Lax completes undefeated regular season

Congratulations to the Lacrosse team for completing an undefeated regular season. They did so in dramatics fashion (see tweet below) as Sam Apuzzo won the game with just 1.7 second left.

BC enters next week's ACC Tournament as the top seed. Let's keep it going.

(Despite the Women's success, don't expect a scholarship DI Men's program any time soon.)

When is the last time BC won an ACC championship (regular season or postseason) in any sport? I know the men’s soccer team won the ACC title in 2007. Anything since then?

Xavier in a climate similar to Boston competes very well in baseball. College baseball in
many areas of country extremely popular. CRAZY idea to dump baseball!!!!!!!!!
Tough series with ND hope Allyson and Jessica are ready with two gems.

I don't understand why BC is uninterested in a D1 men's lacrosse program. Massachusetts and the greater Northeast region has an excellent lacrosse presence. BC is also a rather preppy school, so lacrosse would be a good culture fit. I understand the title IX implications, but BC currently offers the most sports in the ACC. Surely we could trim the fat somewhere to bring in a much needed and highly requested men's lacrosse team.

Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in America. Seems silly for BC to be behind the 8 ball here.

But I do not mean to take anything away from the women's team. I don't watch many women's sports, but this team is fun to watch! They play an exciting brand of lacrosse and are very well coached. Congrats to the ladies on an incredible season and hope they can get their revenge this year!

No one will admit that this is all due to titleIX

Mod you like Female lacrosse. Probably had your iPhone 4 cranked up taping the nail biter yesterday with those big headphones on so you could listen to the radio play by play.

Working rich. What's the fault of Title IX? That women who represent 53% of the student body at BC are given opportunities beyond Home Economics? Check the calendar, it's 2018. Most men's varsity sports don't generate income for the school or have a meaningful fan base, should those all be abolished?

Soccer was supposed to take over soon. Not going to happen nor is anything else.

HUGE shout out to womens lacrosse!!! Awesome work and best of luck in the postseason!

Great job players, coaches, and staff.

Way to raise to set the bar higher.

The NCAA limit men's lacrosse to 12.6 scholarships at a given time. If BC added the sport, Title IX would require another 12.6 scholarships to women athletes. That's 25.2 scholarships at nearly $70,000 next year to attend BC. Ballpark, that's $1.75 million. Then, you hire coaches and pay them competitively and incur substantial travel expenses. There would be very little revenue to offset those expenses.

Is it worth it? Maybe. But you at least have to look at the costs involved first.

All that said, best of luck to the women's team!

bceagle91....a scholarship is not an expense...its lost revenue. If you give 12 scholarships, you add 12 non-scholarship students to the class and it costs essentially nothing. So that $1.75 million is b.s. I am not saying this to argue for or against lax, but just correcting the misnomer that a scholarship is a real expense to the school.

The other 12 will be getting "academic/need based" financial support. Since the point is to be realistic. So the 1.75 is like .9. Point is still the point.

Lost revenue is an opportunity cost. Knucklehead is right about netting out the effects of financial aid (need-based). I'm not sure half of the cost is right since we do have many full-pay students, but his point is still a valid one.

In 1997-98 when M Lax hit the chopping block, $1.75M would have been a huge deal. Every mens sport (outside football, MBB, hockey) lost scholarships. Half our teams were practicing at other (smaller) school's facilities, limiting ourselves to regional competition. It was a mess, and the bad pub from the gambling scandal made it hard to raise funds.

My wife's school just went through some AD razing... almost killed 6 core sports so they could bring in, I shit you not, beach volleyball and ultimate frisbee. Her sports were on the chopping block, so we looked into it, and the chancellor was adamant all these cuts (both men and womens) would be necessary unless somebody could raise $250k. I laughed so hard... that's like funding dust in modern college athletics. It was raised in like 14 days. $1.75M would be like $5M in today's dollars.

Still, almost every other school has M Lax... shocking they haven't balanced the scales there. Title IX isn't holding anyone back these days.
