Based on media attention, Towles seems like the QB

The supposed open battle at QB doesn't look so open when you just read the press clippings. In interview after interview Addazio talked about the Towles and the mistake he made in not having more QB experience last season. This article references the "politics" of the situation last year. But the article also goes on about Towles winning qualities and fit with the approach. There is barely a mention of Wade.

in the end, I am not concerned with who plays and starts at QB. I am more concerned that Addazio learned from his mistakes. A QB rotation never really works and you can't worry about the player politics when the season is on the line.

I don't get it. Daz should know better than anyone that the problem was the line. We could have had Deshawn last year and it wouldn't have mattered. After all, we had plenty of good backs and none of them were able to do anything behind that front.

The OL has a year of experience under their belts, Hillman is back and a SEC quarterback transfer. The offense might even score a touchdown or two this year.

@Hoib: When you are running at a nine man front with no threat of a pass, then it's not the line. From film of Towles, he should be fine. You have to parallel the BC philosophy to what happened at ND. The little leftie running qb broke his leg and was replaced by a 6 ft 5 thrower. He did fine.

SEC quarterback? Holy shit. I am not worthy. Give me a fucking break asshole.

9 TD and 17 Ints. We will see.

Towles had opposite statistics the year prior however, he definitely has a skill set and can be productive. Towles is going to start, I personally have thoughg so since he announced his transfer, it makes too much sense for a number of scenarios (experience, class spacing with Wade/Brown). Hopefully Addazio gets Wade mean girl experience with this horrible schedule this year to ease the transition to '17.

This year won't come down to Towles, it comes down to how fast Addazio can get his OL recruits experience to fill the holes by Spaziani. Hoib hit the nail on the head. Rather than second guessing bringing in a 5th year QB last year, he should have brought in 2-3 graduate OL with experience and at least given Wade a chance.

The bottom line is, Addazio took a major gamble last year and lost. I don't blame him at all for going with Wade, he was clearly the best QB on the roster (not saying much) and showed flashes prior to being injured (albeit against bad comp, he still made throws that nobody else could have made vs similar competition). If Addazio had a semi competent line, Wade likely stays healthy and gets a full season of experience under his belt (and BC goes to a bowl). The OL gamble however, was the bigger of the two issues no doubt.

*meaningful experience

Daz took the helm in December 2012. It was obvious that he had OL problems looming. He did not make meaningful steps to fix the problem for several recruiting cycles. For sure Daz tried. He offered scholarships to a ton of OL in his early tenure and was rejected again and again.

He just did not recruit OL well. A fact. A problem.

So here we are hoping a bunch of sophomores (mainly) plus a MAc-Attack GRad can do the job. Given Daz's comments, we are only hoping for serviceable.

In year 4, the Spaz excuse doesn't fly. At all.

Daz everyone at least agree that with only a few exceptions, Daz has been a bust at recruiting offensive players?

you keep saying that mod but the facts remain, he couldn't take any in the transition class and in his first class, effectively coming off of a 2 win spaz season, he still managed to grab Baker and Hendren who both had multiple P5 offers, and then Knopfe, Palazzolo and Monteiro who also had various P5 offers. The overwhelming majority of the guys Addazio has brought in on the OL, are very much in line with the type of guys (at least based on HS offers/ranking)that Obrien brought in who DEVELOPED into NFL talent. Those are facts, they may not line up with your "Addazio is a bad recruiter and cant recruit the OL" thesis, but its true.

I understand you still fail to grasp the concept of development, especially at the OL position, but facts are facts. Why do you think you see so few young OL starting ANYWHERE in the country ? Regardless of how high they were ranked in HS or where they are playing in college. It takes time to get them ready to play.

Addazio showed he can take guys that were far less recruited in HS (Spaz recruits) and develop them into NFL talent (drafted or signed into camps), but those were guys in the system for 3-4 years.

I think this year you see a major step forward as the projected starters have been in the program for a bit, but it still wont be a finished product, and that IS on spaziani since there are no 4-5 year upper classman on campus thanks to your BFF under recruiting like BC was on NCAA probation.

Kash, I know you come from a rougher "message board " environment where personal shittiness is a virtue, but can't I simply disagree with your opinion without getting the "fail to grasp" "bff" "but facts remain" (when we are talking about opinions)

Are commenters allowed to completely disagree with you?

Daz got Patchan for the 2013 class? Why couldn't he get Others for 2013? He whiffed in 2014 too - getting only 3 when at least 6 OL needed. Why?

I am astounded and dismayed at the Daz apologists and synchophants on this blog. They set the bar so low. I want an alumni revolution while they are perfectly fine with mediocrity. Sad.
