Something's going on with recruiting

Another day and yet another BC Football verbal. This time it is Mass DT prospect Ryan Betro.

Betro's got a good rating and a solid upside, so I am excited. But his commitment makes me wonder. Is the staff pushing hard for specific verbals this week? It just seems like more than a coincidence that all of these commitments are coming at the same time. Maybe it is contagious enthusiasm, but I doubt it.

I understand if the staff is pushing guys to get on board. However, I always fear the hard sell with these kids...especially ones with options. Kids and families may question committing this early. While these guys have verballed, other schools will try to poach and at least one BC guy will go somewhere else.

Or maybe I am wrong and maybe Addazio is just hitting the right kids at the right time. Either way, I just want him to build on this and sign a great recruiting class.

But no impact this year. It could get ugly fast.

looks like its the contagious angle. the signed recruits are pushing for their friends and others recruit to get on board. looks like they are pushing each other

Is that Kelly Olynyk?

Smart for recruits to lock in a Power-5 commitment now, especially when it's one that other schools will treat like a MAC verbal.

I seem to remember that Damian Woody brought several of his friends along with him, and it worked out great.

I like the idea.

Dazzler ought to hire Zukauskas as the o-line coach and re-assign Justin Frye. These are his players.

Glad to see the commits. My concern is not Massachusetts but the quality of any player out of Lawrence Academy. Its a $60,000 a year dinky rich kids school playing other dinky rich kids schools in the ISL. I think the competitive quality of a the high school conference matters such that its a much bigger crap shoot whether any kid out of Lawrence is really Power 5 worthy. How many ISL grads have started at the Division 1 level? Anyway, if you think my concerns are invalid please let me know why - thanks.

Still wish they'd send a recruiter over here to Mobile (I know they recruit in Georgia). The Catholic H.S. here is a powerhouse - state champs last year, runners-up this year, in the toughest division in the state of AL, and that' s saying something. A number of kids from the school (McGill-Toolen Catholic) have already gone to BC.

There are also other excellent programs in the area, including some successful private schools whose kids would be aware of BC and who aren't so wedded to the idea of staying in the state. We could likely pry at least a few good prospects away from the SEC with the prospect of being more likely to play and make a difference. There must be something in the water here, because there sure are plenty of excellent athletes.

You make too much sense, dixieagle. And for that matter (1) all Jesuit High Schools nationally (1a) all Catholic Schools - and of course with respect to all schools.

This is not a religion litmus test, but a search for talent.

Dixie, I live in the Atlanta suburbs and let me tell you, southern kids ( black and white) are myopic. All they see is SEC and maybe a few ACC schools. To them, Boston is the equivalent to Siberia.

A friend just e-mailed me saying that Ethan Tucky (3 star from 2016 ) has asked for a transfer and it has been granted. Schools like Cinn. ,Kentucky , Louisville, and Michigan State have shown interest . My point would be that a lot can happen with 2017 recruits and also this current promising (2018) recruiting class. it is VERY early and kids change their minds !!!!! If this info has already been posted - my bad !!!!

It's not myopia. Kids generally want to play within driving distance of family. What supersedes that, as in brand names like ND or maybe Stanford now (among many others), is sustained success.

Yes GE, as a native to ATL who has experienced the SEC for 40+ yrs, the expansion of the ACC post 1991(FSU) must be seen in a muti-generational light. Dabo has transformed CU, but they were shit since Danny Ford. Jimbo has resurrected FSU, after Bowden went five yrs too late to the country club. Petrino is the ultimate douche good coach, but UL has zero standards. You could probably buy a PhD online for a box of animal crackers. Richt will resurrect Miami, because it's MIAMI. Walk 100 yds and you will run into six 4stars. He couldn't win at UGA with better classes now the ACC is on par with the SEC. Irony. Hell, Cutcliffe is a good coach at the wrong school. The only way to recruit the south from Boston is to be in the news.

Coach? Yes! Build it and they will come. From far and wide. But you have to to do it these days before five years. You know why? Because the good ones have done it! In shorter time. Against (4 yrs ago) better competition.

BC cannot win without in this day and age recruiting the south. New Jersey is fine. But if you joined the ACC to expand your footprint, act like you're more interested in branding than in TV checks. Just, seriously, devote the resources (budget), and try. More than one recruiter. It can be done. U carpetbaggers are all over the place. There's literally never been a better time. Hire me. I'll do it.
