may or may not be having a good season, but they are extremely talented, which is why they were ranked in the preseason and expected to finish 2nd in the ACC behind Duke. Beating Duke is not a shock.

Neither is losing the next game. I believe in emotional hangovers. I don't know how any BC fan can't, given our own recent history, following up a road win over #1 UNC with a flat home loss to Harvard just two seasons ago, and then just a month later doing the same thing winning vs. #5 Duke and losing @ a bad Miami.

You also have to consider the fact that Va Tech seems to own Duke in Blacksburg (as much as any team could own Duke) no matter how they do in the regular season.

Yes, Bob, he is. Hugely.

These kids are 20 years old. Emotions are a huge part of college sports. What Darius said.
