Murphy puts on show against Minutemen

While the win over UMass is only one game, this BC offense will feel different from any we've seen in 25 years (or maybe even 35 years). Unlike past run-first BC squads, this one truly has a mobile QB. It was Tyler Murphy's feet that kept drives alive and it was Tyler Murphy's run that finally broke open the game. The transfer QB also threw a nice TD pass to Josh Bordner. It wasn't a perfect day for Murph or the D, but it was a good start. This is the type of game that builds confidence, yet also leaves the coaches with plenty to improve.

I am on the road, so I don't know when I will put up the grades and second viewing thoughts, but it will probably come Monday. Before then, I will have some other post and thoughts on the game. Including some pics from people at the game.

From Gillette: Great showing by Superfans & by BC crowd in general. Definitely outnumbered UMass.
Murphy great on his feet, but many throws were suspect.
Still, a great start for this young team.
Bring on Pitt!

I would say "imagine having to watch UMass every week" but the last year of SpazBall was probably exactly like that.

I see it the same as "Albany Eagle". Murphy is a great ball handler. He is quick on his feet. However, he has to hit on his passes. If he can that, the season will be great. BC has some big receivers who are able to block. The key will be the passing game.

we have three very capable RBs in Willis, Rouse and Hilliman. Murphy was excellent on his feet. Alston also looks very dangerous and i hope we can build a few more plays in that take advantage of his skill set. get that guy in space and he will make people miss.

hope to see us attempt more downfield strikes in the weeks ahead, especially as the competition gets tougher. don't recall Phillips getting a catch. Callinan, Bordner and Crimmins are all possession guys, but can be utilized to move the chains and keep drives alive.

hopefully Harris Williams is able to recover soon, although the o-line depth does not seem to be an issue.

whats up with the different Kickers? i had never heard of the Launceford or whatever his name was until today. i thought Howell was our K?

Pitt game next week will be big. they ran the ball down Delaware's throat today, hopefully the front 7 is up to the challenge.

finally, was very happy with the SuperFan turnout today. i expect Alumni is gonna be ROCKING for the friday night game. LETS GO EAGLES

Philips was unable to catch a catchable TD ball Throw was decent, not perfect.

Got back from Alaska today in time to watch the game.

Pitt will be tough and USC is scary - and Colorao State is no guarantee.

If we build on the positives from today, we can get the job done.

I hope Harris Williams got a sprain and will be back.

Go BC - good job on day 1. UMass was much better than they were last year.

Watched the first half on my phone from a concert my wife wanted to go to instead of the game. Watched the second half this morning. Really, we looked pretty good, but pretty much was a size and execution mismatch, so hard to say how good we are. Good win though, glass to see BC fans outnumber UMass too

Mark my words, this will be a very successful season.

Tyler Murphy will be the QB that gets us out of jams, but our run game looks to be effective. We've had size/talent mismatches before in these games and we still did not dominate the line like we did yesterday.

The run should open the pass, which will give Murphy a chance to get in space, but really keeping some of the better offenses on the bench and pounding them with our fresh leg backs should be a choice.

Agreed, USC is probably out of reach, but everyone has a good/bad day.

With the exception of VTech, we've got the home games where we need them, FSU probably does not matter where its played.
