Checking in on Bowl projections

With the win, BC is one step closer to another bowl game. But where will we go? Here is what the experts are saying:

CBS -- The Sun Bowl vs Stanford.
In my opinion, this would be a pretty good solution. A lower tier, yet respectable bowl plus an interesting opponent.

SB Nation -- Military Bowl vs Cincinnati
This is not exciting, but it is very plausible. The only upside is that BC fans could go to the game.

ESPN -- The Sun Bowl vs either USC or Utah
I am glad to see the consensus around the Sun Bowl. Like last year with the Pinstripe, it probably means the Bowl, BC and the ACC are already talking it through.

I think that you wait to see what they do against Miami. If they lose to Miami, they could lose out. If they beat Miami, then "sugar plum fairies" will be dancing all over the place.

Much too early to talk about ACC bowls.

Atlantic Division is the goal.

ACCCG is the goal.

If not, we don't belong in the league, even if those are stretch goals.

Go BC - prepare for and beat Miami.

JBQ/John, you both nailed it. Premature to discuss bowls. This team has the potential to go 8-4 or easily fall on their faces and end up 5-7.

If Dillon comes back healthy team has too much talent to lose out.

Miami, FSU and Cuse should all be wins and anticipate BC being favored in all 3, maybe slight dog to Miami.

Sun Bowl would be great, CBS telecast only bowl game at that time. Long way to go till then.

Bye week comes at perfect time, get Dillon healthy and clean up the mistakes. Should be fun last half of year. It’s why being in ACC is fun, Miami, VT, Clemson and FSU all in a row. Great stuff

Shabby, you are way too partisan. Except for Allen, there is little to no tallent on defense. Worse, you totally ignore the Dazoshit factor. You are too optimistic.

Every year the Sun Bowl appears in the bowl projections. Every season they take a team that fits them better from a regional perspective. Drop the Sun Bowl talk it makes no sense and there is no track record.

Let's focus on Miami.

Knucklehead said...

Team is as good using Glines and Baily as they are using Dillon.

Like I said over the summer. Dillon need his carries capped at 30 max. The other backs too good to be wasted.

No depth but Allen is first round pick and Cheevers may be next year. Denis Harris and Ray will all get drafted, that’s 5. Allen & Cheevers made pro football focus mid season All American team which is best site to evaluate true performance. Only 2 ACC players on list. Don’t tell me there is no talent
Also interesting N.C. State had 2 OL on offensive team, maybe them running ball down our throats wasn’t as bad as we thought

I think I am realistic, Miami is no better then we are and the game is at home in the cold. We should win, BC beat FSU by 30 last year and FSU is much worse this year, we should win 1 away game and that is it. Cuse is like us but at home so we should win.

Daz limits us vs VT on road and home vs Clemson, I agree, but the other 3 BC should just win like they did vs Wake & Ville. That gets us to 8.

For future NFL dradt picks, the opposition runs and passes through them like crap thr goose.

Draft

LB's suck. Really bad. We should be playing another corner and one less LB. Or one more LB and one less DL.

Too much zone. Don Brown aggressiveness has been washed out.

We recruited several LB's recently from NJ and Indianapolis(Kiwanukas HS if I recall) not sure where they are now? Betzler had another good game. Strachan and Richardson are both tough and slow. One should be on the field and the other off when playing three LB's. If you play 4 LB could put both on the middle to support/relieve Ray Smith.

Need to use their fucking heads on defense and not do the same bend break bullshit.

Take a risk early in a drive to stop the opposing offense instead of letting them get momentum. Stupid.

Flores defense last night looked right out of the typical BC playbook.

The Sun Bowl is a great fit for BC if it happens. The local fans turn out in huge numbers for the game, so there's much less concern about traveling numbers. (That's partly why the bowl was willing to align itself with the ACC, as El Paso is a LONG way away from every ACC school.)

That said, I agree with BJK. All goals are still on the table, at least theoretically. This is Daz's best team and the guy is in his sixth season. Nobody should be comfortable at this point just hoping for the Sun Bowl.

Before my great friends mod and GE rail me for being a “soft PC millennial”, I’m not satisfied with Daz or how this season has turned out so far. But given our recent history of losing, when was the last time we saw BC at 5-2 at this point in the season? No doubt reality is going to hit us hard in the coming weeks, but for now I’m going to enjoy this record while it lasts!

P.S. @mod, you can include adding salted pretzels to Jarmond’s long list of accomplishments ;)

Knucklehead said...

They ain't turning out for BC. Missed the entire point.

TCinDC said...

Hey Hey. Wait a minute. Clemson loses once and then to us, and we run the table, we are going to the ACC Championship, and to paraphrase Leo Farnsworth (trivia), I think we gonna win.

BCEagles2014 said...

To Unknown’s point, the best case scenario for us is if Clemson narrowly beats NC state. The benefits would be twofold: 1) it legitimizes NC State as a good team and makes our narrow loss to them look better and 2) we can catch Clemson sleeping.

I think the worst thing that could happen to BC was Miami losing to Virginia. They’ll be coming off their bye week as well when they play us and they will no doubt want to make a statement to get back into the rankings. I don’t disagree that Miami isn’t the world beater we’ve come to expect of them, but they are still talented. A win over Miami on a primetime Friday night game may get us ranked again or at least back into the “others receiving votes” category. At the very least we roll into that game at 6-2 with a ton of confidence and ready to take on Clemson for the Atlantic Division.

BC hasn't gone to the Sun Bowl because the Eagles haven't been good enough. The Sun gets a fairly high slot in the bowl selection process and has gone with at least an eight-win ACC team every season since 2013, and BC hasn't hit the eight-win mark since 2009. The Sun Bowl director said he thought BC would be a draw in El Paso due to the area's large Catholic population, and of course even if they weren't the bowl sells out annually regardless of the teams selected. BC just needs to win more games if they want to play in the Sun Bowl.

All that said, I would fire Daz even if he gets this team to eight wins and the Sun Bowl.

bceagle91 said...

Downtown, 8 wins and a Sun Bowl berth would be the high water mark of the Daz error - I mean era. I can't imagine he'd be fired after having his best year here. My guess is he stays if he goes 7-6 yet another time. 6-7 and it's 50/50.

Knucklehead said...

So CBS and ESPN think we are getting 8 wins.
