I am still not worried about Addazio's recruiting

Michigan has come poaching for two of BC's defensive verbals. One is DE Kwity Paye and the other is DB Brandon Sebastian. Both sound very excited about the Wolverines and both had a prior relationship with former BC and current Michigan Defensive Coordinator Don Brown. It would be unfortunate to lose either, but it is all part of the game. It is no different than Addazio poaching former Temple or Florida guys for BC or Brown bringing over UConn transfers when he came to BC. I am sure Addazio will work hard to keep the guys in the fold and poach other school's verbals to backfill. Recruiting is not really about one or two players. It is a volume business and Addazio has shown good instincts in that regard. If you aim for a big class every year, your hit rate doesn't have to be as high. With or without Paye and Sebastian, I think Addazio will bring in another large group of freshmen and 5th year seniors.

At this point recruiting is not going to be what undoes Addazio. Talent isn't BC's issue (as evidenced by all the close games). How we use the talent and how we develop the talent is. In fact, recruiting might be Addazio's only way to save himself. If he wants to win consistently, he's going to need to up his recruiting so that BC's talent is superior enough to overcome his ultra conservative game management.

It is good that other programs are coming after our kids. It is validation of BC's staff assesments and makes our group work a little harder on the recruiting trail. I am sure they can negatively recruit against Michigan just like Michigan is doing to us ("how long will Harbaugh be there?" or "you know Harbaugh has a history of pulling offers right near Signing Day?"). Our talent will be fine. Now if Addazio can just find the right guys for the Xs & Os.

g.e. i agree.!!!

I wonder about ATl. He really can't believe some of the stuff he writes. Recruiting is ok? talent ok? "It is good that other programs are coming after our kids."??? it is?

49-0... 0-8.. 125th ranked Offense..... 2d to worst quality of recruits among P5 schools.. blah blah blah...

i've always assumed he is half a politician. He writes the happy talk to keep his contacts/sources happy and thus keeps getting a stream of info.. But he is nothing like the happy happy talk at BCI... omg... he runs a nice blog (thank you ATL) .. so i guess that works....

losing our high quality recruits is not a problem? it certainly is. BC depends on getting a group of worker bees every year (the grinders) and a few queen bees too (e.g. Kuechley, Herzy, simmons) without the queen bees we are a MAC team .. which is what we have been for a while now.

Thanks Daz.

Thank you, Mod. Now down boy, down. Back into your cage lol
ATL, that was one of the most absurd blogs you have made on here. You seem to be drinking the Daz cool aid at an an increasing rate. Alarming.

funny g.e.!

interesting the two possible escapees are both new england players. One is from Chesire CT - Daz used to coach there. (nice work Daz)

i think Daz's fence around new england just got mowed down by the blue and maize!

but how can Daz compete with Michigan?? not too many kids would turn down michigan...

kwity - escapee #1 - is looking, like so many of today's undergrad a safe place -- which i guess BC can't provide

"Boston College commit Kwity Paye is expecting to find "a place I can call home" on his official visit to Michigan.""

he'll be safe now..

Don Brown is giving Daz some kinda payback here.... what a dick....

I think this post contradicts itself too much to be understood. It is about recruiting? It isn't about recruiting? It's not going to undo him, but he needs to up his recruiting? And I disagree...in some instances recruiting is many times about one or two guys. Especially at QB.

It's not a talent issue? When is losing by 50 to an unranked team not about talent? Or getting shut out by Wake Forest? Wake Forest? There are high school teams in GA that could score on them by accident. If Daz is to be believed, next year will bear the fruit of his development. I'm hugely skeptical. He'll be starting yet another QB and that is the one position you have to have figured out. Meyer won a natty with a 3rd stringer. LSU should have multiple titles by now but played crappy QBs who belonged in the 1970s.

I fear the Brown/Wade inexperience excuse revving its engines already.

I'll stop worrying about Addazio's recruiting when we have a winning ACC record. I guess that means we have to win a conference game first. Since that hasn't happened since 2014, I think I'll still worry about our talent level. We might lose to Louisville, Clemson and FSU by a combined 90 points. But there's nothing to worry about with respect to Addazio's recruiting? That's hard to fathom.

Those two guys can recommit but their chances of playing shirt term or at all at Michigan are low comparatively.

De commit.

Agree, Knucklehead. I can never understood why a quality player would rather risk sitting on the bench than star on a FBS team starved for talent.

Understand

I don't think we have successfully kicked a field goal since 2013. The two best QBs he has gotten were other people's recruits with one year of eligibility left. But recruiting is not a problem.

TC for AD & HC in 2017.

I think we can debate if recruiting is Daz's Number 1 problem or not (maybe in game coaching his is number 1 problem) -- but really hard to buy that he is good at recruiting either whether based on recruiting rankings or on field performance.

I think ATL's premise is more along the lines that at BC we will never get elite level recruiting classes and the focus is more along the lines on putting the players we have in a system that wins football games. I guess Daz fills up his class with similar levels of talent that TOB did.

I'm with Hario. I have no idea how good of a recruiter Daz is (the recruiting services will always ranks us low regardless) since he's a terrible coach on the field.

daz's recruits are well below the level of tob recruits.

Bravesbill said...

TOB did pull in Top 25 classes a few times I think; Daz would be lucky to pull in a Top 50 class.

Good point Bbill, couldn't remember how TOBs classes were rated.

I think that his recruiting COULD be stellar if he would show better coaching and development on the field. It must be difficult if you are a pre-frosh watching a guy who looks like a lunatic walking up and down the sidelines cursing so often he draws penalties for it. Then, you see games like Wake last year, which demonstrated a severe lack of preparation and organization from the coach. And there are others, but Wake was just soul-crushing.

Anyway, combine that with the lack of player development. Daz just seems to rely on a lot of 5th year seniors he brings in for a single year. Look at our quarterback situation, it is a joke. So - I think that is going to begin affecting his recruiting.

Daz needs to focus on part 1. Having an organized and cohesive unit on the field. Also, taking what you do have and improving their skill sets. Even if they are getting their butts handed to them because of the lack of talent, at least they are prepared and on the same page. THEN, you can show a potential recruit that he will be starting immediately (and receive national attention) and he will improve to the level where he can compete to join the NFL.
