Women's Lacrosse start season as No. 1

Expectations are high for BC Women's Lacrosse after two straight trips (and losses) in the National Championship Game. This year they start as No. 1 in the USA Lacrosse Top 20. Let's hope they finish the season as the best team.

The ranking is an accomplishment and a sign of respect for what the program has become. For all those who want a Men's team, keep cheering on the Women. Their continued excellence is the best argument for sports expansion at BC.

Future looks bright for Women's Lacrosse

I don't know much about Lacrosse nor Women's Lacrosse. But any sports fan could watch Sunday's National Championship and see how well coached BC's team is. They lost the Championship game, but as they have all season, they overcame deficits, adjusted tactics and played their hearts out until the last whistle.

It was a tough loss, but not one that left a permanent sting. I am more convinced than ever that BC's time is coming and when Walker-Weinstein's crew breaks through, they will win multiple National Championships.

Congrats to the team for a great season. You represented BC and each other very well.

BC headed to National Championship game after knocking off Terps

The Boston College Women's Lacrosse team is one step closer to a National Championship after beating No. 1 Maryland Friday night. BC started a little slow and trailed during the first half. However, Sam Apuzzo got hot and lead the scoring charge in the second half. BC takes on James Madison Sunday for a chance at the school's first national championship in an ACC sport (sailing and hockey don't apply).

Women's Lax wins thriller to advance to Final Four

Watch the video below. That was during the second OT as BC closed out Stony Brook in a back and forth thriller Saturday. BC will now get a shot at Maryland, the team that ended BC's season last year just short of a championship.

Lacrosse loses ACC Championship to UNC

The Women's Lacrosse team is no longer undefeated. They're also not ACC Champs, as the team lost a tough game against North Carolina in the conference finals.

While not winning the ACC is disappointing, the main goal still exists -- an NCAA Championship. They've proven throughout the year that they are a championship caliber team. Now they just need to prove it.

Lax completes undefeated regular season

Congratulations to the Lacrosse team for completing an undefeated regular season. They did so in dramatics fashion (see tweet below) as Sam Apuzzo won the game with just 1.7 second left.

BC enters next week's ACC Tournament as the top seed. Let's keep it going.

(Despite the Women's success, don't expect a scholarship DI Men's program any time soon.)

Lax falls in Championship game to Maryland

A great run came up short as the Women's Lacrosse team lost to Maryland in the National Championship game. The first half was a great performance. BC fell behind early, then rallied to tie the game and stifled Maryland's offense. The second half was more of a struggle as the Terps would get a lead, BC would cut into it and then Maryland would build a lead again. In the end there wasn't enough time for another comeback.

While it is disappointing to come this far and not win, this game and run was a program builder. BC can now sell this success to more elite recruits. I think there are many Lax titles in the school's futures.

Lax headed to Final Four

Big congrats to the Lacrosse team. They are headed to the Final Four after knocking off USC 20-14. BC established the lead with a strong defensive performance in the first half. The second half was more back and forth, but BC did enough to hold off the Trojans.

BC has a bit of a home field advantage in the semis, as the Final Four is being held at Gillette. They face Navy for a chance to get to the Championship game. As the saying goes, "you gotta take 'em one step at a time..." but this is a huge opportunity for BC sports. Winning a national championship in a growing sport like Lacrosse would be a great moment for the school and athletic department. Lacrosse is one of those sports that is huge in traditional ACC county AND New England. It is the type of sport where our conference and geography come together and can support a champion. Let's see the women keep going!

Women's Lax advance to Elite Eight

The BC Women got their first win over Syracuse Lacrosse at just the right time. The Eagles upset the Orange in the NCAA Tournament Sunday to advance to the Elite Eight.

Because of the upset, BC will now host its next tourney game against USC. Congrats to the team and keep it going to the next round.

Baseball sweeps GT and other links

Baseball completed its sweep of Georgia Tech. They are riding a huge wave of momentum into their Beanpot game with UMass. Softball won their series with Georgia Tech too.

The Notre Dame game at Fenway will kick off at 7:30. With the weather and home aspect of the game, I think that helps BC.

Lacrosse improved to 14-2 with their win over UNH.

A Patriots blogger broke down Andy Gallik as a prospect and potential draft pick for New England.

Quigley sells to Vick and other links

Former Eagle Ryan Quigley made headlines for the right reasons when he sold his jersey number to Michael Vick. Quigley is donating Vick's payment to a South Carolina charity that helps troubled teens.

Rutgers brought more embarrassment upon themselves and the Big Ten this week. The Big Lead wondered if we were one of the schools the Big Ten should have selected in the past.

Once again BC teams performed very well on the APR.

Some Lacrosse experts think BC is most likely to get upset in the opening of the NCAA Tournament. Our draw involves three conference champions.
