Moore serves as a reminder

Many times I have used this blog to promote BC athletes as special. In the vast majority of cases, I don't know the player. I am just attributing virtue and uniqueness based purely on what we see in public and based on my love for the school they represent. And while many of these athletes have been special, it is foolish not to remember that they are all human and some of them do terrible things.

I don't know Kam Moore and understand that he deserves his day in court, but this arrest is bad. I don't know if there is a good resolution for this sort of thing other than everyone heal and get better, and for it to never happen again. Football really isn't important when things get to this stage.

BC players are flawed. Deep down I know that. What I do hope is that BC continues to try to create a special culture. I also hope that the BC football community (coaches and players) reach out to Kam and try to get him and his alleged victim some help.

Saints draft Moore

Kamrin Moore joined a growing list of BC Defensive Backs in the NFL by getting drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the sixth round. This is great news for him as the Saints have been one of the better teams when it comes to incorporating and playing their draft picks. Moore will get a shot right away.

Congrats to Kamrin and good luck as a pro.

What the pundits are saying about Kamrin Moore

Kam Moore had a great season. He has great game tape. He earned a Senior Bowl invite. However, his shoulder injury remains his big question mark heading into the Draft. It impacted his workouts and his drills at the Combine.

247 reminds everyone how well he graded out but thinks he could go undrafted.

NFL Next sees him as a 4th rounder, but does have concern about his physicality in man coverage.

The NFL's site sees him as a 6th or 7th rounder.

Senior Bowl invites reinforce BC's talent niche

Isaac Yiadom was added to the Senior Bowl, joining fellow corner Kamrin Moore. As BCI noted, the only other school with two corners at the Senior Bowl will be Alabama. However, Moore and Yiadom had very different paths than their Alabama counterparts.

Yiadom earned three stars from Rivals, but his only other offers were from UConn, Bryant and Holy Cross.

Moore was considered a two star prospect and had no other offers. (In fairness, he did commit early, but no other school throwing offers at him was a sign he wasn't considered a top-level prospect.)

Both players deserve credit for developing beyond anyone's expectations. They've been pretty good from Day 1 and both played very early in their careers. Don Brown also deserves some credit since both were recruited by him out of his familiar stomping grounds (Central Mass and Maryland). But Brown has been gone for two years. Addazio and his current defensive staff deserve credit for their development and success too.

Outliers in the recruiting star system have been used as a crutch around BC by coaches who weren't putting effort into recruiting. We all know that BC has won without stars. But that doesn't happen without effort and a plan. Addazio may be overmatched in some areas of program building but I think he has a good feel for talent identification and development. Obviously you go for obvious stars and people who have an affinity to your message. But you also need pockets where no one else is looking, know those pockets well, and turn those kids into stars. It happened with Yiadom and Moore. Now let's hope it keeps happening this recruiting cycle.

Moore, Baker named Captains

On Friday, BC announced that the team elected Kam Moore and Jon Baker as Captains for the upcoming season. I always like when the team elects the Captain, as it shows who they view as leaders and who they expect to have a big season. Both Baker and Moore are critical to the upcoming year, so I hope this is a good sign. Congratulations to both on the honor and I hope they both serve BC well.

Walking wounded

Every year I predict one or two of our opponents will be checked out by November. Coaches lose the team. Coaches are lame ducks. Or the team faces so much adversity and losing, the whole squad throws in the towel by the last game. I fear that might happen to BC this year. Even if Addazio doesn't lose the locker room, the injuries are piling up to the point where we are really limited in what we can do.

Addazio was clear on some injuries Monday and more vague on others. Kam Moore is done for the season with a broken leg. This is a true loss because he was playing so well. McClary was decent last week, but had issues earlier in the season. He won't be as good as Moore, but hopefully he can make a few big plays.

Jeff Smith is a huge question mark. Even if he passes all concussion protocols by Saturday, we know he is not taking snaps in practice. Can Flutie be effective enough to score against VT? And worse, what happens if Flutie goes down? Walk-on John Fadule. That doesn't inspire much confidence. I would suggest running the ball a lot but none of the tailbacks are healthy. Richard Wilson will probably get carries because he's the only one fresh.

Throwing the ball 30+ times with Flutie seems like a disaster, but WR is one of the only areas where we are healthy. And this Offensive Line isn't going to open up big holes for Wilson and whoever else might get carries.

Fortunately the Defense is great and the Special Teams are improved.

This season exposed many of Addazio's issues and challenges. But maybe it can also expose some of his redeeming qualities. Maybe he can rally the team down the stretch. Maybe he can win a game with smoke and mirrors.

Moore commits

The relentless recruiting continues as Virginia athlete Kamrin Moore verbaled to BC. He is expected to be a DB at BC. Moore has not been heavily recruited but shined at BC's most recent camp. Welcome aboard.
