Revisit BC's upset of Notre Dame in 2002

I know most people don't pay attention to this but for a long time NBC and Notre Dame made most of the old Irish home games available online. But some of the BC upsets including 1993, 2002 and 2004 were not online. Now BC has put up highlights from the 2002 game up on Youtube (see below). For those who forgot or weren't around, Notre Dame entered the game undefeated, Ty Willingham had yet to lose in South Bend and they broke out their special green jerseys. We know how it ended.

There are a few things to note in the clip. The BC crowd is full and loud at the game. For a variety of reasons, this game doesn't carry the same weight with our fans any more. The highlight also excludes Spaz's admonishment to the D (that went viral at the time) about staying focused. It also is a look back at the maroon pants. I would like to see those added back to our rotation and get rid of the all-white road uniforms.

Great energy and aggressiveness...miss it. Hopefully will see it this fall. The pants? More maroon, less red, although it was bright out!

Nice memory - heck of a game by the defense - especially Josh Ott and Ralph Parent. Derrick Knight was a very good (somewhat unheralded) running back on that team. And sticking it to them with their arrogant green jerseys made it even sweeter! We could have been wearing pink pants and tutus for all I care with that performance!

There is a nice media interview of Harold Landry on line at the NFL combine. He is really humble and gives all kinds of credit to Paul Pasqualoni. He says that he made him into "a student of the game" and was responsible for his development. His success on Saturday is attributed to the preparation that he received during the week. It is only about two minutes in length and Landry states that he is the "best pass rusher in the draft" and that is probably so. Best wishes to Harold.

I was sitting in the end zone where Josh Ott scored after his interception. When the game was about to start the ND fans around me loudly talked about how the green uniforms would spell doom for the BC team. After all they never lose when the green uniforms are broken out. As Ott entered the end zone the silence of the ND fans around me was deafening. My son and myself on the other hand were yelling and screaming as loud as we could. Plenty of nasty comments and not so polite recognition of what was at that time a big BC win. Go Eagles, perhaps another win like that will happen again.

While we were walking out of the stadium at least 3 people asked us if we wanted job applications. Even in the moment of the upset, they still tried to act better. Of course, no offense, but I would never want to live or work in the South Bend area. There's a reason why ND alum are so spread out across the country.......

I was a senior at BC living in the mods and took a van out for the 16 hour drive. Memories that will last my entire life. We had the time of our lives, met incredible people and told great stories. To see my classmate, Josh Ott, return that TD was absolutely incredible. He's a heck of a guy too.

I can't remember much of the actual game so seeing this highlight gave me the chills. Remember being there, as a 21 year-old kid, and trying to take the whole experience in.

Now that my dad is retired he's always wanted to go to Notre Dame. I'm hoping to do that with him next season.
