“While I am a Tennessee graduate (Master's Degree) and love UT and Knoxville, my heart is here at Boston College. I am very fortunate to have the only job I want. Anne and I will remain at BC for many years to come."
Frustrated that the Globe and Herald hadn't reached out to Gene for comment, I asked BC this morning for him to go on record. The above is what I got back. There you go.

Huzzah to your attempt to get the Globe and Herald to give a hoot about BC.
Gene is the Tom O'Brien of athletic directors. Will be good for the most part (discounting the Jags debacle) but never great. He has been at BC for a long time and I think BC could benefit from some fresh blood.
ATL are you the original source of this news?
Did WEEI (and then BCI) fail to give you credit? see HERE
I asked the question this morning to Chris Cameron. BC released a statement to everyone around noon. I don't know if I was the only one who asked. No biggie. All I did was ask for an official statement.
Damn!
Gene wasn't going to UT, regardless of ties and connections. He has a reputation running a clean program and there is no way that could happen in the SEC and not have him fired within six years... to much pressure to win.
Gene wants to be king. At UT he'd have to answer to boosters and have a president who wouldn't give him carte blanche.
I can't imagine how him trying to be as hands on with the football program as he has been at BC would go over at a football factory like UT.
While "Coach Flip" is probably one of the most poisonous things to our football program, with all the changes that have occurred in our Athletics Department as a whole, I think any further instability would have caused problems. While I am certainly not the biggest fan of Gene, especially the way he has handled our football program, he is the right person for the job as it is. Furthermore, I would be concerned about who would be hired to replace him if he had jumped ship to UT. If Gene stays here until he retires, then at least he can be involved in the search process for his replacement.
We can all say what we want, but Gene does love this athletics program as much as we all do and I certainly don't believe he would leave it in the hands of someone unwilling or unable to bring it to greater heights.
BCMurt
Are you familiar with the Peter Principle?
The thought of GDF picking his own replacement, Spaz's replacement and York's replacement is scary. Just look at the fiasco that resulted in the picking of Jags, the firing of Jags and then the picking of Spaz. Does any of that inspire confidence?
34, I see what you're saying but what I was trying to get at was I trust Gene a bit more in picking, or being a part of the process that picks, his successor rather than leaving it to Father Leahy. I would imagine that a committee would pick the new AD, but then again I would also imagine that you'd let a head coach explain himself before kicking him to the curb.
