Per David Glenn, if BC had lost Wednesday, it would have been the largest second half comeback in ACC Tournament history. But Robinson made a huge basket and forced a huge steal as BC held off NC State to advance to the quarters. It would have been devastating to lose that game after playing a near perfect first half.
While Bowman started off BC's run and Robinson finished the game, the middle was filled with good minutes from the role players. Pop was great sliding to the basket on breaks and screens. Mitchell was great breaking the press and crashing the boards. Reyes went 5-5 while finishing around the basket. It was really fun to watch.
The only reason NC State got back is because BC allowed some bad 3s. I don't expect adjustments on perimeter defense now, but Christian needs to fix it in the offseason.
BC plays Clemson on Thursday. That too is a winnable game. They just need to keep playing like they did today and they will be tough to stop.

BC makes clutch plays late to hold off NC State

I was very impressed with how well they handled the press. They made very few mistakes and broke the press several times leading to easy baskets. Loved Robinson's monstrous dunk and clutch shooting.
I'm guessing they will start to tire out but at least they have played their way into the NIT.
Coach can leave the necktie at home. Nice to see BC win two ACC tournament games for the first time since Jared Dudley and Craig Smith, not to mention, a potential 20 win season.
See the structure of the ACC tournament? Ridiculous.
Unbelievably proud of this team. We were written off for dead after the Hawkins injury. But Bowman and Robinson prove game in and game out that they are not only the best backcourt in the ACC, but the best in the COUNTRY. Imagine where this team would be with Hawkins? Bright future for this program
Let's be realistic... the future is only bright if Robinson comes back next year and Christian can find another ACC POY type to replace him. JC needs to realize we need to get more than 20 minutes from our bench on any given night and he needs to go out and recruit/develop more than 5 guys at a time.
Unfortunately the 3rd game in three days will probably do us in today against a Clemson team playing its first since Saturday. I'd expect a close first half and Clemson blowing us out in the second after fatigue sets in. Really hope I'm wrong.
Jairus Hamilton is a top 60 recruit in the nation and easily could have been ranked higher according to a lot of recruiting sites. He was an absolute steal. All the powerhouse schools had offers out to him. He’s the next Robinson if he reaches his potential. And Wynston Tabbs is the other incoming recruit who is no slouch himself. Some pretty big offers other than BC. Easily would have had more ACC offers if not for a knee injury his sophomore year. Kid is a legit 4 star prospect as well. So yes, I think regardless of if Robinson comes back the future is bright. If he comes back, all the better. I’m sure Christian will hit the grad transfer circuit hard just like last year. And now he has TANGIBLE results to sell
If you need more proof on the kind of offers this kid received click on that link. He’s a day 1 contributor
I'm sure you thought Jamarcus Russell, Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf, Vince Young, Mark Sanchez, etc. were sure fire NFL stud QBs before they took a snap in the league too.
I'm not trying to be negative, just realistic. Remember the recruiting stars go to 5, so obviously the kid isn't a guarantee. And if we don't make the NCAA's WITH Jerome Robinson, who's to say a freshman will come in and take us there? Again, we need more than 5 guys that can play...
Do I hope the future is bright? Hell to the yeah. Do I think we have reason for unbridled optimism? No, the program still has major questions surrounding it.
I think Robinson coming back for his senior season would go a long way towards returning us to sustainable success. I'm afraid if he doesn't we will see another season like this one - tantalizing but unfulfilling(assuming we don't win the ACC tourney).
Robinson will be back because he needs to work on his defense. That was on clear display yesterday. Regardless, though, the program finally has a foundation for the first time since Skinner left. If you can't find a reason to be encouraged about that, I feel bad for you.
In the second half, BC gave up a lot of easy baskets early. Guard just finding guys right under the basket with uncontestable shots/layups.
That kept NC State in it and then they got hot with 3s.
If BC gives up 3s, that happens. But easy, high-percentage shots under the basket cannot happen.
Thomas, you also have to understand that this team is down Teddy Hawkins. Who was not only a 15/10 guy but our starting power forward, and easily the second/third best player on this roster (dependent on which version of Bowman shows up). If he’s healthy there’s no doubt in my mind we find a way to close out Miami and Florida State, and maybe even the countless other close games we lost (Louisville, Clemson, Virginia). If that happens we’re not even having this conversation. Notre Dame is getting so much benefit of the doubt because of the Colson injury. Where is that same response for us and Hawkins?
I agree that BC is capable of beating Clemson, if adequately rested, but this is not a fair fight. I can't believe how sckewed the ACC tourney is toward it's top 4 seeds. Clemson received two Byes, meaning they are 100% fresh and haven't played a single game yet, where is BC has to play 3 tough games in 3 days. Top seeds should only receive one bye, two byes is ridiculous, particularity if you don't build a day of rest for the team that has already played 2 games in a row.
Clemson is extremely athletic and plays fast. I don't see how BC (or any team) can be expected to win 3 games in 3 days, when matched up against a top ranked, high tempo team with fresh legs.
Agreed, losing Hawkins sucked. But he was a stop-gap transfer that never averaged 15 points OR 10 rebounds in a season, including the games he played against inferior talent this year, so suddenly expecting that in ACC competition is disingenuous at best. So we've found a 6th man... Where are the 7th and 8th?
Don't confuse realism with pessimism. I think the 2018-2019 season could be spectacular if Robinson returns. But I think the recent lack of success has made this year's mediocre run taint your glasses a little too rosy. The spectacular recruiting class you cite is ranked 10th(!!!) in the ACC!
We've got an hour or so to go til we tip against Clemson and I'll be rooting like hell for another upset. Let's go Eagles!
Momentum goes a long ways in these tourneys, but the double bye is a huge equalizer. Clemson is not the same team without Grantham, so there is some opportunity here.
The games afford the players plenty of time-out, making it possible to play a short bench if you stay out of foul trouble. The big differences between back-back-back tourney games vs getting a day rest (like Thurs-Sat, or the dreaded ACC home Sat-road Mon) during the regular season is the travel and the campus vibe. Nobody is out partying in NYC till BC is dropped. However, Thurs/Fri/Sat nights offer up too many opportunities to get off schedule and come out flat.
Clemson will not hang back as long as NC State did.
The last sentence of the 10:47 post is right. I feel bad for him, too. Going from winless in conference to 7 ACC wins and now 9 in two seasons is pretty remarkable. Pitt just fired Stallings after their winless season. BC believed that a foundation was going to be built and it appears they were right. Mod and Thomas both majored in suck. It’s been awhile since we’ve been able to feel optimistic about this program. Christian is the first guy to admit the team is thin, but it’s a small price to pay to get enough momentum to get a top 60 guy to commit. And you know what, Mr. Sunshine? This is a pretty fun team to watch.
The only thing mediocre about any of this is your post.
Ahhh CT, don't let what I actually said get in the way of your narrative, agenda, whatever...
"I think the 2018-2019 season could be spectacular if Robinson returns."
"Do I hope the future is bright? Hell to the yeah."
It's funny how when certain people disagree with others' (valid, fact based) opinions they resort to character assassination. I guess that's pretty much what this country has become. It would be lazy, and quite frankly easy to return the favor, but I won't stoop to your level.
The reservations I have in both football and basketball are rooted in the lack of track record for these coaches. Part of the reason our defense in basketball is lacking is the amount of energy you have to exert to play successful defense is much greater than successful offense. When you've got 3 guys that regularly play 38+ minutes, it's a lot to ask. Hence why I keep turning the conversation back to having 5 regular contributors (6 if you want to include Hawkins); only 4 of whom are pretty much guaranteed to return.
Am I not allowed to have a reality-based opinion while still being optimistic about the future?
Thomas we may have the 10th best recruiting class now but I guarantee Tabbs gets a bump in his rating when it’s all said and done. The kid is much better than his stars would have you think. Additionally, BC got competitive by recruiting under the radar guys. That’s going way back not just recently. If you sprinkle in some McDonald’s all Americans, we can only get better
What did I say bitches. Nineteen wins.
Suck-cess Atlanta booze boy
Another nonsensical comment from Mod. Loser.
Nineteen wins for the teasing Eagles.
NIT Final Four here we come.
Actually changing that to final 8.
Thanks bitch. You’re crushing it.
Thank you for updating!
