BC has talent

Check out the stat below.

I won't rehash all my issues with the recruiting systems and rankings. I think Addazio's reputation as a good recruiter is holding true. Our three star guys are developing and there has been an overall improvement in our speed and size. We can play with anyone on our schedule.

Two weeks to get ready for NC St. At halftime, it is ND 21-14. Make no mistake. NC St is very good. Hines their speed guy, running back, kick returner was hurt early. Their defense with a mountain by the name of Chubb is very good. Their linebacker by the name of Pratt, blocked an ND punt and fell on it in the end zone. Finley their qb is very good. Their d line has all 5th year players. With Hines, they beat ND. Will BC be ready?

NC State doesn't like to play in the chill. Screw them, we'll be ready.

Exactly big. Screw them. They suck. Their QB cannot run. We can beat them.

Agreed on the ratings favoring commits at big schools. In terms of NFL talent each school produces, according to ESPN, BC has 17 NFL players and Florida St. has 43. Obviously FSU has had more talent over the years and they have more talent right now, but BC has plenty of good players and a few that will play in the NFL at some point.

With Hines they beat ND. Yeah, no.

Time to give ND credit. Their fans wanted Kelly and the AD out two games in. Because fans are really really smart.

Dazzle-not may have recruited them but transforming them into FRIDAY NIGHT's stars lies with

LOEFFLER , Reid and BROWN . Make no mistake about that !!!!!!!!!!

Hines isn't worth 4 scores. They could have 2 Hines. It doesn't matter. Their QB cannot run. If he could then they would be beat us almost certainly. Since he cannot the game is a toss up. We own them so the game is probably ours.

Some half wit at ESPN said FSU should never lose to a team with inferior talent. The American public has been subjected to inferior talent at ESPN for decades. That same half wit said Matt Ryan wasn't a quality QB. He got a free education from the State of Ohio but fled to another locale as tax dodge. What a skinflint. 2. BC beats FSU by 32. Bama beat them only by 17. BC had more yards against the FSU D than Bama and held them to less offense than the Tide. How about some praise for the team that outperformed Bama? 3. Great game and great atmosphere for the game Friday night. Hope the high level of play continues. While Brown's stats were unimpressive his overall play was excellent. If he continues to improve the sky is the limit.

For what it's worth I've been following your blog for years now. I'm a former football player
and Captain of the '78 '79 teams. Without sounding like a suck up I really appreciate the information you provide as well as your ability to maintain objectivity.

JS,
ATL rarely replies to comments in his own blog. But if he reads this I'm sure he will appreciate your kind words.

Hey Big John - have you pancaked anyone lately? ☺️

Thanks for keeping up the tradition of tough BC Offensive Linemen in your day.

I was a season ticket holder from the early 70's through 2015, until the scheduling of Howard and Wagner et al drove me out.

Although living 1000 miles away, I will renew next year because this team is motivated and together and trying hard to get BC Football back on track.

The key is in the recruiting assessment of the kid's potential no matter how many stars he has - as well as the coaching up talent (and a bit of luck - e.g., Petrula and Ray Smith). Luke Keuchly was a three star and BJ Raji was a two star. There are plenty of three star kids with the potential to play as well as anyone. And while our kids are not all PhD material - I wonder how many of those FSU players would qualify here.

ccw said...

We always had more success when we could get some more highly recruited kids to come here. William Green, Toal, Blackmon - even on the OL too. Hell, Dillon was a 4 star.

Don't delude yourself into thinking this staff is so much smarter than everyone else and we can just mine the leftovers. Beating down a FSU team that quit on their season doesn't make the last 3 years of mediocrity just disapear.

@ccw: You make a valid point. However, it looks like wins over NC St., UConn, and @Syracuse are well within reach. An 8-4 record with a decent bowl game will blow away 3 years of mediocrity in a "New York Minute". If it's an illusion, then we will see it next year. Right now, at the very least, we are seeing a "false positive".

John said...

JBQ - I would say that the final 3 games are within reach, but maybe well within reach is a stretch.

NC State will be difficult, but it's at home. Syracuse in the Carrier Dome is another story and traditionally a difficult place to win. We can do it, but we will be the underdog.

We won there in 93, 99 and 2010.

I hope you are right.

Matt Milano is doing well for the Buffalo Bills.

Why would a kid from Florida come to cold Boston College? To play at a high level with a chance to make a pro team that might be located in a cold climate city. 🙂

Duh!

It’s pretty evident that recruiting rankings are nonsense when a kids ratings go up and down based on who offers him. Every kid BC has signed for the upcoming class (with the exception of Dirstine) has had their rating decreased upon committing to BC. Whereas when kids commit to the FSUs and Clemson’s of the world their rating goes up. Pure athletes aren’t always good football players. BC finds good football players. We may never be the fastest, but we do the fundamental things well. Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.

FSU folded after getting hit with a haymaker on the first drive. BC made that happen. Don't forget it.

It is brutally apparent that people don't watch all the games they talk about.

Herbstriet was run out of Ohio for saying negative things about OSU.

NC State is a toss up. The two weeks is big for us, not concerned with their hurt rb, especially on the dline. Allen and Smith are playing entire games with minimal if any subs and are banged up. They will be ready to go after two weeks off.
UConn is a win.
Syracuse is a loss.

Geezer eagle said...

Why do you rate Syracuse a loss, Knuck? We may need that game to land a half-way decent bowl.

Napolean Bonaparte said...

NC State next. We have a decent shot at winning all three of them. Could not say that pre Louisville. We have a lot of demons in the closet from Syracuse. So what - screw that and just play football. One game at a time.

Running QB,
On the road
They have made us their female dog the last 2 years. The 3-4 prior to that we held our own but the games are brutal.

Mainly the running QB though.

"Addazio's reputation as a good recruiter is holding true"

Wait, what? That statement makes no sense in light of the 32>3 statistic from Hale. If your argument is that Addazio has developed his lesser talent better than Fisher, then I would at least understand the point, but the Hale statistic tells us that Fisher is a better recruiter than Addazio by a factor of 10.

Geezer eagle said...

Knucklehead,We were FSU's female dog, too.

Knucklehead said...

Did the fact I said Syracuse has a running QB escape you. I said it 5 times. Florida State QB sucks and cannot run.
