Instead of writing our own story we helped the Seminoles repeat their story. The defending champions did just enough to win after getting a scare from an underdog. There were a lot of plays that would have made the difference. I'm frustrated but still proud of the effort.
I will have second viewing thoughts and grades up late Sunday.

Well, I was completely wrong about this game. I had no confidence BC could hang with this team. Not only did they hang with them, but they should have won this game. It would have been the biggest victory in BC history.
Now, when they look back on this season, they will realize they could have won 10 games instead of 6 or 7. They were in every game except for Pitt and Louisville.
I hope we don't take a major step back next season when we have to break in a new quarterback and we lose the entire O-line. I also hope the Eagles shake this game off and beat a pesky Syracuse next week. We need to finish this season with positive momentum.
I hope Ryan Day has his own circle in hell. Seriously. What the hell are you doing calling trick plays with 5 minutes left after 14 successful runs in a row??? Ok let's say Murphy catches it... WHY LEAVE FSU WITH 4 MINUTES TO TIE THE GAME??? RUN THE DAMN BALL.
Oh and then on 3rd and 9 let's put no one in the backfield with Murphy so the defense can just key on him.
Well played sir, well played. It's a shame too because 1 moronic play call ruined an otherwise outstanding performance and game plan.
Haven't read any of the comments yet.
First, proud of the guys. FSU gets everyone's best and this was no different. Winston, even on a bum ankle, is so accurate. We needed to take advantage of those dropped passes.
Okay. Second...Ryan Day. I get that Murphy was open, but we were 2nd and 9 with a bad kicker and I just don't get the reason for out-thinking yourself there. We were pounding them. Throwing the ball gives them an out after an eight or nine minute drive.
It sounds like Monday morning quarterbacking, but this seemed so obvious.
Anyway. Look forward to having a multi-dimensional offense. This offense is just so hopeless falling behind down and distance.
All in all, hope this helps recruiting. Tough loss but kind of saw it coming after the missed FG. Good try.
Did Howell or Knoll miss the FG?
If the throw to Murphy works Day is the hero. Not killing him for that.
I disagree Bill... When the run was so successful, why leave FSU with 4-5 minutes left to tie the game(assuming Murphy makes the catch)? We were pushing their defense around and we gave up on it. I would have ZERO problem with it if they tried it earlier in the game and it failed. It made absolutely no sense to try when they did.
FWIW, I said "Why?" as soon as I saw Bordner drop back.
Cannot and won't kill Day either. We are running the ball, but when the field shortens up and FSU presses up, it was going to be tough sledding. It was a good risk and if Bordner throws a second earlier or less air under the ball its a great call for a TD. We ran the ball well, but it was not unstoppable like USC.
Bill I agree with you. Murphy was open and it did hit him in the hands. Catch that pass and we are writing songs about Day. Good effort good game be proud of these kids and let them hold their heads high.
That all being said? So damn close. Ugh.
Oh and I almost forgot. I ENJOY WATCHING BC FOOTBALL AGAIN! Was not sure I would ever get to say that again. Thank you Daz, Day, the head Dude, Coach Washington, Bates and all the coaches and players. Thank you.
The call reeked of "We just practiced this play 10 days in a row and I forgot to call it yet so here goes nothing"
Again, 14 consecutive runs for 66 yards spanning 8 minutes. 5 minutes left. 2nd and 9. Trick play pass. I don't know how you can defend it based on A. Not running the ball *OR* B. Intentionally leaving FSU with 4-5 minutes left to tie it. If you want to argue against A or B, fine, that's your prerogative. I just don't know how you could argue against both.
I live in Florida... You know what smell was permeating the air during the last drive? The shit that was filling the undergarments of FSU fans. That is, until we called a pass with our QB-turned-WR to our starting QB.
Most of the tv experts did criticize the play call, but keep in mind, even if we ran it, we may not have succeeded. They blew up the running play on 1st down. Also, given our struggles with pass defense all season, do you really think the BC defense would have stopped Winston and Company?
We're all frustrated but get used to it. I've been watching BC football for 30 years and I have been way more frustrated than elated.
We won the TOP game 34 to 26, which is exactly what we had to do.
Didn't pull it off. Haven't got much else to say.
Proud of our Eagles.
We lost 3 games by a total of 10 points. The "what ifs" are going to be killers looking back on this season. One of the major what ifs is what if we had even an average passer at the qb position? With our running game, we could have caught a lot of teams sucking up to stop the run. A decent passer would have given BC a shot at 3rd and 9.
Looking forward, let's hope we can break in a new qb and an entire offensive line without taking a major step back. Let's hope our passing game improves and we convert more 3rd downs. Let's hope for consistency in our kicking game and much better pass defense. We know the critical roles we are missing. Let's hope Daz can plug these holes and get BC over the 6-7 win hump.
Interesting note - filed under "in case you didn't know".
Clemson beat Georgia State today 28 to 0.
The OC for Georgia State - new to big time football - is Jeff Jagodzinski.
"eagleboston" asked a good question. Knoll kicked the 40 yarder in the first half. Howell missed the 42 yder. I question the changing to the punter when the kicker had made one. That's my only question about a well played game.
This blog is the home of the Monday morning QB. You have been crying for weeks now about how come we keep running the ball up the middle. The OC throws the ball and u want to kill him. I for one won't play that game. I think we have a tremendous staff, and just hope we can keep them. Yea the tv commentator objected to the call. It was quite convenient to do so after the play didn't work. If Murph hung on I'm sure he would have been talking about how great it was. You all need to read TRs man in the arena.
Well I guess if the TV commentator questioned it, it couldn't possibly have been an original idea of my own.
I was confident we would win this game going into it... 2 weeks to prepare, FSU coming off an emotional last minute win against an in-state rival and going into another huge rivalry next week... Miami ran the ball right through their defense, which looked soft. I knew we'd be able to exploit that and get ours on the ground too. Everything was in our favor for this game. When their NFL Pro Bowl kicker missed his first ever kick at home, I knew we would find a way to win... except we found a way to lose instead.
All in all a frustrating, frustrating loss.
The difference Hoib is that the runs today were actually working. Day has been killed in the past because he continued to run the ball up the middle when it didn't work.
Here is an interesting stat: The BC defense held FSU to their lowest point total of the season. I have maligned the BC pass defense, but I have to give the unit credit for holding down the Seminole scoring and keeping us in the game. Clemson is the only other team besides BC to hold FSU under 30. Great job, defense!
BB
U most be in the HOF as a Monday morning QB.
It's not even that Hoib. When the play was ongoing most people were probably screaming no.
An additional follow-up to eagleboston's point: the Clemson defense held an FSU Offense without Winston to 23 points. I think it's safe to say a Jameis Winston lead offense would have put up a few more points against Clemson.
