El Attrach on board and other links

It has been a busy summer for Addazio's recruiters. The latest news is that Florida Athlete Mehdi El Attrach committed. Mehbi has decent size and good speed. I could see him growing into a linebacker. But as an athlete, they are not slotting him for any position yet. He could also play WR or DB. While not highly ranked, he does have a decent list of offers.

Soaring to Glory posted a map of the hometowns of Addazio's recruits. The map reinforces our slight shift from the Midwest to more emphasis on the ACC states.

This is the time of year where everyone produces their respective list ranking any and everything in college football. This one has Addazio as the 10th best coach in the conference. It is still so early in his tenure here at BC, that I don't know how anyone can really rank accurately. Athlon didn't think much of our individual defensive players, but ESPN thinks Daniels might surprise.

BC's color commentator Pete Cronan had some of his best seasons with the Redskins, so it is only natural that he has an opinion on the team name.

Initially I was troubled by the reduced recruiting of Ohio/Illinois/Indiana ... which has profitable to BC in the past, and a good cultural match with their Catholic HS programs. Much of that success was derivative of TOB/Bible's roots, but there is no denying that "Rust-belt" is a depreciating asset, both in terms of population & BC's familiarity (now that we're in the ACC. The mid-atlantic & southeast are exceptionally fertile recruiting areas, growing, increasing affluent/educated, and a target region for BC both academically, athletically. & alumni networking. The investment Daz makes now, will pay off in the future. So I'm sold that this is the smart strategy, provided we maintain contacts with the showcase catholic schools in the midwest.

Impressed w/ how Daz and staff have gone about filling the empty pipeline that has been a problem going back to Jags. The main thing is to consistently get players, doesn't matter where they come from. Keep bringing the Jim's and Joes!

As to the DC name, I love Pete Cronin, but disagree w/ him on this. It's a slur pure and simple, and should go.

Also, let's dump the "Fighting Irish" name. :-)

Nobody is more Irish than I am. On top of that ,Boston Irish. Fighting Irish is not a slur by any stretch of the imagination, and anyone who thinks it is might tell why. Why ND was ever called the "Irish" does back to the days when Catholic schools were heavily populated by Irish Americans. The "fighting" part denotes the spirit of the athletic teams, not anything else. The is a little used BC fight song(get the fight word?)that is "Fight, fight, fight for Boston"

So no slur, but "redskins" is another matter. I have never heard an Irishman complain about "fighting Irish" and I doubt that anyone has. I hate overboard PC reactions, but this one is real.

BJK, you have always had my deepest respect for your thoughtful posts, but this time you went "off the reservation"

fighting irish comes from the tenants who refused to be evicted by the british landlords, so it's not perjorative. that mascot is absurd though.

I'm w/ you. They could fix the problem by replacing the logo w/ a tasteful rendering of CĂș Chulainn. Same goes for the Boston Celtics
