Addazio sticking with Fadule

John Fadule's story is not over. The walk-on who played most of the game Saturday will be getting the primary practices snaps this week and will play against NC State. This is some of what Addazio said:
"I think we'll keep developing all of our quarterbacks. But as we go into the week, John Fadule will be getting his share of the reps with the ones. That's going to happen. I'm not into just straight anointing people given how quickly this has come about. But certainly his performance is one that we're excited about. Exactly how we'll divvy up [the quarterback reps]? I can't tell you that yet. But we're excited about his performance and looking for him to build on that. What I think he brought into that game was real toughness, real energy and he moved the team. That's really important. There's some stuff that needs to be cleaned up but nothing that you wouldn't expect from someone who hasn't taken too many reps in running the offense."

At this point Addazio has watched back the game film and talked to his coaches. They clearly like what they saw. Addazio spent most of his Monday press conference praising Fadule. While I see the issues going all in on Fadule, I think Addazio is making the right call. We need to win and Fadule provides a more aggressive and crisp option than Flutie. While I still think Smith has more game breaking potential, as long as he is not at 100% and as long as the Offensive Line remains so inconsistent, Fadule seems like the best option.

The issue long-term is what do you do with Fadule and the other QBs. Right now all are young and all are dealing with a limited sample size. Who is going to be the best and how do you tell? In my mind, this comes back to philosophy and what Addazio truly wants to run. Was the Tyler Murphy power game his preference? If so Smith would seem like the guy to get reps. Does he want some sort of prep-school Tebow deal? Then Fadule. If he wants a better passer like Rettig, then you would think Wade would be the guy once he's healthy.

Addazio can buy a little time with Fadule but eventually he will have to pick a direction. Or maybe Fadule will play so well that Addazio lucks into a consistent, effective QB.

Why can't people see this team is awful. They will not win a game the rest of the year, yet you will still pick them to win every week and waste time writing articles about what could be. They are the worst team out of all the major conferences hands down.

Tom Brady could not help this team. It is not the QB it is the coach. There is no coach in America who entered his third year who did not show his true colors. BC's coach is at best mediocre. Under him we will be looking to go 6 and 6 or in a good year 8 and 4. He's shown his colors. Forever mediocre. Get used to it.

And whatever happened to the basketball teams. VC used to be exciting in both sports now they suck. The AD is another failure. These guys get big bucks, they should get at least fair results. How sad it is. Yet it goes on and on into oblivion. No wonder we are scheduling Holy Cross again.

Graduated in 1995, thanks for playing. I am a realist. I used to enjoy BC sports, now I rarely watch games. Why can't anyone speak the truth? I bet mist people on this site are middle mgmt, don't want to rock the boat, content with their avg lives. Thus, you view BC the same way, hoping and praying they can improve. You probably all buy lottery tickets too.

Because I am not blind and judge things by results. I wish BC football and bball were good. Unfortunately they are not and they won't be good for a long time
It's sad they are so bad. If you can't see this I feel sorry for you.

Its a sure sign that we are in deep s&it when the trolls fail to realize that their comments aren't all that unreasonable! Serenity now!

I will be at the NC State game with my girlfriend (who went to an SEC football power) for all four quarters in the upper deck end zone. If its another deja vu BC football experience I will be shouting profanities and making a general fool of myself but none of it will matter as nobody will see or hear me except for my date. If she is still sitting with me at the end of the game - I trust that I have all your blessings to marry her.

Well, on to the subject at hand. If anyone's been watching the games, then giving Fadule a shot is a no brainier. Let's see what he does. I think it's time to sit Smith down. He needs to get bigger. W/ Fluties I don't think he has much of a future w/ us, so long as Daz is coach. Unless Fadule lights it up the rest of the way, you have to figure Wade can't be too worried about getting his job back. I hope Brown shows more next year than this years Freshman did. Of course it won't matter who the QB is if the line doesn't come together. Every year is different, just look at last year compared to this one.

Nappy I'll be at the game too. I'll look for a guy w/ his right hand in his jacket. Let's hope it's Austerlitz and not Waterloo!

We have a QB 'situation' and all i see coming in next year is the same sell-out-to-try-and-compete-right-away dual threat QBs.

You need scary good athletes at WR and RB for a dual threat qb to actually be a 'threat.' You need the defense to solely counter good skill positions with man to man defense in order for the QB to have the option to get out into the open and run.

Since we can't get that type of talent at our skill positions (this has been the case for 10 years now), the only resort is to go to a guy who can throw it (such as a matt ryan or a porter or a BSP). And.... oh wow, look at that, this weekend we resorted to a freaking WALK ON and he was a threat to at least throw the ball more than 5 yards down field. oh, and look at that, we actually moved the FREAKING BALL.

This shitty offense that addazio is running is an utter embarrassment and it is actually horrible to watch. its been horrible to watch the past 3 years, not only this year. and if you look at the incoming class, it is legitimately a carbon copy of his other recruiting classes. this is so pathetic.

its gotten to a point with me that even if we were winning some games, this style of play is just so bad to watch that I don't even know if i would be thrilled about it.

the kicker about all of this is that temple almost beat ND this weekend. We are going to lose by 400 points to notre dame in our OWN BACKYARD.

addazio left temple to start something special at BC. ha.

i was discussing Fadule with fellow ATL commenter HARIO and we both had a chuckle. you know things are bad when a walk-on non-scholarship freshman who goes 8/20 for 143 yards, 0/1 TD/INT, and runs 15 times for 53 yards (including a 25 yarder) is such a marked improvement over the QB position that he is the clear-cut starter next week. this coming from a coach who did the QB Shuffle for weeks with our scholarship QBs because none of them "stepped up" and had themselves a sub-50% completion percentage day with a 3 yard per carry rushing effort. unreal.

even if we don't get another win this season, Addazio will be back for 2016. there will be no excuses and nowhere to hide for him starting in 2016. Umass, Buffalo, Wagner and UCONN are all on the OOC schedule - not exactly a murderer's row. it will be a team of players Addazio recruited, it will be young but with underclassmen who have played a ton and have game experience. if the line can't block next year, that is a reflection on Addazio's own ineptitude. i have a feeling a loss in the UCONN game next November could be Addazio's "Army" loss - the game where fans unanimously throw in the towel and say "we have had enough with this guy."

i believe the following are facts:
the starting QB and starting RB are both out for the year.
the 4 freshmen WR (Glines, Pankey, Borgersen and Garrison) brought in to improve the WR corps are all out with injury.
the OL, with no significant injuries, has been by far the worst unit of the team.
our special teams are still below average.
the coaches have mismanaged the 2-minute drill time and time again.

i hope just for my own sake and for fans like me that just want to see some winning football that next year the OL regains its form, Wade and Hilliman can power our offense, the new WRs show some flashes, the D doesn't lose a step, and we win our 7 or 8 games and are feeling okay. i worry, though, that such a scenario is a pipe dream and a year from now we are Googling to see who the best HC in the MAC is.

Miz - good post,

but to paraphrase your first and second to last lines

"you know things are bad when winning 7 next year, which would be okay but probably is a pipe dream, is a marked improvement over this year."

JBQ said...

@Napoleon B: Best wishes to you and your girl friend. Isn't that what this is really all about? "Ever to excel". There is no room for mediocrity. Addazio is mediocre at best. Bates is the hiring factor and "enabler" for giving him an extension. So far, Father Leahy has given no input. The last step in the food chain is John Fish who is the chair of the Board of Trustees. He is the CEO of Suffolk Construction in Boston.

UMass, Buffalo, are you sh&$i#G me Wagner - let me say that again - Wagner! And UConn - that's our OOC schedule for 2016.

Oh say it ain't so, Brad - say it ain't so.

Get Howard Wagner off the schedule, for Pete's sake.

What were you thinking, Brad - what were you thinking?

You might as well close off the upper levels. You will average less than 25,000 per game next year - all because of your own ineptitude. Down 20,000 fans - nice going, Brad.

Pitiful and sad how we bring in a guy who couldn't screw it up more if he tried.

Your new nickname - and I hope it sticks is Dumb it Down Brad - DIDB.

Napolean Bonaparte said...

You have to wonder what the hell people like Brad, Daz, Leahy, etc. are saying to each other these days or what anybody else with influence is saying to them? You'd hope that somebody up there would be responding in some way similar to how any of our own bosses would respond if any one of us had performed this way. If I had a year like this - I'd be quickly reassigned to our branch office in Red Lick (near Texarkana) probably for the duration of my career.

And it was Fish who pushed the foolishness of the olympics in Boston. He was a total failure at that. He should stick with construction.

A victory over Our Lady of So' Bend may have blunted the horde's fangs and bought...very...precious...time, but ongoing acute, losing & particularly the sting of not converting enough points from five (5!) O.L.O.S.B. turnovers to prevail, now makes of the Head Gridiron Acolyte but one thing - a Plus Size Target. There is an ambitious Athletic Department Bishop, responsible for this appointment, whose reputation & FBS future hangs in the balance. Compounding this reckoning is the needless, feckless & liberal expenditure of extra capital in 'fixing' a financial circumstance that weren't broke to begin with in bringing it all about. Though Trustees & Clergy may have countenanced the Dabacle, the Arc of the Reaper's Scythe traditionally cants lower in excision of the infirm. This is the way of things among men - one need not protest it. More agreeable to bow slightly at the waist in honorable resignation - that the blow may be swift, accurate & merciful.
