Addazio doesn't have time for Loeffler not to workout

Auburn fans don't think much of Scot Loeffler. And the Virginia Tech fans are a mixed bag. While I am sure some of their criticisms are valid (predictable, forces players into offense regardless of skill set, etc.) none of what they feel really matters to BC. Because if Loeffler, or more accurately Loeffler/Reid combination, doesn't work out, Addazio is done.

If BC is terrible offensively again this year, Addazio won't get to replace Loeffler. How could he go to Bates and ask for more money to find yet another play caller? And what in-demand OC would want to be Addazio's fourth Offensive Coordinator in four years? It would be the lamest of lame duck positions. If the Offense is last again in the conference and among the worst in College Football, than the issues were clearly not Todd Fitch or youth.

It is comforting that Addazio hired a friendly face. He probably knows that he can't screw this up, so he might as well go with someone he can trust. If Loeffler has great success and moves on to better things, then Addazio can take a risk. Then he can hire an untested assistant. But for now he needs support and someone who will not screw up. Loeffler may have a limited upside, but he won't be any worse than last year. But then again, no one really could.

ATL,
Boston College doesn't have the talent on offense to be anything next season other than what it was last year. There is no way in hell Loeffler can turn the offense from Chicken shit into chicken salad in one season.

The fact that Boston College was able to acquire Leoffler leads me to believe that Addazio is not going anywhere regardless of what happens next season. I don't see that an OC with experience at programs like Auburn, VT and Michigan would accept a job at a program with ZERO offensive talent like Boston College if there were any chance that he would get only one season turn the disaster around.

We do have Towles coming in but will he have anyone to throw to? Last years receivers were pretty abysmal. Not only could they not get open, but they dropped a ton of passes as well. BC needs a complete talent overhaul on offense to have any hopes of competing.

This comment may sound terrible , but Addazio will have a decent record next year if he allows this tranfer to throw the ball , especially occasionally on first down. Hilliman is back and despite many people saying there are no receivers, I disagree. I believe Callanan and others will do fine - it all depends on having a creative game plan (which may be asking too much ). Throw in an incredibly weak schedule, an improved offensive line and you have 6 - 7 wins and Bates will extend Addazio's contract with another raise. Don't you love it and attendance will increase by 500 fans per game.

BB

W/ u on the receivers. Robinson should think about changing positions again, D?

The issue goes much deeper than Addazio alone. The business decision by Bates for the extension and a new five year liability totaling 13 million is horrid. You don't throw "manhole covers around like nickels" without being held accountable.

The offensive line has had one full year "under their belt" ; experience is a great teacher. It is said that a big lineman transfer (5th year ) is soon to arrive. Some on the O-Line will have added some size and strength and that was a detriment last year - "Getting knocked off the ball". I believe "Lindstrom was playing at 260lbs. which was ridiculous. Will they be great - no - but they will be BETTER. And remember that a game plan did not exist which allowed opposing defenses to "Tee Off " at the line of scrimmage basically knowing that the run was coming or THE THIRD DOWN PASS WAS COMING. I am not an Addazio fan at all , but I am "Taking a leap of faith " in assuming the incoming O/C will see the need for "Creativity" on the offensive side of the ball. If not , then I will lose all hope. And , I have said prior that the schedule is in their favor.(6-7 wins)

I don't get the negativity with the Loeffler hire. He has had very good stops on his resume and the VT offense improved greatly this year when the top QB Brewer played. They were putting up points on Ohio State before the kid got hurt and they scored 55 against Tulsa. They scored 26 against us which was the 2nd highest we gave up all year. VT would have won 3 or 4 more games if Brewer doesn't get hurt. Also he did not get fired from VT, they hired a brand new coach who is labeled as an offensive guy so he was going to bring in his own people. He had to keep Foster, VT owed him too much money and you are not getting better then him anyways.

After going 0 for the ACC, Addazio has hired two good coordinators from major conferences. You have to give due when appropriate. They were able to pay for both of them and they are experienced at the BCS level. Next year is a big year and I think both Bates and Addazio stepped up with these hires. I think it bodes well for next along with the QB transfer and manageable schedule.

As everyone has noted this is a big year for both. I actually think Bates is in more hot water then Addazio. They owe Addazio too much money with the extension last year that he has at least two more years. If basketball would to ever not win a game (I think they will) making the two revenue sports winless that is going to fall directly on Bates not anyone else. Those are his hires and he is responsible.

@Edmonds1011: Loeffler was a good hire as was Reid. Let's see how things work out.

By the way, GO CLEMSON!!!!! I am concerned that Deshaun Watson will get "Hurt" if he does not reduce his number of runs against an extremely talented and VERY PHYSICAL Alabama "D". They will have to use Gallman more and hope that he can produce. And , it is important that the "Shaq" is able to play on Defense. A win in this matchup would be huge in the perception of ACC Football. Again , GO TIGERS !!!!!

Mod,
I said what I meant.

Your the numbers-douche. The Kentucky QB had 9 TD's and 17 Ints last year. Maybe you analyzed the INT's and they were the WR's problem or the line sucked but the td total is pathetic for a "good" QB and he is walking into a worse situation in terms of what his supporting cast at Boston College will be. If he were good he wouldn't be leaving Kentucky. They would be paying him to stay if he was choosing to leave.

The line is terrible at Boston College. The running backs are soft and the wide receivers are non-existent and have been for 6-7 years ; all encompassed in my previous statement.

Loeffler might need a job but he doesn't need one bad enough to throw the next 30 years of his career away taking a one year shot at the OC job at Boston College-especially after what the Boston College offense did last year. Addazio gets 3 wins and he will be back for 2017. Mark it down.

Some days I love coming in at the end of the comment threads. I'm not reading above Knucklehead's comment here, between someone hating on Mod34b, the oddness of the Beatles/Pearl Jam bit and the WTF with the bacon, the prior comments can only disappoint compared to how I imagine what led to these thoughts.

If u figure it out, please explain it to me. It seems Knuck entered into the realm of JBQ w/ his last comment.

The bacon comment was meant for my buddy. Not for this blog. It is from the new Kermit ad with Charles Barley and Samuel L. Jackson.

The beatles and pearl jam are for pussies.

I appreciate Jackson Browne and the BeeGees. Going to see Jackson and James Taylor in Fenway as a matter of fact. At my core I am a Rolling Stones/Grateful Dead/Nirvana/Iron Maiden patron. Huge reggae fan also.

Your core is Beatles and Pearl Jam though.
