BC-Floride State preview

Florida State has been a pivotal game for Addazio each year. In his first season, BC had a thrilling back and forth with the eventual champs. FSU would later claim it was the toughest test of their season. In the second year, BC nearly pulled off an upset as almost every button Addazio pushed worked. Last year saw the beginning of the end as Wade went down with a broken leg. BC has yet to really recover from that moment. The injury and the loss set up a frustrating series of losses and games that led us here. Who knows, maybe this FSU game is Addazio's chance to set things right.

What's on my mind (not totally related to this game)
I haven't thought much about this game because we are not very good and because I've been reading and watching election coverage for three days straight. The only time I got into politics on the blog was a few years ago when I said "hey everyone, support Scott Brown because he's a BC guy..." It didn't go well. While the stakes are certainly different, there are plenty of parallels between sports fandom and being passionate about a political party or issue. Even being a BC fan far from BC has provided me a perspective on what it is like to be in a bubble or have a different background from those around you. I don't know what is going to happen, but my belief is similar to my view of BC sports: you've got to take a long-term perspective. Things might not be how you want them now, but there are good times ahead and in the end, we will all be okay.

Three Simple Keys
1. Run after the catch. Because we don't have an accurate passer or many dynamic skill guys, we rarely turn short catches into long runs. However, this Florida State team is not great at tackling. If we can get Jeff Smith the ball on a crossing pattern or maybe set up more screens for Willis or Jones, we can turn little plays into big ones.
2. A huge game from our DTs. They haven't been bad this year, but our DTs have been less impactful this season. We need Gutapfel to collapse their pockets and ruin their run game.
3. Avoid dumb penalties. It wasn't the reason we lost last week, but it certainly didn't help. The team needs to play smarter.

Gambling Notes
-- BC has lost six straight to FSU
-- BC is 2-4 all time in Tallahassee
-- Addazio is 5-9 in ACC road games
The current line is BC+21

Factoid
Addazio remains the only BC coach who has not beaten Florida State in an ACC game.

Scoreboard Watching...
If the press is saying Addazio is on the hot seat, then I am going to keep posting coaching profiles. I like Penn State Offensive Coordinator Joe Moorhead. I don't know much about his personality, but he's had all the seemingly perfect stops on his resume to prepare him for the BC job. I know fans will want a name and not some coordinator, but some of our best coaches have been coordinators looking for their shot at a major conference team.

What I hope to see...
The offensive line play better. Addazio didn't think things were bad, but we allowed way too much pressure last week and didn't own the line of scrimmage. If this group is ever going to turn the corner and give us hope, they have to come together as a unit now.

BC is in trouble if...
We can't stop the run. As much as I worry about big plays, it all starts with stopping the run. If we can make them one dimensional, we might keep it interesting.

Overall
By Jimbo Fisher's recent standards, this is not a good Florida State team. Yet they are still better than BC and can still score in bunches. I think this will feel like many of our other recent blowouts. The only difference is we might score a few more points in the second half.
Final Score: Florida State 38, BC 20

ATL, I prefer no politics with my sports, but its your blog.

As for your disappointment, I must say I am more than happy - thrilled - at the democratic process and the election result - it was like Christmas morning. I could not believe the outcome. Most Americans agree with me too. But I live in very, very blue state of Massachusetts. Lots of people coming to work with red eyes and long faces. The promised liberal utopia will have to wait four more years for Chief Spreading Bull - Sen. Eliz Warren.

now back to Sports...

Daz concedes he cannot compete against ACC 'elites.' That is transmitted to the players. Not good.

Defeatism precedes defeat.

I am delighted with the outcome of the election. BC needs to shake things up with a Trump of it's own.

knucklehead said...

Mod,
For all your bluster, data and bullshit you are kind of a moron. Most Americans do not agree with you, friggin Hillary won the popular vote.

I voted Trump in ma. People in my office were bitching all afternoon. Assholes.

Stock market is going through the friggin roof.

Geezer eagle said...

Trump jr for AD. Lol Hey, it could work.

mod34b said...

Knuckle. Such a natural fool with s self-selected name to match

Yes technically Hillary got slightly more votes than trump And who - besides knucklehead - cares about such trivialities

Geezer eagle said...

Mod, remind Knucklehead that the vast majority of the Hildabeast's votes came from the left coast and the Northeast. Look at the election map. It's a sea of red.

dixieagle said...

Geez, I never took BC guys to be such rednecks. ;) Y'all sound like '74.

I voted for a virtually unknown candidate from a party mostly aligned with my views (down here in AL there was no question of my third-party vote affecting anything one way or the other.) I was thrilled HRC lost, and also disgusted that Trump won.

I figure we're in for another embarrassing blowout tomorrow night. While I'll never root for a loss, right now I'm happy whenever there's another nail in Daz's coffin (so to speak.)

ATL_eagle said...

I am actually not upset by the process. I really dislike Clinton and I am glad she lost. I didn't vote for Trump (I wrote someone in) but I actually think the process getting shaken up and the "elites" being wrong on occasion is a good thing. My point is that all the sky is falling people need to take a breathe and things will probably be fine.

I care about moronic incorrect statements.

"Most Americans agree with me too." Wrong. Most Americans do not agree with you.

First, trump is closing fast and may yet win the superfluous popular vote. It is superfluous because it is solely due to the massive over flow vote in three huge deep blue states, NY, Illinois and California. Take a look at a county map of the election and it is over 90% red. In addition the house is overwhelming Republican and Rs control 33 of the 50 state houses. So yes, most people are thrilled with the results.

FYI, the Daz sucks and I've been saying that since early last season.

Big Jack Krack said...

Wow.

I am not okay with Donald Trump representing me or my country.

"The democratic process; most Americans agree: etc. Hardly!

Almost ½ of eligible voters did not vote = Lecherous Donald, President, USA.

26% of Republicans voted; 27% of Democrats

Now we have a president-elect who daily exhibits the 7 deadly sins.

Lust or lechery – longing for sex - fornication, adultery, rape - desire in general; thus, lust for money, power, and other things are sinful - the impurity of lust makes one "a slave of the devil".

Gluttony – overindulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste; gluttony can be interpreted as selfishness; essentially placing concern with one's own impulses or interests above the well-being or interests of others.

Note – never trust a man whose ass is wider than his shoulders.

Greed - avarice, cupidity or covetousness, is, like lust and gluttony, a sin of desire.
avarice "plunges a man deep into the mire of this world, so that he makes it to be his god." - greed is an inordinate desire to acquire or possess more than one needs, especially with respect to material wealth. Like pride, it can lead to not just some, but all evil.

Sloth - Sloth has also been defined as a failure to do things that one should do. Sloth is a sin of omitting responsibilities... to the neglect of manifold duties of charity towards the neighbor, and to animosity towards those who love God. Lecherous Donald had some very unkind things to say about Pope Francis.

Wrath - uncontrolled feelings of anger, rage, and even hatred, often revealing itself in the wish to seek vengeance. Wrath, in its purest form, presents with injury, violence, and hate that may provoke feuds that can go on for centuries. Wrath may persist long after the person who did another a grievous wrong is dead. Feelings of wrath can manifest in different ways, including impatience, hateful misanthropy, revenge, "People who fly into a rage always make a bad landing." According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the neutral act of anger becomes the sin of wrath when it's directed against an innocent person, when it's unduly strong or long-lasting, or when it desires excessive punishment.

Envy can be described as a sad or resentful covetousness towards the traits or possessions of someone else. It arises from vainglory, and severs a man from his neighbor. Malicious envy is similar to jealousy in that they both feel discontent towards someone's traits, status, abilities, or rewards. A difference is that the envious also desire the entity and covet it. Envy can be directly related to the Ten Commandments, specifically, "Neither shall you covet... anything that belongs to your neighbour."

Pride - Also known as hubris - dangerously corrupt selfishness, the putting of one's own desires, urges, wants, and whims before the welfare of people. it is irrationally believing that one is essentially and necessarily better, superior, or more important than others, failing to acknowledge the accomplishments of others, and excessive admiration of the personal image or self (especially forgetting one's own lack of divinity, and refusing to acknowledge one's own limits, faults, or wrongs as a human being).
…..to describe how certain leaders, when put to positions of immense power, seem to become irrationally self-confident in their own abilities, increasingly reluctant to listen to the advice of others and progressively more impulsive in their actions.
Dante's definition of pride was "love of self perverted to hatred and contempt for one's neighbour".

My disdain for Donald Trump knows no bounds!!!!!!!

Ohhhh, what's a matter little Jackie? Upset that the Constitution and democratic process works? Perfectly happy voting for the most corrupt, dishonest, lying woman in American political history ? Miss all that "free" stuff the Hildabeast would give increasing number of parasites living off the government. Are you a true Catholic? Yea, let's have more abortions on demand. Yea. Let's have open borders and amnesty for illegals.

Hillary Clinton sold her soul for millions of dollars from middle eastern and eastern European governments(a lot of that money comes for US tax payers who subsidize them). She did it under the false pretenses of a philanthropic foundation. That foundation uses about 10% of its funds to "help" people and the rest "who knows."

She feels that the world owes her because she stayed married to Bill.

As a result, she as a public civil servant flew around the world(she is the most travelled Secretary of State in American history) selling her self and her husband for money.

She is the deplorable.

As an aside, I would let Obamacare fail on its own. People need to see that it was a fail Barack Obama policy without involvement from Donald.

Have always agreed with BGK, however not this time. Donald was not a viable candidate but the "anti candidate". HRC and her cuckold consort got what they deserved. By the way, it looks like Brian Kelly may be available. BC is an Irish school in an Irish community. The president is Irish. The coach is Italian. My deceased Italian uncle sharpened knives while pushing a little cart. The Dazzler may be in need of such a job.

I take it BJK is a pro-life lib? Because I'm fairly certain that the abortion agenda favored by the Left, including late-term, viable fetus, abortion is not on the 7 Deadly Sin list. You simply cannot be pro-choice and be Catholic. Trump is odious. But after Bill Clinton, I mean, he literally did everything Trump is accused of. Are you up in arms about the RAPE allegations against Billy? The adultery? Yet he is held high by the Left? Isn't Trump too, by a different subset?

As for the game, I'm going to watch the QB that is going to potentially eat the league alive over the next few years. That guy doesn't play on BC. I kinda think we'll score more than we anticipate on this team, however. Will be interesting to see if our guys play with effort if we get down early. I keep hearing on these message boards that "I know a guy who knows some player's parents" that they've checked out on Daz. Whatever. ATL doesn't think so. I would never know. Except for effort in another blowout.

My comments are directed at Donald Trump.

It's easy to understand why people hate(d) HRC.

TGS and Georgia Eagle- I don't have to explain myself to you regarding abortion.

"Are you a true Catholic? Yea, let's have more abortions on demand."

I sat in class at BC in 1964 or 1965 when Fr. "Rubbers" Riordan brought in a pickled fetus to class, and we had a very frank discussion about that subject. He also brought in the photos from Look or Life Magazine that showed the development inside the womb in various stages.

How old are you guys? I was against abortion long before the Republicans gave us Roe v Wade.

To think that I am "for abortion" - well you can both go fuck YOURSELVES.

You suppose that more Democrats have abortions than Republicans. You suppose that Democrats are baby killers.

The fact of the matter is that abortion is legal in this country under Civil Law.

The final vote in favor of Roe was 7-2, with five Republican-appointed Justices and two Democratic-appointed Justices in step.

"a puny military"? Please! We spend more than the next 7 or 8 nations combined - much higher than China and Russia.

President Obama's military spending has a lot to do with President Bush's failure to get a Status of Forces Agreement with Iraq - hence the withdrawal and Republican-led Sequestration - the automatic, across-the-board cuts originally designed to force bipartisan negotiations in Congress. So his spending has not particularly increased as much as in the past, but it hasn't decreased for sure.

I have disdain for Trump so I'm for Pedophile Priests?

You guys make me laugh.

It will amaze some of the posters on this thread- given how awful the product at Alumni is right now- but a lot of us, whatever our politics, actually come here as a welcome distraction from the sordid, depressing din of this campaign and its aftermath. This is a BC football board, not a Catholic sodality society or Breitbart. Take the debate elsewhere.
Politics aside, TGS and GeorgiaEagle: Wow. Could two BC alums possibly be this puerile and inarticulate in the flesh? You two make that Eagle74 guy they banhammered on BCI sound like Themistocles. Apparently you haven't figured it out yet, but using profanity and adolescent ad hominem stuff to defend Trump confirms the worst stereotypes most of your countrymen, (including a lot of the ones who held their nose to vote for him) have of his hardcore supporters.

Bill, it is your blog and I've been following it for years. The time and energy you put into following BC sports ans allowing us a forum to discuss and even rant is great and I really appreciate it. What I can't believe is the vitriol and sheer meanness from people that I assume are my fellow BC alumni. It comes out way to quick and with such venom whether we are talking about scheduling or coaching or now politics. I didn't learn to behave that way at Boston College.

BJK has been on this board a long time and is relentlessly positive about Boston College even as dark as things have been the last few years. After others had weighed in with some very pro Trump comments Jack weighed in with his view of the President-elect and they were about the man himself and not about the individuals that posted supported him. The immediate response was to call him names and swear at him. I was incredulous when I read those. And to be honest, sad too. We have to be better than this.

I guess I must be sanctimonious or intolerant or politically correct too if I expect people to be respectful of others. I'm not offended by your pro-Trump views, I'm offended by how you chose to respond to a gentleman, a veteran and a fellow Eagle.
