"Beauty" is subjective, winning is not

I didn't want to spend this week lecturing Addazio again about what to say and what not to say. But he keeps using his radio show to defend the team against those who don't know what they're talking about. Hoffses assumes he means BCI and me. I am guessing Addazio also hears the noise from the fans on the message boards, twitter and at Alumni.

While Addazio thinks he's building something beautiful (see the clip below), my concern is that he and his current staff are not capable of delivering on that promise.

I agree with Addazio that the players are developing. I agree that the talent level is improved. But the coaching staff still has to mold that talent into a unit and give that unit a clean gameplan. The gameplan needs to be something they can execute. Since Ryan Day left, Addazio has shown no ability to produce a competent college football offense. You don't have to "know" football to notice a trend:

Boston College's Offensive Efficiency under Addazio
-- Current Offensive Efficiency: 106th
-- 2016 Offensive Efficiency: 117th
-- 2015 Offensive Efficiency: 123rd
-- 2014 Offensive Efficiency: 32nd
-- 2013 Offensive Efficiency: 48th

When you continue to struggle offensively over the course of three seasons, it is a failure. It is not due to youth, injuries or a tough schedule. It is a breakdown in teaching, coaching, planning, and adjusting.

Right now Addazio sits at 2-4. We only have one remaining game where we are currently favored. If he really thinks he can deliver on this team's potential, he can just ignore the critics and win. Go on a run and shut us all up. Trust me, it would make both sides happy. Until then, I suggest he spends less time reading his critics and more time figuring out how to improve his offense.

"...teaching, coaching, planning and adjusting." He has proven over and over that he is clueless about all of those. The one thing he excels at is finding excuses and justifying failure.

The man is delusional. Worse coach in the history of modern college football. Why he still has a job is beyond comprehension.

The scenario is now clear on how to salvage his job. He will be 3-9 and even UConn has a hot quarterback. Will Jarmond buy it and will Markell rubber stamp it? Leahy is irrelevant. He just sits at his desk all day and stares at the reservoir.

. - only an unsophisticated slob , like you, would think Daz is a good salesman. He is not. I know you bought his crap for years - completely unaware how bad a coach he was . Recall when you blamed the players after Dublin fiasco - siding with Coach

This is just Some friendly advise for you

You cannot see obvious sarcasm in the form of a quote from one of the best comedy movies ever made.

You are an utter imbecile.

The players did lose the GT game. Idiot. You don't know anything about sports.

He reminds me of Bruce Arena.

That is not a compliment.

Temple has had several very good coaches yet we found a major stink bomb.

His idea of beauty is the sickest joke imaginable .

Stop relaying what he says . He is full of fecal material.

Smug, condescending, irritable, thin-skinned, and always the excuses.

On the worst night in US soccer history, the comparisons are obvious.

Indeed Arena is a Daz soulmate of delusion.

After today's soccer fiasco this (on twitter) "Amazing Bruce Arena quote: “There’s nothing wrong with what we’re doing...We have some good players coming up. Nothing has to change."

Daz "Well, no, there's nothing wrong with the game plan now" and "It'll come together, and it'll be beautiful. You can write that one down, okay.""

ObserverCollege said...

You bet I wrote that down. It will be beautiful as Coach Addazio cleanses the program of its institutional sickness.

Coach Addazio had to remove the stench of the Jagodzinski and Spaziani years. That's like an infection, where the freshman during Spaziani's last year transmit the virus to their incoming teammates, year after year. You have to remove the host carriers, and stamp out the weaker strain of the disease in the secondary carriers.

While he still has players who played with players who played under Spaziani, this is the first year he has players who did not play with players who played under Spaziani. But those players who only play with players who played with players who played under Spaziani, and not with players who played under Spaziani, are the freshmen.

They are the foundation of the program, and you have to take your lumps now.

Coach Addazio could have played someone other than freshman Anthony Brown. But you'd be playing someone who played with a large number of players who played under Spaziani (and even Jagodzinski!!!). Instead, Coach Addazio cut away the metastatic tissue and went with the pure but immature tissue.

Then as the tissue blooms, it will become beautiful. That is, if you don't intervene and get rid of the guy who finally got rid of the players who played under Spaziani, and make these current players play with players who never had the opportunity to play under Coach Addazio.

THAT would be the tragedy.

Here's the thing: if you are confident and focused on what you are doing, you don't have time to listen to ignorant people criticizing you. Also, if you know what you are doing, in any profession, you are able to show tangible results in a reasonable time frame. This has nothing to do with football knowledge -- it is management.

The University committed a significant amount of money to get someone who could manage the program to tangible results. We were not looking for just an Xs and Os guy (a coordinator) -- we were looking for a manager of our program. Daz, knowing who the team would be playing, the level of competition, the recruiting constraints, etc., said he was the man for the job. It does not matter what his football savant buddies (like Urban) say to make him feel better. They are irrelevant to the equation.

Maybe he is building something beautiful. Or terrific even. But this is not Ever to Excel. This is a clown show. Daz is a clown show. And clown show got to go.

Whomever Daz's replacement is will be underwhelming. Ditto for Christian.

These guys were far from perfect, but the TOB/Skinner/GDF years were the ceiling of the Leahy era. The CEILING! A lot of people would love to have that level of success back. We won't get it as long as Leahy is around. He wants coaches who represent the university well and run a clean program (and are catholic if possible). Winning is a bonus, but not necessary. Jarmond will be largely irrelevant to any hiring process, IMHO.

Replace Leahy first. Reestablish a culture that cares about creating a winning tradition. Until that happens, all we can do is wait and watch the train wreck.

JBQ said...

@ObserverCollege: So, you would consider that anyone who played with Mattie Ice to have been contaminated? He was coached by Jags but found by TOB. Your false logic is astounding.

JBQ, ObserverCollege is a resident troll. Just ignore him.

I actually feel pity for Adazzio. He knows he is a failure. He knows all his BS about a five year plan is trash and is now trying to deflect and get another few years. He knows that he is not producing anything except a string of the worst losses in BC football history. He is at the point of delusion and hysteria now. He must know he is getting sacked and that he will never be a head coach in DI, or at the very least, at a Power 5 conference team again.

The comparison to Arena is apt.

PerishTheEagle said...

Observer is not a troll. He's a satirist and he's really funny. He's using farce to "support" Addazio.

New account, OC?

Sorry BCDisco you are giving Leahy too much credit. He doesn't care how the coach acts or performance. All he wants is to like the person he hires(he liked the doofus AD because he was from the Midwest and had 7 degrees, he like jagodinksi because he went to school in Wisconsin, he likes Jarmond personally as well). There is obviously Zero correlation between the characteristics need to get hired by Leahy and job performance. If behavior were a measurement he would have canned Addazio after the 2015 season because of his behavior on the sidelines especially the meltdown in the Wake game(3-0). Then in circumstances when he should meltdown he acts like a bitch and does nothing(last two Syracuse home games). He should have been fired then, like I called for. He has been enabled by Leahy and the doofus AD before the current doofus AD.

I am not certain what is going on over here but when there are continual failures and they across the board(academic stagnation and athletic failure) then you have to replace the person at the top.

The new BOD will ultimately see that(BC people not construction workers) and it just a matter of when they come to the conclusion and make the decision to ask Leahy to move on.

I am not content with the status quo academically or athletically at my school right now. I have invested a shitload of money into this place between undergrad, mba and what I am doing now. The leadership is failing the school. Look around you "leadership" Northeastern and BU are about to lap you.

Total fucking embarrassment.
